What were the cover artists thinking?
It was hard times back then. You could draw and got paid. That was more or less it. With a few exceptions, artists should leave the dialogue to real writers.:eng101:

Get the kids' attention with a weird ass cover on the front. Place 'if you want to find out how the fuck this happened, buy and read this!' Then make profit.
This didn't happen for all Silver Age comics of course but at the time it was a proven way to get readers buy their comics.
[editline]29th May 2013[/editline]
It was also easier for the artists + writers to come up with those crazy ass plots/stories because there really wasn't much an emphasis on 'continuity' and over branching arcs throughout issues. It just didn't happen all that much. So, tons of writers made up weird stories and labelled them under 'imaginary stories'. 'Superdickery' just gets a portion of those weird covers. I like them because they're fun in general and most of them doesn't take itself too seriously. Some of them were pretty dramatic or thought provoking but the majority of them were just an excuse to have Superman and his friends be in really weird/funny situations.

I'm no comic reader, but you got my attention.
What's this comic's name? Can I read it online somewhere?
The name is in the post: 'Spider-Man: Reign'
As far as I know, there is no legal way to read it online for free. However you can get it in digital form by being a member of MDCU and buying it. Here's the link if you're interested.

Still, if you want some sad Spider-Man story related to romance, 'Spider-Man: Blue' is way way better.
says it right in the post
Spider-Man: Reign
Edit: goddammit
And Spider-Man: Blue is not only a good sad romance story but one of the best Spider-Man stories ever written
Yup that's why I recommended it.

There are some pretty shocking villians as well. The Hemo-Goblin was invented by a white supremacy group to bite black people and drink AIDS-infested blood.

Actually the story behind this was pretty interesting, if I remember correctly. Dick had his arm in a vice after some public injury so Batman had to draw people's attention away from Robin with the garish Batsuits so they wouldn't realize Robin was Dick Grayson.
You want sins, go read The Dark Knight Strikes Again. Alternatively just look at it.

I read the whole thing in one night in a sleep-deprived stupor, and I still couldn't believe what the hell was happening.

god, product placement is awkward.

Or if it's intentional to make a product look so batshit and awkward that it's laughable.

Have you read it? This had to have been the worst comic book I have read in a while.
Deadpool as a character is so far out there, you sometimes are unsure if you are reading a spoof, bad writing or him just being Deadpool.
But the Deadpool dog with the knife in his mouth was a give away.
These have to be some of the most poorly drawn, nonsensical, AWFUL comics I have ever read, as a Silent Hill fan the fact that they merely exists is offensive:

If you do, you are not looking at art:downs:
