i was misdiagnosed with ADD and promptly put on drugs as a kid
ADHD-Inattentive/ADD whatever you want to call the non-hyperactive one seems like it's one of those things that's really difficult to diagnose and not confuse with an excuse.
I know I'm physically fine but I don't know if I my mind is ready yet, it's something I'd love to do and I'd do it in a heartbeat if I thought I felt I was mentally normal. It's stuff like whether or not I'd be able to remember or listen to instructions clearly, get to sleep fast enough for the little time I'd have to sleep and not feel like every day is an eternity if doing a monotonous task or waiting around. I'd also have to explain to my parents why I left university after they paid so much, they think I'm really enjoying it. How's the air force stuff going with you?
You're not alone on that at all dude. Thing is they want you to fuck up. People learn from making mistakes, and they need to get everyone on equal-footing, so they're going to try and get people to make mistakes. Try not to stress about the ifs and the buts, especially about not getting to sleep early enough, that's not going to be a problem at all :v:. About the boredom? My brother straight up said Training was one of the most boring-ass things he's ever had to do. I can't imagine that'd be too different in the RAF either (Hah you've got an entire half-week more of it than we do!). You've got others there with you though and he said you can make friends pretty damn quick because they're all in the same boring-ass boat as you are. And finally the university thing, have you gotten a degree or anything of the like? USAF tends to like throwing bonuses at people with degrees; not to mention officer training if it's substantial enough. As for my current situation; jack shit. I'm in delayed entry until I have a Highschool/Secondary School diploma in my hands. Would be nice to see what my exact job classification will be before that though, we get to list down a minimum of 8 specialities/jobs during enlistment and then they let you brood for a few months before giving you the options. Or just giving you what they're going to have you do. Not exactly sure which way it goes!
Yup. Ask me anything.
Ask me anything?
My state's education/career mindset: "If you didn't pass high school/are trying to get a GED, ur not smart enough for work lol"
Checked out Valkyria Chronicles wow, I can really see why people like this so much.
Are you still in high school then?
Yeah. And I really just want to get the fuck out of here ASAP. Airforce gives me a reason, a means, and money to do so. I just want to not be here with my family anymore, I want to see other stuff and other people.
On topic: I have a massive problem with the kind of authority they use in the military (I used to do cadets and visited a few military bases and saw it first hand). I'm also a pacifist and therefore a conscientious objector kinda. Off topic: I just fainted at the health centre! Watch as a million people who know what they're doing flock to my unconscious body. Then I awake with a handful of jellybeans and a cup of cold water. I want to faint at medical places more often!
ADHD-Inattentive/ADD whatever you want to call the non-hyperactive one seems like it's one of those things that's really difficult to diagnose and not confuse with an excuse.
It's why i thought i might have had it for years. Kept brushing it off as just me trying to think of an excuse. So it wasn't until by the time i was in my senior year of highschool that i really started to realize that if it's a constant thing and i could potentially get help, why not just go to the docs. So like midway through freshmen year at uni i actually went to the doctors, was referred to a specialist, took a test (which seemed kinda bullshit to me tbh). Got results back saying that my results fell strongly into the category of suffers of adult adhd which surprised me as i went in expecting ADD and never thought of myself as a consistently hyper person. Thats when i learned "hyper" didn't really mean bouncing off the walls energy but also explained a few things about me like why i literally have to twitch my fingers at times which astounded me because i just thought that was sort of normal, just a muscle tick. From there i met with the specialist who after talking to me and doing another test said that i was indeed ADHD. I had never gone back to see him since then like a year ago, to be quite honest though i'm not really sure if i want to be put on medication, even i know ADHD is something overly prescribed nowadays because doctors get paid to write prescriptions, and i know that it could help me, but i just don't want medication. I was like this with anti depressants as well.
I love the new nickname my co-workers gave me. ''The walking devil.'' I tend to walk around during my lunch sharing ultra high calorie snacks with people like 5 pound chocolate bars and jars of salted honey nuts :p
I'm also really torn on the military. I like order and structure but I'm ideologically opposed to everything modern militaries stand for
What do you think they stand for?
I'm also really torn on the military. I like order and structure but I'm ideologically opposed to everything modern militaries stand for
It's interesting to consider because on the one hand armed "defence" forces etc. play a very significant role in a lot of countries that are struggling in helping them rebuild after violence or catastrophes. The other hand there is a constant threat of military proliferation as one country needs to be stronger than the next. You can't necessarily say everything modern militaries do are bad really. The ridiculous amount of money spent on what essentially become political tools in the end, the damage people who see combat get mentally and physically, the treatment of those people after the fact, the result of misguided use of those armed forces... There are so many reasons why they aren't at all helpful. That said I'd never tell people to not join the military. I will gladly tell them why I wouldn't join the military in the hope that they understand the reasons. Additionally I just really would never, ever want to kill anyone. Ever. No one deserves to die. I certainly don't want it to be my job to kill them. [editline]24th January 2014[/editline] I'm glad Australia's defence force targets itself more as a peace keeping force. They do good stuff. Doesn't stop politicians sending them to Iraq for imaginary bombs that George Bush told them about. Then subsequently get re-elected for 'handling it so well.'
Roll_Program, have you considered doing a deck, engineering or electrotechnical officer sponsorship with the merchant navy? You can still get applications in now for that. SSTG is based in Glasgow and it's the biggest.
Not a fan of the sea or staying on a boat for long periods. [editline]24th January 2014[/editline] Thanks for the advice though.
I'm also really torn on the military. I like order and structure but I'm ideologically opposed to everything modern militaries stand for
Was there a military at some other time that you don't oppose?
Was there a military at some other time that you don't oppose?
To be honest I think we're taking him a little too literally. Let's just go with "Zeke has an undisclosed, possibly personal and/or moral related issue with militaries"
I dunno if its because the lack of sleep due to a hour long nosebleed or me being light headed but everything I touch at work feels so smooth and time is like, not moving at all and is just away chilling.
