If you listen closely you can hear the song make fun of the national guard.

ITT: nobody realizes 80% of all National guard forces are overseas.
Is the national guard like the TA in the UK?

1:19 They let chubby asians into the army now?
That Asian you are referring to is an Native American Soldier from the Alaska National Guard who was trained by Lance Mackey and who finished the 1,100 mile 2009 Iditarod Dog Sled Race this year as a rookie. I'd say that deserves to be in a Guard commercial.
I wish there was more respect coming from this forum about the Guard Soldiers...yes, they are ALL Soldiers in the video, not Hollywood actors. Some of you need to understand the facts and what the National Guard is and does. And yes, if you join a Special Forces National Guard unit - you can sign up in either the 19th or 20th Special Forces - take your pick - and you will be doing some high-speed training in a Zodiac "rubber boat". In fact, Zodiacs are sometimes extracted out of the water into the back of a Chinook - OWNED by the National Guard!
The firefighters belong to the North Carolina National Guard and again - are REAL Soldiers.
...and if you are from another country, I have trained with the British, Dutch, Germans, Moldovans, Romanians, Italian, Belgiums..etc and I have much respect for your military service members. Soldiers do what Soldier have to do, no matter the Politics involved. Give up some respect.

Dude what planet are you on? Go down to your local National Guard armory and talk to those guys hiding under a porch who just got back from their 2nd or 3rd overseas deployment! Oh, and then go spend time with the family of that Guard Soldier who didn't come back from "under the porch." Tell his or her kids how you think their dad or mom was a coward who hid "under the porch" and bled on the battlefield for your punk ass.
I thought the national guard weren't THAT shit? Just reserve soldiers with more basic training?

I liked the part where it looked like those two guys were trying out for American Gladiator. It's a shame Malibu wasn't there, he could have given them some pointers.

You're right, that Canadian advert was awesome! Careful, though - some will acuse you guys that the snow was fake or that - boats really dont exist - or those guys are hiding under some friggin porch - or it really isn't cold in Ontario - or ask some senseless question like, "what kind of idiot would want to rescue those people" - or even suggest that there is no respect and honor in serving alongside Canada's strong and her brave.
As for me, I salute each and every one of them. They are all heroes in my book! Long Live Canada! And to her forces, who brave the wild, climb the heights, swim the deep, lay the stone, rescue the distressed, fight on some foreign field hot as Hell and never complain and spend years away from loved ones fighting in some desolate place far from comfort, I say, "Thank You!"

You're missing the point. Seeing as you joined just to defend the video, I joined to explain to you what's wrong with it.
It's a big loud mishmash of cliche'd incoherent nonsense and a waste of taxpayer $$$ at that. An opportunity for the National Guard to set itself apart, explain to the public how it is different from the Active/Reserves, etc., ended up being a big loud overdramatic display of random imagery (though some of it is well shot) that left the viewer scratching their head or at most wonder who made the music.
It's a big "Me TOO!" video instead of a "Here's who I am" video. Can you point out a single original concept in that video? This thread alone points out how obvious an identity crisis the National Guard has, but instead of working to overcome that issue, it ignores it.
It would appear that 99% of the video is fake/setup shots, which would be fine if the production were telling a story, but it does not, it simply yells at you about what you're seeing without telling you why. "At this moment failure is not an option?" Failure where? The video never shows anything except shadowy figures running around or yelling at each other, for what? Especially now in the current state of our operations overseas, one might expect the National Guard to reflect on accomplishments, maybe even show some to a public that never gets to see/hear anything about the possible good our service-members are doing. Instead the video falls into every negative critique ever thrown at a recruiting ad and does nothing to avoid them, as though 75years or so of motion recruiting material was completely overlooked and someone said "hey I've got an idea! Lets use some bombastic music and throw a bunch of random images to it, that's never been done before!"
It is edited/layed out as though it is advertising a video game or movie, but with no storyline, which has been pointed out here many times. Randomly throwing people in firefighter uniforms, what is that all about? Do they want people to believe the National Guard actually does that? Then the Guard needs to consider advertising that actually explains what it IS to a modern public that has little clue unless a family-member or friend is in. This style might have worked in Starship Troopers, but we're not fighting bugs here, people need a little more substance to chew on when they're bombarded with all forms of media all day long, and the Guardsmen deserve something with thought put into it.
I write all this as a former Guardsman proud of my service, but used to seeing nonsensical National Guard ads for quite a while, and it's a shame to see nothing has changed. I hope for the Guard's sake the video "works" on a level not covered here for more potential enlistees.
Check out the commenters, most of them are fake accounts.

Fair enough. I see your point on many of your comments. [At last] a coherent comment well defended and surprisingly intellectual, given that [according to some comments] the National Guard hires folks that are too stupid to do anything else. At least, as a former Guardsman, you have stuck your ass out there unlike some of these guys hiding behind a computer monitor making insanely ignorant comments that could be rebutted with a basic and simple 5-minute Google search. Thanks, Bro. I wish you well in all your endeavours. If the video creates buzz and those who want to know more visit the Guard site at http://www.NationalGuard.com or http://www.YouTube.com/NationalGuard - or it inspires others to join military branches of their choice, then it served it's purpose. It is hard to explain what the Guard does in 2.5 minutes. Even the Marines dont attempt to do that. Consider it a movie trailer for service in the Guard.
Peace out and THANK YOU for your service!

