The word I'd use for it is it has a presence that no other car can quite match, at least in the US. For one thing, it's gigantic compared to almost anything made today. It's usually a few feet longer than anything I park next to, and at least 3 times longer than a Smart(really bad name, IMO) car. Secondly, the Crown Victoria served as the United State's #1 police interceptor since the second generation one came out in 1992, so everyone is a little bit more cautious around it, especially at night when they can't see my license plates. Even though it's a civilian version, many police interceptors were ordered with what's called a Street Appearance Package, or SAP. It gave them civvie wheels and grilles and removed the Police Interceptor badging, so any Crown Vic you see could be a police car. Detectives were most often given SAP interceptors, sometimes even without external radio antenna so there's zero identifying markers, except for the license plates. Thirdly, the way it drives is perfectly tuned to this presence. It's ponderous enough to remind you that it's larger than most anything you'll come across, but not so much that it interrupts the driving experience. The engine is extremely quiet until you put your foot down, then it expresses its displeasure at being awakened from its 75mph nap by letting out a big snarling shout before quieting right down to slightly above idle when you take your foot off the pedal. It's also got great visibility, so you can see everything around you. You never have to guess if there's a car in your blind spot or not because there aren't any. It's also big enough that you can really bully people out of your way if you really need to(though I personally frown upon that sort of behavior). So as a consequence, this is the only car I've ever driven where flashing your lights at someone on the highway will get them to move out of your way at least half the time.
That is the most beautiful description of a Crown Vic I've ever heard
I'd totally drive a Crown Victoria when I move to America. I'm not so much interested in being able to bully other people as it just seems like an all-round good car. I'll admit I know nothing about the workings of cars beyond the basic functions (See: I didn't know how to use my ipod in my car) but sedans are almost universally handsome cars and there is definitely something intimidating about Crown Victorias that makes me want to drive one. The ability to store 5 bodies in the boot just sweetens the deal. If we had them here and I could afford it, I wouldn't hesitate to get one. We have the similar Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore as all-purpose sedans but they were sadly out of my price range when I was hunting cars.

Even if you didn't want to learn about cars, that's fine, because for the most part they're extremely reliable, as long as you're not getting a used taxi. [editline]10th August 2014[/editline] However I would definitely recommend doing a lot of research, specifically on fuel economy and ex-taxi(and sometimes police) transmission failures, and test driving before actually buying one. If you can ignore the fuel costs, it's extremely practical. Of course, if you're a real person paying for your own gas, you usually can't ignore the fuel costs. 12mpg city is not anything to boast about, and the best I've ever done is 14. However on the highway I can goose it all the way up to 26+. Once on the way back from Vegas I averaged 30.2 for the whole trip. It gets more and more practical the more highway driving you have to do.
I GOT IT I GOT IT THE LETTER FROM THE STATE THAT WILL ALLOW ME TO TAKE MY LICENSE TEST, IT'S HERE. Oh my god, I'm so fucking ecstatic, it happened. It is going to happen. Yesssss
Why would you want a rideable lawnmower as a car? The thing has 3 doors, hardly any room and no engine power whatsoever.
I don't understand the obsession with power when you aren't racing. If it has enough, I'm good. I'm not a "gear head" so horsepower is meaningless to me above a certain amount. I actually prefer it lower if it means I get better MPG. I actually got a geo metro 3cyl because of this as a matter of fact. Whatever gets me from point A to point B in the most efficent way possible time and gas/milage wise is ideal - I don't blast down roads, but I don't drive under the speed limit. If a car is nice and comfy while I'm doing it then even better. If it has room to carry something that would otherwise be too big to fit in a trunk, bonus points. If I'm spending extra money on a newish car I'd rather that money go to features/styling/comfort than to horsepower, assuming I'm not seriously sacrificing MPG to get it. It has way more space than you think, my friend owns one. 3 doors, don't care - I prefer 2 door cars anyways. I just like hatchbacks. they are small cars with the capability to actually carry that desk from ikea should I ever need to do such a thing.
I keep forgetting what day it is. This is hurting my head
I just like hatchbacks. they are small cars with the capability to actually carry that desk from ikea should I ever need to do such a thing.
I was surprised when I first opened the boot of my car. I never figured hatchbacks would have a large amount of room but for such a small car mine has a load of space in it.
Okay correction, I have to wait till Tuesday to take my test. Workable, workable.
Airports suck. How are you fine motherfuckers doing? I dun gone and got con flu and now I'm in BWI waiting to catch a flight to fucking Texas to then go back to Canada. I'm not sure why I'm posting this since the free wifi is gone in 40 mins but I really need something to do for the next 13 hours.
Lol look at all your tiny little cars. [t]http://i.imgur.com/upCROSu.jpg[/t] Twice as big, half as fast, twice as thirsty, that's my car's motto :v: ~220 horsepower, but once my current wave of upgrades is done it'll be pushing out a shattering..... 235. Second wave is going to be more substantial, providing somewhere around 400 horsepower to the rear wheels, meaning at least 435 at the crank. Plus it seats 6 and the back seats are excellent for fucking. [editline]10th August 2014[/editline] And the trunk can carry at least 5 people.
I'm trying to figure out how the fuck your Crown Vic is almost the size of my pickup and why anyone would want that in a saloon [editline]10th August 2014[/editline]
I was surprised when I first opened the boot of my car. Fuckkkkk I lost my keys ahhhhhhhh
I've seen all kinds of shit.
Welcome to furry conventions
False alarm, left my keys at my mothers house. We all good.
I hate when people go "Did you look in the place where you last left em?" when I'm trying to find something I've lost. Obviously not because then I WOULD'VE FUCKING FOUND THEM BY NOW
I hate when people go "Did you look in the place where you last left em?" when I'm trying to find something I've lost. I just stood there with a serious face staring at her.
They either do it to be smart asses or they do it because they legitimately think they're helping. Either way, AAAARRRGGGHHH :v:
I don't own a car nor do I fancy driving in the next 10 years. [SP] public transport when I move to the city would be 10/10[/SP]
we don't have public transit over here in north america it was banned for being communist
Bah, can't get into playing any games right now because I'm nervous about starting on my new education tomorrow... So now I'm bored as hell on top of being nervous.
I hope you're kidding.
We have public transit, its just incredibly lacking compared to other countries.
I hope you're kidding.
not really. public transit in the us is godawful
Welcome to furry conventions
Fourth one by this point. First "big" hotel convention though. I've mostly been wandering or helping out at the table my friend has.
not really. public transit in the us is godawful
I don't know how it is like in USA but I think it's probably better than what exists in Toronto..
In the US there is zero public transport unless you live in a city, and usually only big cities have good public transport. Chicago has excellent public transport for example - get one pass and get total access to the bus and train system throughout the city, and it generally runs pretty efficiently. Other cities, not so much.
That's more because there's zero demand for public transport outside of cities. Shit costs a good amount of money in tax money to run and considering that freeways are also paid for by taxes and free to use by anyone, roads are nice and wide and easy to drive on, driver's licenses are thrown around everywhere, insurance is cheap, gasoline is cheap and cars are cheap - not too shabby, all in all.
Also buses are shit
Pittsburgh had a decent bus system when I lived there
Also buses are shit
depends on which kind of bus but in general it's the cheapest because they can go on any road (more or less) and don't require expensive rails or tracks like streetcars, light rail transit or subway trains. they are painfully slow tho.
not really. public transit in the us is godawful
I remember having to ride the city bus home from high school. It was terrible. I was asked for drugs a few times as well. :v:
