(powder not the real stuff, oh my god if i could own a proper espresso machine HOLY FUCK). Though i still prefer good roasted coffee black.

I personally know of someone who insisted they hated black coffee because they had it once when they were little, then never tasted it again until i got him to. While he isn't crazy about it, he often takes it black now.

I still don't like coffee. It's tragic, I know. I don't like chocolate either, which might be even more tragic.

according to my mom there was a psychic homosexual who came to my house during a garage sale who said a lot of weird shit (that was also generic) who would not go the fuck away (he was there for the entire garage sale trying to help my parents with it) but he was really friendly. If you have shitty quality coffee you need to pretty much put cream/sugar/salt in it (salt reduces the bitterness), and I still do this. Or if you are having a coffee-like drink such as a frappuchino which is pretty much just a milkshake with coffee added (and still delcious!) But making really good coffee tastes wonderful black. Especially on the lighter roasts. A light roast coffee where the beans are fresh (brewed within 2-3 weeks of the roast date), ground right before you start brewing and using a brew method that won't over-extract, under-extract or burn your coffee like most drips will tend to do (I suggest aeropress, french press, pour-over, etc) will taste amazing straight black. Lighter roasts tend to be sweeter, floral and fruitier than darker roasts actually, so they are perfect to have black and if made right won't be over-bitter at all. I personally prefer medium roasts, since the fruity/floral flavors aren't a flavor profile I personally care for in my coffee. I generally avoid darker roasts since they tend to burn/mask the flavor profiles you get out of fresh, good quality coffee. But darker roasts do work better when I am using cream/sugar/etc or if its lower quality.

I hate the taste of coffee, it's so bitter. And when you sweeten it up, it's too sweet and thick.

I still say french press is the way to go though, however i have been meaning to buy an aero press just because you can make damn good at home espresso drinks with them. I do have to disagree with you however, with darker roasts. As i don't see what you mean how they 'mask' the flavor profiles. It leads me to believe you've only experience very bad dark roasts or have only tried dark roasts like french blends which are very smokey in taste and focus on bitter earthy tastes. Dark roasts are what i drink when i want to experience my coffee, i would never touch them with cream as it dilutes them heavily and strips away many of their flavors. Not to mention with dark roasts you can get a hefty dose of the coffee's natural oils which is where the flavor is.

There are people who say they hate coffee but get americanos thinking they're something completely different when they're literally watered down espresso to make it pretty much the same as a cup of coffee but with a more hard hitting robust flavor.