Eckert, Sup. When i watched the video, this is what I think it is driving home (by showing National Guard Firefighters) who are called out to fight forest fires on a regular basis and who DO rescue people. Anyway, here is a real life link. No we dont save people every day and props go to our MANY paid and volunteer firefighters and police who are laying it on the line everyday. But a cool find.

True dat, Bro.
BREAK
BTW, for those who WANT TO KNOW [everyone else disregard], each state has its own National Guard force which is made up of both the Air National Guard (AirForce) and the Army National Guard (Army). There are HUNDREDS of different type jobs.
Because it is part-time, the Guard allows you to continue to work in your civilian career field, whether it be as a student, teacher, doctor, sales person mechanic, policeman/policewoman, computer technician, retail worker, plumber, artist, landscaper, farmer, businessman, craftsman, etc.
You will work for the Governor of that State unless you are put on Federal duty by ORDER of the President. You are required to be in uniform (duty) one weekend a month (which = 24 days per year) AND for 2 weeks during the Summer (which is another = 15 days) TOTAL on duty days per year = 38. In most cases YOU WILL at some point deploy overseas to support operations there. If that is the case, you will be on Federal Active Duty just like full-time Army or AirForce folks.
Wanna drive a 128,000 pound tank [like the fake tank with the fake driver and the fake water splashes in the video] *Sarcasm* or wanna go to Airborne or Air Assualt School or join a Special Forces unit or do over a HUNDRED other army related jobs? Then join the Army National Guard.
Wanna be on a ParaRescue team ONE WEEKEND a month doing some badass shit and then go back to your civilian computer programming job for the rest of the month? Or work on C-130's and F22's or HUNDREDS of other air force related jobs PART TIME. Then join the Air National Guard
http://www.ehow.com/how_2078582_train-be-pararescue-jumper.html Click here to find out about the Air National Guard ParaRescue team - guess what they do? They save mofo's!!!!
http://www.129rqw.ang.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123107171
Both Army and Air National Guard fight fires. The Army National Guard Firefighters (I cant speak for the Air Guard) come equipped with the fire suits, the HOOAH training, and yes, the shiny red truck [like the fake one in the video] *Sarcasm*
Woah, you don't need to post all that content.

There's so such thing as honor. Honor never existed and never will. What matters isn't your petty bravado and your idealism, what matters is fixing and creating things. And if you don't create things, but instead break them, you're doing a disservice. And i don't give a shit how "honorable" actions are, I care if they're constructive or not.
Vikings were pillagers, a roving band of thugs who took what they couldn't make. The fact that you idealize them speaks pages of your character.
You talk of empty people? That's what you are. A pathetic fool clinging to outdated and useless paragons of violence and idiocy. Fair enough on the Viking comment. I suppose a better analogy could have been used. I should have done the 5 minute Google search myself to recall that era and group. You win that one:) Poor choice. [I edited it out]. My point is, dont have a problem with the Dutch Soldier who does his duty and leaves his family in Den Haag or Groeneveld to fulfill his military commitment that he swore to do. Dont fault the German who leaves Munchengladbach or Phaffenscwhabbenheim to go to Iraq or Afghanistan. Countries need armies (unfortunately) and the Soldier doesnt get to choose which battle he fights - if he questions when and where he fights, he ceases to become a Soldier. Politics should be reserved for the people (you guys) to decide - ImaSoldier doesnt get that luxury nor should he - otherwise when the charge is, "Take that hill" you'd have a thousand Soldiers asking, "Why". But in your quest for driving policy - why charge the man or woman who is taking orders?
I too have a problem with some of the great (senseless) battles fought, many in recent times (I will refrain from expressing my political views). I see value in many of your comments, because there are always 2 sides. I suppose, no matter the analogy I use, there will be holes in my comments.
But, what are you building or constructing when your boundless frustrations are directed at the Soldier? What does that accomplish? Become a political voice, but dont lose credibility along the way because the Soldier is your soft target. March on Frankfurt. March on DC. March on London, March on Prague (thank a Soldier and a people for that right) but for Great sake make sure your picket says something that affects change. Thanks for the dialog. ImaSoldier gotta roll out.
God give us Peace for mankind.

"The soldier" gets to choose to join the army. That's why I fault you; you submit your will to those who neither care for your life or the lives of others. And you do it willingly and call it honor.
Holes? More like fatal flaws. Your logic is based on assumption and ignorance.
I don't direct my hatred at the soldier! The soldier is awesome!
Look at him!

Seriously, stop talking like that. It's not poetic, it's just confusing.
Oh yes, that would be grand. A single man march. I'm sure that would draw the eyes of the entire nation. Life doesn't work like that. Violence is in mankind's blood, ironically enough. The only thing that will lead to peace is commerce. Because greed rules over hatred.
War is our fucking culture. It suckered you in pretty damn easily now didn't it? You parrot the same "honor duty apple pie" mantra that half the nation says before it goes to sleep. You obviously never thought what any of the words you're saying mean, you just submit to them, like a good little soldier.
And if God wanted peace, he would have told us to kill less people.
