Remembering old internet friends
I had a friend on xfire (so this was a very long time ago) and we used to play Halo like every day.
Then one day he went offline as usual and I never saw him again.
His name was (BFB)Cobra or something along those lines, and to this day, I don't know what became of him, as his last activity was 7 years ago according to his profile.
Maybe he died or something
Godspeed wherever you are, Mr Cobra.

Oh man, XFire. So many hours in San Andreas Multiplayer.
In the context of old internet friends; I had one that hadn't been online for around 3 years since meeting on XFire, until a couple of months ago when he popped up online out of nowhere on Steam. Figures!

Sucks when you actually know they're dead.
Had a friend who I used to play TF2 with almost every day, both me and him were pretty hype for MvM, we always talked on Teamspeak, had laughs, talked shit and such.
One day he goes and buys me a Tour of Duty ticket for MvM, tells me he's got one himself and that we'll totally play it tomorrow, and I say yeah sure and I go to bed.
Next day I come on Teamspeak he wasn't there, nor was he online on steam. A week goes by and another guy who was friends with him tells me he killed himself that night.
I still got that ticket.

I only found out after that he actually had economic problems and was super depressed every day, but he never told me any of this and I always thought he was doing fine, since he always seemed so cheerful.

Man, real talk, I feel bad for joking about that now, sorry.
Could be a pretty real possibility for the guy I knew though.
Had no mutual friends with him so I'll probably never know what became of him unless he's still lurking the net and sees this.

Ah dude it's cool! No offence taken, just thought I'd share a story since we were on the subject of people being offline for so long.
Worst i've had is some dude I played tf2 with every now and then. Used vent half the times. 2 years later we weren't playing much anymore together and I notice he hasn't been online for 250 days. I check his profile and then there's people going RIP dude cancer sucks and all sorts of comments on his profiles.
last year he went online and I was like what's going on I thought he died. It was his son. 14 years old. Playing on his dead father's account
I was like dayum :<
I guess the closest I have is the guy I knew who died last year of a brain something or other.
I still have his account added on Xbox Live. I'd feel bad to get rid of it even though I only kind of knew and for a time didn't even like the guy.
I know a few people who are gone. 3 of them were part of a suicide pact or something like that. One of them was my friend. I didn't really know too much about the other two, but I'd talk to them sometimes at lunch. They were always together and would always play Yu-Gi-Oh cards with each other. From talking to my friend from that group, they didn't seem like they were troubled kids. They were nerdy types, but got along with most people, even if a few people bullied them. I didn't find out that they'd all killed themselves until about 2 days after it happened when another acquaintance relayed the information to me. They'd all OD'd on sleep aids in the back of a SUV or something. Dunno where they found the SUV, though.
Worst part is, the school didn't even make mention of this. No announcements, no memorials, no anything.

The thought somewhat scares me honestly, reminds me of another story, friend of mine lost his brother, and apparently his brother was really active on the webs and such so he decided to at least notify everyone online that he has passed.
But what if you just drop dead one day and nobody is there to tell anyone that you've passed (online, that is)?
I mean shit if I die all of a sudden I guess people would pick that up real quick since if I am offline for more than a month then I'm probably pretty dead. :v:
Hence why I am a little curious about a guy on my steam friends who's been offline for more than two years, and his last message was "I got some computer problems".

Well sometimes people just move on to other stuff in life and don't care to tell everyone HEY IM LEAVING BABYE. I know a couple like that
I have this guy who died while sleeping and it has been almost 2 years since his death. Still have him on my steam friends list.
Since everyone brought this, I'll actually bring more info about this.
When there was the thought of that he died, half of my steam friends (who also knew him) were thinking he was actually making a joke and just doing it for attention. That's when the sister comes in, closes, disables everything and then explains what happened, but she didn't explained what was the cause.
That was when everyone thought it was from drug overdose since he was a fairly drug user. Plus he was also gay and had fairly issues with that too (but his mother accepted him as how he was anyway), I should of at least tried to help him on that part, but then again it was all too late.
I knew a pretty cool guy who was on our ventrillo server pretty frequently. Then one time he stopped coming on all together. Then I read on the MSPA forum about a year later that he had died from a seizure. Like how does that even happen? How do you just suddenly one day have a seizure and die?

I don't know how anyone would notify my friends online if I was to suddenly pass one day.
Probably through Facebook or Steam or something.
It's a scary thing to know that despite all of Humanity's accomplishments, a single problem can be what ends us.
This got unintentionally pretty sad :v:

Finally, a proper excuse to not get out of bed.

Apparently a guy a few miles from where I live had his dick cut off and was wandering near a road.
And I thought nothing ever happened here except occasional bouts of nothing, ambulances, and drugs.

"No sorry, I can't come in to work today, I'm gay"
"My apologies for not paying my taxes on time but I'm gay"
"Yes officer I did rob that bank but I'll have you know that I'm gay"
People in this thread are prudish.
I remember there was a girl (or g.i.r.l) I met in World of Warcraft, back before Burning Crusade came out. We had known each other for a while and this'd be right before I quit it, this'd be when I was like 13 or something, but, she had been grinding for a mount for about 3 days, straight, without sleeping.
So, I told her to get to bed. She really wanted that mount, but she agreed if I played with her tomorrow. I agreed, never logged back online. I'm sorry crazy grinding girl! :(
Grinding girl, heheh
