people can bitch all they want about windoge 8 with a touch screen its pretty darn nice
because it was made for touchscreens. W8 isn't that bad, it has some good things to it. It's literally like vista, vista offered some good features but was too bogged down by microsoft's shitty direction that the cons outweighed the pros.
Damn trig...
Trig is probably my favorite math area.. probably because I was taught it alongside physics, so I saw application for it, among other stuff.

I'd imagine with a touchscreen it would be a pretty nice experience, but jesus fuck microsoft why is it fullscreen I have a mouse the buttons don't need to be that fucking BIG

I almost don't want the final update to drop. I have a problem with stories ending, I guess.

I've been using it on my desktop and laptop since release. I've had no real qualms about it so far.
Except the fact that you need to manage wireless networks you aren't connected to through netsh in the command prompt when you used to be able to do it through Network Center. That's the only thing I actually went "really?" about.
So, I've been working at a thrift shop for the last two weeks, and it's surprisingly fun.
Aside the whole "my body's aching, every bone is breaking" part, you get to see a lot of neat stuff while working.
I managed to snag myself a sassy camera.

We also got a newspaper dated back to 1947 when our current king's father died, it's a very huge headline, along with the plane accident back then.

I can't listen to a second of that song without getting flashbacks to soundcloud remixes.

Thrift shops and charities always have neat stuff. I got 2 Super Nintendos and a NES when I was doing work for a charity warehouse because they aren't allowed to sell them but someone donated them.

Yeah there is a ton of stuff that goes in the trash here that is actually super neat.
We sell electronics after we test them here, so most of it goes out into the store.
Also yesterday, two adorable old ladies came out to the loading dock and said "We'd like to give these away" and it was three cardboard boxes FILLED with plushies. :v:
One was a perfectly fine, huge baby seal. Life at the thrift shop is harsh but fair.

I got no interest in the comic, but there's a fuckton of good music with Homestuck attached to it.
I got no interest in the comic, but there's a fuckton of good music with Homestuck attached to it.
I think that's a real shame. As demonstrated by that drama where a lot of the music got removed, being attached to the comic is quite seriously holding them back.
My xbox live ran out. Im going to cry.
Man there's nothing like an incredibly stressful couple of days to get some serious introspection done. My week was occupied by a debate about whether or not to pull the switch on a uni application for engineering, but after some research I realized that first year was going to be incredibly brutal and that I'd most likely burn out before I even got the first term done. Aiming too high has come back to bite me in the ass so many times before.
I figured since I spend most of my free time on the computer anyway, why not do something computer related? Computer science at the school I'd attend seems a lot more flexible in regards to course selection, they even go as far as having some recommendations for people who want a first year with a lighter course load.
Anyone in here a compsci student willing to share what kind of stuff you study? Or better yet, a graduate with some insights into what kind of careers to expect afterwards? I know it's a pretty far cry from engineering but hey, I gotta face that maybe I'm a pretty far cry from an engineer. I can't deny that compsci covers some of my interests, especially artificial intelligence which I find super fascinating.

I'm only in my freshman year right now, but I've been on track for a comp sci degree since I declared it when I first applied for college. What I've been finding out more recently though is that I'm not really sure how much I'll be able to stick with comp sci in the long run. I know I have an interest in business (management, administration, etc) but I've never really gotten my feet wet with it, so my plan right now is to go for the comp sci degree because of its appeal to employers, personal interest, great job market and good pay, while I've also decided to go for a business essentials degree to get my foot in the door with that side of things.
I guess my point is that there's always pro's and con's to every decision you make, especially when it comes to education. My mother graduated with a biology degree and now she's got a great position as a business administrator for a decently sized company, and she enjoys it very much. I've heard what matters in the long run is simply getting things rolling, and then the job market can pick it up from there, i.e. I'll likely obtain my business essentials certificate, and then if I'm able to get a job in business management or something like that, the rest of my education I'd receive from the job itself.
But again, I'm only a freshman, so that's a fair amount of speculation. Take my two cents with a grain of salt.

Comp-sci student here. Civil engineers have to take a programming course, and they're both very involved in math, so I imagine making the switch isn't that difficult.
A lot of students get hired for computer security. Others do their own tech startups, and others go into administration. Job security seems pretty good out here, that'll depend on where your at though.

Yeah for sure, at the very least a year of computer science would get me back into the student mindset and not the "lazy SOB doing menial jobs" mindset, which might result in me able to consider engineering in the future again
and besides, there's no doubt that computer science + electrical engineering is a really appealing combo for employers, a background in both would take you straight to the bank

Computer security and artificial intelligence are the two fields I can see myself really enjoying. Things like web design/straight-up programming don't appeal to me at all.
(also I won't be making the switch at all, this fall would be my first university experience. I'm not currently enrolled in anything and my only experience with post-secondary was a welding course that taught me that I didn't want to weld for a living.)

I guess it's a bit different when you're just trying to get back into a productive mindset as opposed to trying to find your dream job. And don't forget about those internships, too. A degree involving comp sci and electrical engineering plus real-world experience in the field would make employers cream their panties

Hope you have a good one!

I don't know of any drama personally. I just think it's cool that people get creative.
Just finished repainting my armor and repairing it from top to bottom. My colonial marine armor.
All that left is to put some custom artwork and such.
Anyone have good ideas for things to be painted on? Examples: "I'm with Stupid ->", "Contents Under Pressure", "Bug Exterminator".
