We have word that works as punctuation here as well and it's semi-insult. It's something that to English would translate as "dude" but not quite.

It's really fun. I've been getting pretty good at Wii Fit Trainer, myself.
I got a couple pro controllers and am going to give it a shot after work. Didn't get any amiibos though, waiting until I know what characters I like.

Perhaps in your social circles it's fine to use it jokingly like it means nothing, okay? There are people that will use generally racist terms between eachother because they're jokes
But if you're trying to start saying "Oh no it means THIS now" to anyone else but your friends is the most ridiculous stuff ever. What that word means to you and your group of friends has no bearing to its common meaning which is known by everyone else. And in an even worse case scenario, they might not be as fortunate as you in seeing it in quite as funny a way as there certainly are a lot of people in the world that use it as an anti gay insult and you'll run into people who've had to deal with that.
Saying it's not offensive because "we only make it offensive by taking offense to it" is stupid, you could convince yourself that anything is not offensive and take no offense at everything but it doesn't mean every else is going to go that far by any means.
The only time I could ever understand someone being offended by a homosexual calling another person a faggot is if that person was like harassed with that word in highschool all otherinstances just seems really whiney

actually really bored right now, I'm waiting for someone to help me with a problem and I'm also waiting for my friend to finish a project so I could use it to finish mine. You talk about the 'common meaning' and implying that faggot is just a niche thing with groups of friends using it jokingly or with no sexual connotation.
The thing is, that's now a 'common meaning'. Not just where i am but all over the word has largely lost its sexual connotation. Language evolves, and its becoming common place for that word to be used as a general thing, not just gay.
It really is only as offensive as you make it. Bat's right, it's all about message. The word itself changes and can mean many many things, just because there's a common meaning doesn't mean that it overrides the intended meaning, changing it into something it's not.
I personally don't care about the word faggot. I don't find it offensive and have infact ranted in this thread before about how it actively bothers me that people take offense FOR me since i don't take offense. I won't call people faggot randomly either, to random folks just as i wouldn't randomly start dicking around with some passerby. Thats just weird/awkward to do. But to friends, no problem or people im friendly with. I don't perceive it as a problem either. If someone uses the word with mal-intent i honest to god find it fucking hilarious because of how pathetic of an insult it is. Yeah gets the point across someone's trying to piss me off, but you can do a hell of a better job than that, even a child could.
Everyone should just work on stop taking offense to a word, take it out on the intent, not the word because words evolve and the 'common meaning' evolved too.

Words aren't just sounds that are meaningless until they hit an ear, you know. These sounds are made by thinking sentient beings and the fact that you are willing to expend [i]more[/i] effort to defend/use a word that you know will upset other people says a hell of a lot more about you than it does about them.
