It's highly likely he was using a low-powered load. Not everyone rocks it out to the range with loads designed to fuck people up :v:
Weyland-Yutani should hire this guy. This weapon looks pretty good. Needs some heavy durability tests before production, but otherwise, you have GOOD WEAPON. Also, with that shotgun attachment, you could easily pop in some Frag-12 rounds, and you have a grenade launcher attached.

12 gauge slugs are .729 caliber, and bolts are .75 caliber.
Does that mean that with the Frag-12 round, you have effectively mounted a bolter to the barrel of your gun?

I barely know anything about guns but wouldn't the weight of all the added stuff weigh it down?

it's more effective at killing.
Shoot someone in the chest / upper gut with a rifle, they've got a good chance of dying because of the penetration of the bullet.
A shotgun might (keyword: might) just fuck them up as the pellets don't penetrate as well.
And if they're hit in the head, the damage done is reversed - the bullet does less (because all of the energy is focused in one spot, but that one spot is completely destroyed) and the shotgun pellets pretty much destroy the head.
Head's don't "explode" like people think - it kind of just breaks open and falls apart, jaw hanging off, etc

From what I know a sniper rifle like a M82 would be more worse than a small shotgun.
That shotgun looked very uncomfortable to fire.
