You don't pronounce it "P"wners...... Didn't they learn anything from the teh_pwnerer? I yeah they didn't a fuck back then but now games are a chance for money grabbing. I would prefer to watch something about video games from people who actually you know..played and play games and they love it.
You definitely have no idea who FreddieW and crew are, because they're all massive nerds. I understand how the show makes it seem as though they don't have much experience with videogames, so your perspective has justification, but you're still dead wrong.
Tumblr Academy is better

This is money grabbing. I do know who they are and I am sure that they don't know shit. Jackald my man covered this very well for me. So just let it be son. Don't try to debate this . They are clueless.

And Jackald covered it with a random accusation that sounds like it was made by someone who also enjoys bitching about "fake gamer girls".
Oh yeah? What do they play? Call of Duty, Skyrim and Final Fantasy 7? oooh, so geeky. I'm sure they're looking forward to Skyrim 2.
I've watched some of their podcasts, and they're so far from what you're trying to pin them as. The entire point of this show is that it's cheesy- and as a film major I can say you probably haven't an eighth of a clue how much work goes (and money smartly, fairly spent) goes into making something on this level. That's a bummer that you've decided to have a shit attitude about it, but I have no problem enjoying the show for what it is, and just being happy to see the result of people doing something they love, regardless of how dumb some people on the internet decided they were at a glance.
Don't try to debate this . They are clueless.
lol
Honestly, I feel like most of what people have to complain about was done intentionally, as the show making fun of itself or at least the characters and scenes within it. Like, the people whinging about 'pwners and zoners' have clearly never watched or understood the show, because the entire premise of that news-show in the series is making fun of the MLG and corporate sponsorship scene. aka if u dont liek it because you just don geting it idiots I enjoy the show because it's cute, it's always mildly entertaining at the least, and because the people making it care a lot about what they're doing. I'm always impressed by what they're able to accomplish with not-that-much-money (compare this show to an actual TV series budget and I think it's pretty drastic)
hit the nail right on the head it's like when people complain about Killlakill having too much fan service when it's a show revolving entirely around parodying serious shows with too much fan service and dumb plots
The whole premise of VGHS is sooooo stupid. I only ever see this appealing to super nerdy socially awkward middle school and elementary school kids with no active life.
Obviously we have fans of all age ranges, but informally, we've found that our demographic for the show is generally middle school to high school, and then post-college age. I've found that often it boils down to: do you think video games are serious business and should be treated as such, or do you think video games are fun and irreverent? We generally fall in the latter camp. So, basically, we're not interested in making sure our gamer cred is untarnished with the accepted pronunciation of "pwn," we're more interested in depicting the world that takes gaming so seriously that any pronunciation of a typo born from typing too fast in text chat is actually accepted vernacular.
My problem is that VGHS is parodying stuff badly.
To be fair, we never really set out to "parody" anything.
To be fair, we never really set out to "parody" anything.
Since you're claiming to be FreddieW, can we at least have some proof of you are so we can have a proper discussion.
Since you're claiming to be FreddieW, can we at least have some proof of you are so we can have a proper discussion.
My next tweet will be asking for recommendations for room escape games on the iPhone. Wow, if that's legitimate, holy shit. Freddie, you're like, a big deal, and here you are having a relatively civil discussion with some scoobs right in front of me, in my preffered little corner of the internet. It's almost like I saw Emma Watsons elbow from halfway down the block in a cafe or something. Crazy. Edit: And it is legitimate. <3 ya bb
I don't see the major problems with the show, it maybe a little cheesy at bits but I enjoyed it. But to be fair, the main target audience includes me, so, I may have a biased answer. I can understand why people wouldn't like it.
It's cheesy. But I like the series. Sort of a guilty pleasure.

