No electricity on thanksgiving. Awesome. Our local utility company is so badly run and they fucking suck ass, they haven't learned their lesson after the huge ice storm several years ago or the snow storms that raped us last year. This is fucking stupid and I'm pissed.
If you want to get something cheap but quite good at the same time i suggest a zalman mic. It's like 9$ on amazon.
Thanks for the information. Gonna look into this one.
If you're desperate you can use headphones as a mic.
What do you mean by using the headphones as a microphone?
Thanks for the information. Gonna look into this one. What do you mean by using the headphones as a microphone?
You can plug a pair of headphones into the mic port and speak into them. A (cheap) microphone and a pair of (cheap) headphones operate on pretty much the same principles, only backwards. The headphones will make a HORRIBLE microphone but it's workable if you need to make a skype call, for example. Best is to just use the webcam mic if you've got one, it's way higher quality.
They don't sound that bad, you can easily make out voice for games, skype, etc.
Girlfriend and I put the money together to pre-order my best friend Evolve for his birthday. His birthday is next Tuesday but we're both so fucking excited to give it to him, it'll be awesome to see the look on his face when he gets it fdjghkfdgkdfgh
I had no idea you could talk into headphones or webcams. Interesting. Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for the information. Gonna look into this one.
I really suggest you get it if you can, it's cheap and efficient.
but webcam mics sound like shit thou
It is. Most of the times, mics integrated in webcams suck ass.
Nothing like a bunch of really shitty circumstances making you totally broke for xmas Spent all my free cash on a downpayment towards a new car late august, seeing as my old car was getting old and I got a huge surplus of money in. I planned on selling my old car for $1200-$1500 as my new foundation of cash to comfortably float me through the rest of the year. Except, my dad really wanted the car for our little sister - he said he didn't have $1500 for it but would pay me $100/mo (basically the cost of my car payment) until his tax return came in next year then would buy it off me. Sounded good to me, get to help out my dad at the same time, even though I'd be financially on an edge. A month later, the clutch blows in my new car. A MAJOR repair that I frankly don't have the money for. I'm super lucky I made friends with mechanic people over the summer, because they offered to help as long as I bought the parts. Replaced the clutch, replaced a bunch of other stuff that was bad, still having a bad issue (its a long story) but at least its drivable. Total cost on parts/towing/etc is probably near $350-$400... much better than the $1500-$2000 it would have been to do the same amount of work at an actual shop, but super sucks that a new really weird "THUNK THUNK THUNK" issue happens on my driver side wheel when accelerating from a stop at low RPM's.
I have to admit when i saw you post when you got the car....i was waiting for something exactly like this to happen. You bought that bmw right? [editline]27th November 2014[/editline] But on the topic on things breaking, a few things are breaking in my house right now. Dad called me up to look at his home theatre system, the receiver was acting up. I disassembled it and found roughly the cause, the power board/pcb. It's fried i think, the capacitors are fine and none are bulged or popped, but the power board is stuck emitting a low whining sound. Like i could fix this, quite easily, by buying a power board but i cant find a site with the model i need as the HTS im fixing is 9 years old. I could just buy a receiver and gut the pcb out of that, at least that way i dont have to resolder capacitors but it'll cost me like 50 bucks. I think im just going to buy a new one for my dad for christmas. I need a gift for him anyway after picking up a ducky Mech board with my siblings to give to my mother.
wats up ive not posted in this thread (or series of threads) in like... 2 or 3 years some people i recognise are still here, I see u all
Oh hey.
I'm conflicted if I should just buy a Blue desktop mic or a Razer headset (like the Tiamat or Kraken). My audio primarily comes out of me 5.1, although usually I have TS/Vent/Mumble come out of a headset.
I'm conflicted if I should just buy a Blue desktop mic or a Razer headset (like the Tiamat or Kraken).
I suggest buying normal pair od headphones and table/clip mic. Even the shittiest mic for like a buck will last long and doesn't sounds all that bad. Depends on you though.
I managed to pick up a headset for £17 and the headset on it is beautiful, been using it for casting dota games

A good headset with a decent mic would be a Plantronics GameCom 388 or 788.
What's the difference between the 388 and the 788?
788 has surround sound, 388 doesn't.
Teamspeak has some funny settings. Try actually turning off Echo cancellation and Echo reduction. Otherwise, they can just adjust your volume personally.
Sennheiser have done some decent headsets, but they're quite pricey.
Sennheiser have done some decent headsets, but they're quite pricey.
Sennheiser PC350 Xense, has lasted me years and still kicking hard, decent quality too.
Sennheiser PC350 Xense, has lasted me years and still kicking hard, decent quality too.
I have the PC 136D, and they're pretty good though I did overpay for them. I think Sennheiser have them for about $100US, which is a pretty good price for this headset.
Thanks to Xie I found a good deal on the 780 (Half off on Amazon, currently $39.99)! Used the money I saved to buy the new Civilization and DayZ :D Thanks Xie <3
All these games on sale look mediocre. Any suggestions on what to buy?
I heard Bad Dragon is having a sale.
Good lord do not buy a Razer headset. I've had several over the years and they all broke constantly, and it wasn't until my 3rd pair that i did some research and found out plantronics are infamous for shoddy build quality. I also remember i once made a post on fp showing off how i fixed my 770 before using zipties and a drill bit and i had like over 200 something agrees from other people with a plantronics who had them break exactly the same way several times. The whole thread became a thread for posting pictures of broken gamescom. the gamescom 7xx line specifically is known for how easy they are to break.
I used to have a Plantronics headset and the thing snapped in half because of the shitty plastic they use. Oh and the microphone worked once and then stopped working.
I heard Bad Dragon is having a sale.
they've been since a week ago. [editline]27th November 2014[/editline]
I used to have a Plantronics headset and the thing snapped in half because of the shitty plastic they use. Oh and the microphone worked once and then stopped working.
this is specifically the problem with gamescom, they use very bad quality plastic that snaps with absolute ease, the cords are also known for being easy to accidentally yank out. So if you're sitting down and try to walk away and you give that cord a tug, the whole cord with break. It's happened twice to me personally and once to my friend John who was pissed because he spent his last cash on the headset and it broke within a week.
