I guess it just boils down to location. Because my story really isn't an outlier because pretty much any of my friends around here can attest to the same thing.
I guess it just boils down to location. Because my story really isn't an outlier because pretty much any of my friends around here can attest to the same thing.
That's still just anecdotal. Hate to be pedantic but just because all your friends have it the same, doesn't mean that's how it is for everyone in the city. The only way you could satisfy my skepticism is a ~properly conducted survey~ But I think everyone else has left the thread, now it's just us two so let's go to visitor messages if you wanna add anything else so we don't spam more than we already have :v:
There arn't many jobs up here in south coast MA. I've had 3 jobs and all of them I got because I knew someone who worked there. Just my 2 cents.
I just came across this, it's literally the most soothing song/video i've watched all year.
I'm posting again because it's important!! (if out of the nlue, but when I have I posted something that wasn't?) Does anyone know a really good but also not overly expensive electric razor? My skin is breaking out from my crap razor blades. I want an electric one but I still want my skin to be as smooth as when I shave with a normal blade though. I'm probably being super optimistic about the possibility for this. Blood is not soothing! :v:

I was bored and looked up how much money I should expect to make as an entry level journalist when I graduate. Really wish I didn't. $20,000-$25,000. I'm gonna be poor.
There arn't many jobs up here in south coast MA. I've had 3 jobs and all of them I got because I knew someone who worked there. Try Best Buy at the Galleria (i know you are from Taunton ;) ). It sucks, I worked there seasonal but its better than nothing right?
Snow on the ground over here. Gonna be a nice time driving this morning while having the summer tires on.
Fuckin' where
Huh? You realize you pay debt off over the period of many months. I'm not entirely sure you understand how student loan debt works. See here: http://www.finaid.org/calculators/scripts/loanpayments.cgi Assume your loan is a subsidized $25K and is at the stafford interest rate of almost 7%, which would pretty much cover almost every single in-state rate at a public college for a four year degree and assumes you get not much in the way of financial aid and scholarships and it also assumes you do not work while you are in school. Once you graduate and start paying this loan, if you go for a 10 year loan period that will be $287/mo. You'd at least need an income of $34K/yr to afford paying the loan without it taking up more than 10% of your total income (AKA at least get paid that much to make the loan affordable to pay off easily). You only need to make $23K/yr to have 15% of your income go to this loan, which is on par with pretty much any job that pays at least $10-$12/hr. If you are only making that much, you might be struggling more financially but its very workable assuming you don't have many other debts/expenses as well. That assuming your loan is on a 10 year term. For a 20 year term its even cheaper per month - you'd pay only $190/mo, which means you'd need to make at least $22K/yr to live comfortably while paying that loan and $16K (which is minimum wage) to struggle more but still live comfortably assuming you don't have many other major payments. You DO pay much more in the long run by doing this option (the shorter your loan the better if you want net-money saved, but the higher the strain will be on you), but you can make less per year and have it be affordable. So you want to be a teacher? You are looking at a starting wage of $36k-46k depending on state, and this improves over time. You'd easily be able to afford a $25K 10 year loan in this case, and this is assuming you don't get financial aid in school, you don't get scholarships, you don't work during school to help pay off some of that loan early when you graduate, and you don't pay off chunks of the loan early at all once you are working in your career of choice. Nobody pays for college out of pocket unless they are doing community college (which you should TOTALLY DO since its stupid cheap and most CC's transfer into year 3 at a full university), have a scholorship or have a family discount with that college.
Sure, but I ain't driving more than 2 hours.
the lot of us should work something out sometimeeeee
25k in debt is like NOTHING when it comes to colleges, that's actually shockingly good for colleges. You could pay off a 25k debt with a slightly above minimum wage job in a few years.
