The reason I react so poorly to alcohol is because it has absolutely destroyed members of my family. Call it a "bias" or a "predisposition", but I find it hard to see it as a recreational item.
There is such a wide variety of alcoholic beverages to try and taste. So many whom are simply delicious, they all have meals they match perfectly with, either be it wines, beer or spirits.
Cheap beer is most of the time, carbonated piss water, good beer, has way more body, flavor/aroma, the smell and taste of good breweries, beer is hard to beat. The best, is that there are enough variety that you could try a different beer a day, for years. Try new ones, discover amazing products.
It's not because there is "Alcohol" in the name that it is bad and will make you an addict. Getting drunk once in a while doesn't mean you are an alcoholic either. Now if you do it every few days, then you have a problem.
Realistically though most people just smoke during work breaks, while driving and every now and then.
Then you still have a whole unexplored world of tobacco products beyond just salems, marlboros, camels and newports. I say this a lot but i smoke to enjoy it, not for nicotine, i have other things for nicotine fixes. I rotate brands a lot and constantly try out new things and i don't regret it. Even if i wasted money on a whole pack, or in a recent case, 5 ounces of this:

I don't really ever regret smoking any cigarette as it's something new to experience [sp]except for newports, oh my dear sweet christ how do people tolerate newports[/sp]
In the case of Drum, it's not that i don't like it but that it's a very rich and decadent tobacco, burns very well but the blend is just very rich. I couldn't smoke it as my daily cigarette but will often have one after a meal or with certain kinds of coffee because it compliments the taste of the coffee or a large meal.
Even if you just pop out for a smoke break at work, you can still smoke quality tobaccos of various kinds often for even cheaper than large brands with twice the flavor.

also i can't edit my post now -- nothing shows up in the editor.
It's because of the weird apostrophe in Rock Su's post, vbulletin shits out and won't let you edit if you quote anything with it inside

It's a massive bias. That's like saying "my dad was hit by a car so I can't see how anyone would ever want to drive"
oh and if you roll your own the sky is the limit. On my desk alone right now i have 5 different types of cigarette papers. One's flavored, one's a pure hemp paper, ones a typical standard cigarette paper, one's rice paper, and the last one is a different type of hemp paper i've yet to try.
Seriously its like pairing wine and cheese but with even more outlets for subtle differences.

Yeah it's biased man. It's like hating all humans because someone murdered someone you knew.
Drinking is fun when you do it responsibly.

God dammit dog, that's my bed
We judge things via our own experiences and as you can see Zillamaster said "it has absolutely destroyed members of my family", it shouldn't be that hard to know that he has really negative view about alcohol because of that, but of course that doesn't mean all people who drink alcoholic drinks every now and then are bad.
No more soul crushing pain when I go ice skating every week. $179 with free 2 free sharpening and entry to the ice rink, not bad at all.

Nice! I got myself some Jackson skates a while ago. Having solid skates with a fresh blade definitely beats rentals.

Nah he said drinking will immediately lead to abuse most times, which regardless of bias or not is pretty stupid. Sucks when it happens but you'd think if it was the case, bars would burn to the ground every day.

I understand the underlying conditions and can respect them, but from the way i'm reading it, it seems somewhat irrational.

When I drink I get super cuddly and I usually fall asleep.
Edit: Goly shit bat, why did you turn my steam into another language mannnnn.
When i drink i get very social. When i get absolutely drunk, i mean to the point where people will be telling me to stop drinking, i stay at the same level of sociability and happiness. This is something that i've been told countless times by people i'd drink with, not just me trying to corroborate my own indulgence.

But think of the money! One of the big reasons for quitting for me was the fact that the tax in MA for tobacco is astronomical. You end up saving 1~2 grand a year even if you are a social or light smoker.

High end rolling papers will run you like, 2 bucks. and a normal pouch of rolling tobacco will net you 4 bucks. Out of the normal pouch of tobacco you will get about 35 cigarettes easily and most come with their own papers. So for the price of 1 carton of typical generic brand cigarrettes in which you get 20 you'll get almost double that for half the price with significantly better quality. Not to mention you can easily get additive free tobaccos with a lot less hamrful foreign elements in them.
My coffee addiction is more expensive then my smoking habit and i have it down to make a cup of coffee costing me only 31 cents when i make it at home.
Alcohol is really difficult to be anywhere near rational about if you've ever had to deal with alcoholics, or live with alcoholics

My sister is an alcoholic and so was my father. They both get very rude and stupid when they drink. Thankfully my father wised up, cant say the same for my sister.
You're free to dislike alcohol for yourself, as long as you don't go on buggering off people who likes it. If you do so, fuck off.

I have people surrouding me who think that getting drunk is the only thing you should prob. be doing all year long. Fuck this.

my father is an angry alcoholic but i still know how to be rational about drinking and know what the phrase 'drinking responsibly' means.

Very true, I went the hand rolling/machine rolling tube buying route for a while and it was ALOT cheaper, but when it comes to addiction easy availability will always trump cost, at least in my experience. I loved smoking when I could afford to, i really did, it was one of my favorite hobbies, helped me meet so many awesome people that I would have never ended up meeting if I didn't have a cig to bum or a light. But the negatives ended up outweighing all of that, the shortness of breath, always feeling tired, anxiety, stress it all adds up in the end.
Nothing can really beat that feeling though, lighting up a cig first thing in the morning, the head rush or the feeling of when you first light one after promising to never smoke again...that bitter-sweet moment when the cognitive dissonance wins over and you just say "fuck it".
I still smoke every now and then but that's with my BF, usually after very.....intense... moments.
I have tons of alcoholics and drug addicts and just general white trash in my family. Therefore, I don't do any drugs, even if I could. My mom would kick me out the moment I did anything at all.
drinking normally is fine, its just smoking that isnt at all, even if you smoke a cig a day or w/e it still screws up your body a lot
sure its 'your body, your life' all that shit, but I cant respect people who throw their life away for an experience, just like I cant respect most people who are fat as hell, they just throw their lives away.
though to be fair, anything in excess is bad for you.
I've also got a goodly chunk of alcoholics in my family, and grew up around a lot of drunk people, I guess that kinda warped my ability to be rational about it

I've been smoking about a pack a week for over a year now and can still safely say that i'm not addicted like that. I never got any rushes from smoking a cigarette except for maybe the first two times i tried smoking. I don't smoke to get a buzz, i smoke because i enjoy the flavor. If i'm not enjoying a cigarette, even just two puffs in, i snub it or throw it away.
I don't need nicotine buzzes either, i do like them though but in order to get them i need to use dipping tobacco with higher nicotine content. But i can still easily go a week (and have more than once) without smoking despite typically smoking about 6 cigarettes a day. I have to at some times because i won't have extra money to spend for a pack of tobacco.
But i will also completely admit that i'm an outlier in this situation and that the results i get are not even close to typical.
I rarely ever get buzzes from nicotine. I vape e-cigs every once in a while, and i'll have a cigarette with the one friend that really ever offers me one, but that's like maybe once a month, but from here on out I'm probably just going to deny taking one, I just really don't enjoy the taste of cigarettes. Nicotine as a whole just kinda makes me feel sick, when I get a buzz it's a dizzy buzz that makes my everything feel really "unstable". It's pretty nauseating.
Unrelated but,
holy crap.

Video games are fun!
I may or may not want Gold just for the avatar.
I can't get it now though. Is there any kind of way of getting it?
