I'm in New York now. yaaay :p
Welcome to my state
Current temperature is 47 degrees F
An ice storm is possible in the Adirondacks today.
And now your local on the 8ths
We still have a landline at home. My mum is completely convinced we need to keep it in case of emergency's, since the phone lines don't turn off if the power goes out. We even have a phone that is plugged in and is purely powered by the phone line.
I see no point, as it adds another bill to pay and we have backup batteries to charge our phones and laptops anyway.

I'm in Long Island (though I'll be visiting a friend in Flushing)
I don't know the exact temp but it feels quite nice out

I always have my TV on The Weather Channel. Makes good background noise, and I can keep up with the weather too.
Well since It's been 4 Usefuls for like 2 days now

Removing the landline introduces a lack of redundancy and you're already paying to use it so it's no extra cost to have a phone attached to it, you're renting the line for outbound use. An inactive phone attached to it does nothing as long as you don't use it.
Plus fuck I'd take a landline phone over a mobile any day when in the house, for one they don't drop off signal when you happen to walk past a certain part of the house plus I've got a fucking landline going from our house to my room. :v:

I just realized what a future we're living in right now
You're leveraging atmospheric interference to generate a random number to give away a terrible videogame to someone else potentially on the other side of the world

We have two phone lines going in to the house, one for Internet, back in the day my Mum needed to be able to use the phone and the Internet at the same time, so she paid to get a second one laid to the house. So we are paying double the line rental.
With our mobile signal being full 4G signal inside on our mobile carriers, we don't get dropouts.

The fuck, she not heard of filters or what? We use the same line for both net and phone.

Back in the day of dialup.
Back in the day of dialup.
Filters existed back then silly. :v:

I was under the impression that during a phone call, the line was only able to be used for either the phone or the dialup connection at the same time? Nothing you could do could prevent that.
Oh well, it's not my money that I spent on the line!

They existed but they were like massive bricks and cost a lot. While now some of them are no larger than your thumb and cost less than £1.
Plex is so awesome. Time to get an assload of movies I've missed out on to take advantage of it. Basically just a nice media server with a really slick front end and good meta-data system.
Best part about it though is that you can log into your server from any PC with a web browser or by using your phone/tablet app and then seamlessly watch your media server content from anywhere in the world no matter the file format the base file is in. I've got it set up so my server client is installed on my desktop and I just power on my PC remotely if I want to stream something while I'm out of the house, and then shut my PC off remotely when I'm done. The mobile app works really well with this, and can also act as a remote for the front end if I have my laptop or whatever hooked up to the TV.

Property damage is never funny
Bad decision o'clock, finishing a three day bender in such a way that your comedown comes on Christmas Eve, when you're cooking Christmas Dinner this year
I remember trying the leaked beta (alpha?) before it was released. I thought it was alright at best, so I just ignored the series afterward. I have the Origin bundle one now, but no motivation to download.
I think the biggest turnoff was the pure linearity of it, with the whole "you can go B route instead of A", rather than a (seemingly) open map, where you can just not pay attention to the story and punch Korean soldiers in the face, then throw them to the sharks.
I sometimes find open world games a bit overwhelming - there's so much to do that you can end up forgetting about the narrative
Half Life 2 is super linear but still fun to play

There's only one festive alcohol drink and that's mulled wine. Went down a treat at my Christmas party

But everything in existence belongs to me anyway

That reminds me of a nice recipe for Gløgg I wanted to try.

That actually sounds really nice.
But ain't NOBODY got time for that, we just buy our usual yearly glögg and enjoy Die Hard on Christmas eve.
Sounds like mulled wine.
Mulled wine is the shit.
