Can it be assigned to contraptions? Like, controlling humanoid robots for example!
LUA probably can can't it?
I assume ragdolls use the joint/limb names as defined for their animated counterparts, so I think that this kinect system maps the observed player's movements using those named limbs
if you could assign 'this grouping of props is the left arm' in Gmod then I don't see why this wouldn't work
The brick on a rope..
" Aaagh, Garry SMASH! "
Garry, you're a genius.
Why does the rope have a shadow from one lightsource but not from the other?
projected textures are glitchy
I really want a kinect now. I can try to yoyo in gmod now.
Looks like fun
I'm going to go buy a kinect now and I don't even have an Xbox
Fuck... The kinect that comes with the 360 slim bundle uses a special connector that connects ONLY with the slim...
getting kinect just for this
QUICK, SOMEBODY MAKE A GMOD DANCE COMPETITION GAMEMODE!
Oh god fucking yes
Now I can finally rub my hands all over gman like im actually their.
It's so hilarious that kinect is perfect for everything except the thing it was designed for :v:
This is all fun and games until it goes Live, then one day a couple of friends are playing around with it
Eventually, one of them goes AFK but forgets to turn off the Kinect
And to everyone's horror, in full glorious view of the entire server; a single idle Alyx, standing in the middle of the map furiously, and graphically jacking off.
Not even once
[sp]This is great by the way, a lot more detailed than a lot of real Kinect games. Brilliant how even jumping works, too[/sp]
This opens up infinite machinima potential, some of those animations looked better than certain games'
Stop thinking about it being kinect for a second and then watch it.
It's actually quite terrifying, it's like a bad dream.
Maybe now someone could make a lightsaber weapon wielded with the Kinect's motion animations.
Better than dancing anytime. :v:
Fuck... The kinect that comes with the 360 slim bundle uses a special connector that connects ONLY with the slim...
They do make adapters for those AFAIK. But an external power source will be needed.
Couldn't you parent the camera to the ragdoll's face, and have a deathmatch?
I can only imagine a new age to ragdoll posing

Wow, this is an awesome idea...well executed too
I just sold my Kinect too and only got 14 bucks for it.
FUCK
I want to use this with the oculus rift and either data gloves or wiimotes
so bad
It'd be interesting to try and pick things up and throw them, since the ragdoll collides with physics objects.
You'd have to do it with the palms of your hands though, or just your arms, since fingers don't work.
A friend and I have wanted to make a machinima for a long time, but had no means. We can't animate for shit, SFM is a pain in the butte, and frame by frame isn't practical.
Garry, you're awesome. This looks so damn cool, I might just have to buy kinect for this :v:
Maybe.
What's it like in the future? Are you having any problems with any foooooolish samurai?
It was a bit of a trip into the Uncanny Valley seeing the default HL2 models move with such realism. I gotta say, this looks amazing. If I get the opportunity to pick up a kinect for cheap I'll probably do it for this.
That guy looked REALLY stoked to spin a cinder block overhead. This is pretty impressive stuff