I personally don't like you, but i think you're talented. I don't think you give a shit if I don't think you're funny.
Freddie getting down and dirty with Facepunch scrublords for some reason what a time to be alive
I respect the amount of effort you put into your work, but really, I just really really don't like VGHS. I know i'm not the target audience for it, and I respect the amount of work you put in, but VGHS gives off a vibe of target demographics and business meetings; "Let's include a need for speed-ish game" and "let's make sure we have a generic fantasy game, but let's keep it nice and general so that our viewers understand what game it is." A kind of expectation that your audience only has a very very loose knowledge of video games, which in my opinion limits the amount of fun you can have with the video game format, and forces you to focus on the high school aspect, which is really really generic. I guess also the style of comedy falls very flat for me as well, and I honestly find the characters kind of annoying, spouting really dumb lines like it's an episode of the big bang theory. Like I said, I respect that it's incredibly successful and has clearly had a lot of work put into it, but I frankly really don't like it, and it comes across as being really generic and by the numbers somehow, despite its fantastic premise. I know you could argue that that's because it's trying to parody that kind of format, but just doing all of the cliches and tropes of a genre doesn't automatically make it a parody, and the "we did this bad, but that's okay because it's a parody" thing comes across as a bit of an excuse for being unable to convey these concepts without following such an established formula.
Out of curiosity, what is your age and geographical location? That stuff is always interesting to me. I think it's important here, as with probably everything in life, to try and separate what you bring to something and what is actually being presented. While you read the presence of a racing game or a fantasy game as a cynical attempt to cover our bases genre-wise for demographics, I think the text of the show itself (and also me knowing our reasoning for the inclusion) doesn't say anything of the sort. The fantasy game's purpose is to be a non-competitive game that the characters play as friends. The racing game's purpose is to set up a genre that Ted excels at, but faces pressure to not play/compete in. Of course, I'm not trying to discount what you read as the vibe, but I think that objectively, you're reading more into intent than is actually presented. Also, I think it's worthwhile to check what our definitions of "tropes" and "cliches" are, because often times, I think those terms are kind of thrown around online and the definitions have gotten loose. You touch on something that I've noticed a lot of people touch on that aren't fans of the show - that they think the premise is awesome or great, but disagree with or don't like how that concept is executed. That's interesting to me, because I want to know what that execution looks like (and odds are, that particular execution might be something that I personally wouldn't enjoy). Finally, I specifically don't argue it's trying to parody any kind of format - as noted previously, we never really set out to be a "parody." Also, probably important to note if you're talking about Season 1 or Season 2 because they're two different beasts in a lot of ways. And yeesh guys relax I don't lose sleep if people don't like what we do, same way I don't lose sleep knowing that there are people out there who think Speed Racer is a bad movie (it is not).

Most youtubers don't even bother replying to constructive feedback in detail. You truly are a great youtuber, keep it up.
Just because you pump a ton of money into something doesn't guarantee its quality. I'm not watching it going "Gosh, i'd probably value that scene at $235,000, what an expensive scene!"
You're basically responding to the exact opposite of what I've said. I'm saying "holy shit a large production company producing a cable television show would have spent like 8 times as much as they did on this episode" especially when a show like GoT spends probably 5-6 times their entire seasons budget on one episode. So what I'm saying, although you'll probably just come up with some other argument anyway, is that I'm impressed with what they're accomplishing with their budget. Keeping that in mind is just one of many things that makes it easier to appreciate the series for what it is and what it's trying to be.
I Rewatched VGHS, at first found it a bit cingy, but its grown on me.
I remember watching the first season and I stopped at some point near the end. Not sure why I don't remember but I think I started watching something else whilst waiting for a new episode and forgot about vghs. If I find the time I might re watch from the beginning.

"Another internet argument in the bag," he smirked, simultaneously giving and receiving high fives while adjusting his Naruto headband, "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm outta here. 'Nuffa this!" He slung his legs over his Portal-themed Kawasaki Ninja and accelerated into the sunset, never to be seen again.
i have yet to watch it, but any show that has The Protomen in its soundtrack is good in my book
I love VGHS and seriously cannot wait for Season 3.

I don't have any accesories but if I could I would get some valve shit. Change your anime stuff there to valve's and you won the arguement.
Not a fan of VGHS, but I'm not really the market for it and I respect the amount of work that goes into it. Something about the gamer market doesn't really appeal to me. Mean fuck dude, fwong went from guitar hero and simple videos on the new 16:9 ratio on YouTube to having a full production, fuck dude. And responds well to criticism on the internet.
