Even 5 years after I still have to put cotton swabs under the side of my nails to prevent any more ingrown toe-nails as they never really grown back. All it takes is a good hit on the big toes to kick it back. Sucks and that's one reason as to why I've been wearing steel-toed shoes since 4 years. Good thing though, is I can fix it myself and have been doing so since I got used to the pain of it. Cut, clean, force a cotton swab between the nail edge and skin, let it there till it falls then keep on putting some in places. It lifts the nail and helps it growing up and prevents any sharp edge to cut your skin. Ah the woes of waiting too long before getting it treated. That goes back 6-7 years ago, too. I also haven't posted here in ages. Hi.
