People lived shorter lives, had less food, and harder work.
Fuck no, the present is better by a lot.
Because we are lazy arse now. We would probably be like the fatties in wall-E 200 years later.
Nostalgia goggles...
Everyone seems to have them. Granted this is probably the worst shape the country has been in since the 30s.
So I guess any memory of the past at this point is better.
Guess I'm kinda leaving the whole Vietnam ordeal out as well as Jimmy Carter... But oh well.
1940's- Threat of Axis/Soviet Bombing
1950's- No real fear of anything, except those godless communists!
1960's- scared shitless.
You're wrong. There was a very real fear of nuclear warfare, as well as communists. You may also like to remember that women were very much oppressed around that time. It was only great to be alive if you were an upper middle-class white male. The 1950's was a time of great civil unrest.
Things only seem better back then because we were younger and more innocent. We did not understand all the issues, even if someone explain it to us.
I want the 90's.
Everything seems to be easier back in the day. I personally wouldn't mind living in the 20's, 30's, or the 40's. Fighting a war and living in a depression doesn't sound all that bad when you put it in perspective.
today's heavy metal.
I agree with that, the exceptions being Megadeth and Iron Maiden.
But yes, I think the past was better, in general.
I want the 90's.
Atari FTW!
Of course the past was better, the present's a pile of shit.
At least back in the 50's and sixties crime was classy.
That's just the crime they show in movies...
That's just the crime they show in movies...
What bout Al Capone?
Well, people tend to remember past as good times and focus on today's problems.
Also; Al Capone was classy, but he got caught. The police couldn't accuse him of racketeering because of lack of evidence, but he got jailed for income-tax evasion.
I actually prefer the 90s, but that's probably because I lived around that area of time. Any time where rap wasn't the majority of uncreative bullshit is a great time.

The past isn't a utopia, it seems better because no one ever talks about the bad things that happened to them. It's always the best, giving the impression that everything was always that way back then. But it's not.
In the past, the future would be an utopia.
Now it's the other way around.
Only the immediate past was better as far as I give a shit. By that I mean last year.
Quiet you! You are older than me. You make me sad. :(
stop making singapore look bad
although I think i've done plenty to do so already :buddy:
The past was only good for cartoons and the gaming community, compared to the shit we have today.
Nothing ever changes you moan about violence now but that happened in the past too, less generalised media reporting it. Our perception of society has changed but things are the same.
My grandma always used to say past is better you know how I replied? Maybe it was but at least we didn't have Hitler.
Almost all of the good memories I have are from when I was younger. When games came out, I played them for a much longer time because the internet wasen't as big and it wasen't as easy to find guides for games - therefore making them much more longer and fun. But now it seems that as games come out they become more unoriginal and less fun. Back then not everything had been done already so when something came out it was like "wow, how did they think of this?!", where now it's like "oh they already did that in <game>". In short, video games were much more fun to me, and since games are most of my life, then yes, the past (for me) is much better than the present.
Live in the 80's grunge/metal scene.

After 6,000 posts, however, you have successfully proven that practice does not make perfect.
The soda had sugar in it, and it actually tasted good.
And music in the past seems better than today. Or I just prefer those 40s/70s songs compared to today's heavy metal.
I agree.
I hate Heavy Metal shit I keep hearing on the street or friends house.

And Energy Drinks are loaded to the brim with sugar. I wouldn't mind it if it didn't make most of them taste like garbage.

Guess what? I'm an upper-middle class white male, also, consider the fact I would be ignorant on a lot of the civil rights issues in the 1950's, so I wouldn't really know they existed.

hey that's pretty honest
There is no past. There is only what you remember.
Am I the only one who find the past better than the present? Today, you see ugly gangsters with tattoos everywhere, but in the past you had fine gentlemen who wear suits.
And hearing from those past stories my dad or grandparents told me seems to make me think that the past is better.
And because people last time had to do more work because they lacked in technology, unlike today, we are just lazy arse sitting on our coms looking at facepunch and pressing F5 constantly.(admit it, you are one of them.)
And music in the past seems better than today. Or I just prefer those 40s/70s songs compared to today's heavy metal.
Anyone else had this feeling?
Even the ganster punk ass guys wore suits in the '30s.
I don't agree with you about music, I'm more into '70s - '90s. Music this decade has been utter shit however. Look at the fashion is spawned. You can be a ghetto thug driving around in your ricer, or your parents' expensive vehicle, or you can be a ghetto thug diva like Fergie or some shit. Then there's the "emo" look. What. the. fuck. I thought my dad's jeans, which are just regular jeans, were tight. Spandex isn't made from denim, kids.
