Dude I live like 30 minutes away, yet I've never seen the place, I should go there sometime
It's sort of obscured by a big condo complex, it's off on a side street behind the police station. Definitely go, you won't regret it.
There's not a specific 'famous' restaurant I can think of, but you gotta check out Deep Creek Lake, MD and the surrounding area

It's got a ton of local mom+pop cafes and restaurants on the lakeside, definitely worth a stop. Also it's not quite a food stop but there's a specific whitewater rafting spot around there I could take you for a wild ride on hehhhhh

the ride is my raft

Get the Quadruple bypass burger.

This is why we think most Americans are morbidly obese.
There's a non-franchise pizza place near where I live in Jonesboro, Arkansas called Lazzari's Pizza. They're a little bit expensive (except for their strombolis). Very, VERY good pizza. The strombolis are cheap (like $9 for an entire pizza folded in half, up to 5 toppings). They also have great pasta.
If you drive by my place on the way there I'll treat you :v:
Make sure to get some beignets if you ever stop in New Orleans.
And either El Pinto's or Garduno's if you pass through Albuquerque. Get yourself some real-ass Mexican food, none of that Tex-Mex stuff.
Melt Bar and Grilled in lovely Cleveland, Ohio. All grilled cheese, all the time. And its not just American cheese on white bread, no no no.

Don't let me convince you. Let Guy do it!

If you want something a little more fancy and Gourmet, go to Lola or Lolita, both run by Michael Symon. Fantastic, but not cheap.

Please visit Cleveland. We need all the tourist revenue (or any revenue...) that we can get!
Green Mill Cocktail Lounge - Chicago
I know, I know. Not really a place to eat, but alcohol is undeniably important. Anyways, this is the birthplace of slam poetry and is a hot spot for Chicago jazz. If either of those things are important to you it's worth a stop.
Motherfucking Five Guys.
Five Guys is national though. I'm more looking for places exclusive to a city.
Ann's Snack Bar, in Atlanta, GA. I live not fifteen minutes away and I'm honestly surprised I don't weigh 300 pounds. It's about as hole-in-the-wall as you can get; it doesn't even have its own website. Fucking amazing burgers.

Also, Nick Tahou Hots, in Rochester, NY. I've never been there personally, but one of my friends has and he says it's great.

Me neither.
When you enter the Western states, go to a In n' Out. If you happen to go to South California, try El Burrito Junior.
Well we're not traveling specifically for food. We're including other tourist spots and cool places, but those are easier to find via travel sites. I like getting input by people other than celebrity opinion anyway.

In n' Out is a chain.
Leon's Custard in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Famous for being the setting of a few episodes of the TV show "Happy Days." Better hurry too, I think they might be closing soon.

But we got the VW love bus.
But we got the VW love bus.
We have to look like we are time travelers from the past.
And people will be like "How are you even possible?"
And we will say. "WE HAVE TO TELL YOU ABOUT THE PAST."
I was in Decatur Georgia this week and went to a burger place call Universal Joint, aka U Joint.
http://www.ujointbar.com/
Highly recommend going there.
Kansas City is filled with historic BBQ joints but I don't like most because the quality of their food is outweighed by how shitty the environment is, that's why I prefer Jack Stack BBQ, not only do they have the best spare ribs by far, they actually look like a restaurant and not a gas station bathroom.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiorella's_Jack_Stack_Barbecue
It was named #1 bbq house by Zagat.
Not really local since I don't live here anymore but

Pizza Factory at Cedar City, Utah.
(Not a part of the chain)