Of course its like nothing for colleges, but fact is if you stay in-state for your education and get in-county or in-state rates for your school that's not really that far off average. My state-owned local university I go to is about $6K/year assuming 15 credit hours or so (enough to graduate at 4 years for most degrees), which is about $22-24K total cost depending on degree program. Going to the university of my city, which is technically a private owned school? Much more expensive, looking into 60-80K. Stay in state, fuck the expensive schools. You don't need it for 90% of degrees and the degrees you do need to go to an expensive school for, are career paths that tend to pay out the ass anyways. I don't understand the obsession with going to out of state universities, or going to private ones. I don't know if anyone got the memo, but degrees aren't worth nearly as much anymore. So don't pay as much for them. When Google doesn't hire people based on if they have a degree or not, you know its dumb to decide to pay $30-50K extra on top of a normal degree cost just to go to a "nice college" out of state or that is private. EDIT: That said, I did look up Penn State (the big state school for Pennsylvania), its much more expensive than my unveristy, likely due to its location and the fact that the state also holds an Ivy League school. Penn State a degree would cost around $50k. For reference, OSU (Ohio State), the big college for my state would cost $40K. The state-funded college in my county is closer to $22-24K (where I go). I'm sure there are other state-funded colleges that are cheaper in Pennsylvania too.. but I could be wrong. [editline]30th April 2014[/editline]
How do american student loans work? Do you have to pay off the debt whilst you're studying?
If you get an unsubsidized private loan, you begin interest the moment the loan period starts If you get a subsidized federal loan, you don't start paying or gaining interest until 6mo after you graduate.
See? All hope is not yet lost Zillamaster55, you'll be a history teacher yet! [editline]30th April 2014[/editline] You can tell I am procrastinating study when I have posted 20 times today. [editline]30th April 2014[/editline] In one thread.
the lot of us should work something out sometimeeeee
Gotta find a place to meet :o
How do american student loans work? Do you have to pay off the debt whilst you're studying?
idk about the US but in Canada you get your assistance for tuition + living expenses, with a percentage of that being non-repayable. (Usually about 40%, the rest is a loan, this varies by province and I'm only referring to Saskatchewan here) During your schooling you don't have to make any payments and interest doesn't accrue. After you finish school interest begins accruing but you can wait 6 months before beginning payments. If you don't make enough money you can apply for lower payments, but if a certain amount of time (I want to say 15 years but don't quote me on that) passes before you pay it off the rest is forgiven. Also, in Saskatchewan you can get up to a $20,000 tax credit if you stay and work in the province.
Well that's depressing. Just heard the nice old lady that worked at the Wendy's on campus died. She was reaaaal nice. :(

So, I was interested in a person a while ago (Late Feburary) and he politely said no and said he had a boyfriend (which he did) and would help me with my troubles. The following day I approached his table with something that I needed help with and he got up and walked away. I didn't know what the hell was up, so I was like "eh he's probably just got to go to another class or something". Then, later that night, he told me to go away, claiming that he never really invited me and said that it was "awkward for all of us". So, I told him I was sorry and etc. and following that, I went into a massive state of depression believing that 90% of the school thinks that I'm a weird sack of shit (do you know how many ignored(not declined) Facebook requests I have? And how many of them are accepting friend requests every day as shown on their activity log?), but since I had my other friends around constantly during school, I couldn't look sad, they were my friends and they were 100% boss ass bitches. But when I got home from school, I'd immediately have a fit and eat food and drink Monster to help me settle down followed by a game or two of League. It helped, but I mean jfc getting home to the thought of so many people ignoring you really sucks. Now, today I decide to pause my Netflix and look at my school's "Crushes" page. It's usually just full of band kids trying to be funny by posting things like "I LIKE THIS GIRL'S ASS HAHA ~drinks protein shake~", but I found out in the sea of trash posts that caught my eye. The post had the same typing style as the guy, and it didn't seem to be written by a girl at all. Okay AND his chats, he called me a cool guy and very funny, and awkward. So I'm almost positive it's him. If it is, I am going to just die and I will buy everyone here a free iPad Mini with Flappy Bird preinstalled. I'll let everyone here know if I find out who it is and I might get banned for being overexcited. And if it's not... fuck.
"Just get a job!" Because that sure is FUCKIN' easy, isn't it!? Especially in Rockford, yeah, okay! I'll just ask the fuckin' job fairy howbout that.
I visited Rockford before, that is, if you're talking about Rockford, IL. It was an alright place.
I dreamed about (and as a result, annihilating) spiders but it was so prominent I forgot the cool bits of the dream. Then Steam decided to not log in to Steam Friends and not tell me so I was wondering why I was offline for a while so that was fun too. Woo, waking up :v:
I'm up earlier than usual. I'm scared.
