People hate bronies because about like ~x% of the brony community are weird as shit and they like to tell you that they're weird as shit when nobody really cares. Then people start to hate bronies because said x% of the brony community feel like 90% of the brony community. [editline]39[/editline] And bronies can't redeem themselves because they know they would rightfully get shit from both sides if they say "I'm a brony and I'm not like these guys". My theory anyways
Also, most of the weirdest bronies, like in any other community really, are the loudest ones as well. So you noticed these first and to lot people it probably seems like it's only filled with weirdos. I met lot of bronies, some cooler then others.
It's more like actually 90% because obsessing over a childs cartoon is unhealthy
reall it's this. People who are far too infatuated with a cartoon show. Like yeah you can like the show, no problems there, i've watched a few episodes and i must admit the art style of incredibly clean and the animation is fantastic but the subject matter is very lame and the actual episodes are typically boring in my opinion. It's people getting far too involved with it and making it a lifestyle. A pony avatar can go two ways really, it can just be an innocent avatar of someone from the show.... or it can be a really questionable one containing an 'oc' pony or some weird r34/implied r34.
It's more like actually 90% because obsessing over a childs cartoon is unhealthy
But it's okay to obsess over children's video games?
But it's okay to obsess over children's video games?
Honestly, you do have real point here. I just talked to son of my neighbor yesterday. He asked me if I was playing anything currently and I was like "Nah". Then he told me he plays GTA and that he shot a prostitute in the head with sniper rifle. Slowly, very slowly in my brain popped "He's fucking 7 years old, what in the serious fuck?!"
Who ever calls themselves a brony must be mental. That word is tainted horribly.
Well, it's really easy to get that impression since you were the one who brought it up in the first place, and with the way you were complaining about it.
I speak my mind when discussing something, unless it's really personal for some people then obviously I hold back
I don't understand the hate ponies get. I think the pony avatars in this threads are cute as shit.
It's because mlp is "girly" so all males who like it are "automatically pedophiles". At least, that's how I've seen it rationalized here on fp.
It's more like actually 90% because obsessing over a childs cartoon is unhealthy
I've never understood this argument. What's so bad about liking children's shows? A majority of this forum likes various cartoon series' intended for children.
Who ever calls themselves a brony must be mental. That word is tainted horribly.
As are the words "furry," "trans," and "gay." (User was banned for this post ("I've already told you once to stop instigating this garbage." - Seiteki))
As are the words "furry," "trans," and "gay."
That is why I don't prefer labeling myself as anything, I am a human and that is all.
But it's okay to obsess over children's video games?
No. If someone came up to me enthusing about a new sesame street game at the age of 25 i would question various things about you. A game can be fun, i get that, that doesn't matter but when you start fucking obsessing over it and an anchor point of it all is "it's for kids BUT ADULTS TOO" all you'll do is come across to me as a failed hipster. there's a difference between enjoying something and being obsessed with something. [editline]19th June 2014[/editline]
As are the words "furry," "trans," and "gay."
You're seriously going to start lobbing all of those in now too? This is exactly why i said "this is a question better left unasked"

Is it like "I come home from work every tuesday and watch all the MLP episodes I missed in the past week" or "I own a bodypillow of a horse's ass and various rainbow fleshlights and I watch mlp every tuesday when I come home from work" [editline]19th June 2014[/editline]
As are the words "furry," "trans," and "gay."
Trans and gay are completely different, though.
Furry... I just fucking hate that word to the point of insanity. Just, blegh.

Or hardcore fans of Yu-Gi-Oh cards? Or hell, anybody who is currently excited for most of the new games coming out for WiiU? These are all games directed towards children first, adults second. Just like MLP. Yet when an adult gets hype about them, nobody cares, it's perfectly fine. The MLP show is full of subtle jokes and such aimed toward adults. In my eyes, it's perfectly fine to get hype over what you enjoy. Nobody has any right to tell you what and what not to like based on your gender or age group.
I've never understood this argument. What's so bad about liking children's shows? People do this shit with adventure time even, and while granted from day 1 adventure time was intentionally geared towards teens, i still find even that shit annoying and i've met plenty of others with the same sentiments. Though I do agree it's a bit creepy if you dedicate most of your time to whatever nostalgic thing you did in the past.

If you were absolutely obsessed with pokemon and such as a child and continue to be completely obsessed with it in your 20's i would, once again, start to question where you are heading in life if you spend most of you time on those things. It's great to like them but it's also great and important to balance it with your life. [editline]19th June 2014[/editline]
I find that to be incredibly rare. I don't see 80's versions of ponies all over the web, nor do i ever see brony's discuss 80's mlp. Never have i seen any older MLP anywhere when it came to bronies.
1 tf2 crate says that 95% of people who currently watch MLP never watched the older mlp
This is GAY thread not MLP thread. So hold your horses.
I say, like/obsess over whatever you want. There's no difference in obsessing over what you like and obsessing over what everyone else wants you to like. There is no difference between bronies and football nuts. The only difference is one is "socially acceptable." Honestly, most brony hate is purely bandwagon. People hate bronies because bronies are the popular thing to hate. Before bronies, it was furries.
Like what do you mean by obsession here? I mean whovians and trekkies are stupid too (especially the first because whovian is a retarded term)
Obsessed because they refer to themselves as bronies really. I mean whovians and trekkies are stupid too (especially the first because whovian is a retarded term)
Pretty much any term for masses of people liking something is straight up retarded.
Nothing, but there is a definite difference between liking something and being obsessed with something or for that matter pushing it in other people's faces.
That was aimed more toward Batmoutarde since the way he worded his reply sounded like he automatically equated liking with obsessing, with the 90% comment.
That was aimed more toward Batmoutarde since the way he worded his reply sounded like he automatically equated liking with obsessing, with the 90% comment.
Ah, alright then mate, apologies.
That was aimed more toward Batmoutarde since the way he worded his reply sounded like he automatically equated liking with obsessing, with the 90% comment.
If you're 22, have an avatar of a made-up fan pony, your deviant art is filled with ponies and refer to yourself as a brony, you're obsessed. It's p simple
If you're 22, have an avatar of a made-up fan pony, your deviant art is filled with ponies and refer to yourself as a brony, you're obsessed. It's p simple
So this person is automatically ruining society?
So this person is automatically ruining society?
No it's just strange. It's escapism.
No it's just strange. It's escapism.
Okay? That person is happy doing what they enjoy. Why should anybody give a shit if it's strange?
Okay? That person is happy doing what they enjoy. Why should anybody give a shit if it's strange?
Just because someone is happy doing something doesn't mean I can't give them shit for doing it in public. Go around a mall with a giant pink tutu and a banana suit and people are gonna look at you weird and judge you, doesn't mean you're right because you enjoy it
So this person is automatically ruining society?
it literally is escapism, and not good escapism. People will fall back to hobbies to take the edge of life off and relax. Some people fill holes with these hobbies are get too involved in them and it negatively impacts them. They seek acceptance elsewhere and find it in the form of a child's tv show. Same things goes for a large chunk of furries. Pretty much as long as it does not invade your actual life, or impair you from being a normal functioning adult there isn't a problem. But people will judge you, and people will judge you for anything. If you parade around your obsession and rub it in people faces and get adversity, don't cry about it because at that point you brought it on yourself. Maintain a balance, you can be proud of liking something, but don't rub it in peoples faces and expect everyone to take it no questions asked.
