I've heard the Louis CK explanation before and I've gotta disagree with it. I feel as though since he's not gay, he has no right to dictate how a slur against people other than him is used. Just my two cents.

The Louis CK explanation is okay in isolation but you just can't afford to be insensitive when you're talking to someone that might be affected by a word that carries a lot of weight to it.

If you get affected by words it's your problem. The message is the important part. If I make an innuendo and a friend goes "god you're such a faggot" it's not the same as someone saying "fuck you faggot". It's not the word it's the message.

Of course some words can't really be used like that but I don't think fag is one of them. Racial slurs like the n word would be one of those where you can't really say it lightly

I feel the same way with the word "bitch". I just hate the way it sounds and how degrading it is, but when it's used in a 'playful insult' (i.e how my girlfriend uses it), then it's fine.
