I doubt they made this within a year.
AM2R was in development for 10 years and had an active blog detailing its development.
I don't think they made this because of AM2R, but they most likely shut down AM2R so it wouldn't compete with this.

tbh I feel like they could've shutdown AM2R a lot earlier if they wanted to, but they still let it finish before doing so
maybe its just me being optimistic tho
It's funny that we were all too pessimistic to think of them shitting on AM2R as a sign they had their own Metroid 2 remake in the works.

Yeah, but it's Nintendo and they unpredictable. Everybody thought Metroid was dead after Federation Force and its bad sales as they thought Nintendo would look at those sales and think: "Oh, people don't want Metroid anymore".
This looks worse than AM2R.

Yeah probably because Nintendo shits on every fan project they can spot on the internet.
I am unsure about the aeon abilities and melee dodge, but I'm just happy to see the series hasn't been forgotten about Nintendo and will welcome any new spins on the franchise (apart from any that belittle samus into a child ). This is the solid 2 1/2D metroid game I've wanted for years.
Also glad to hear proper metroid music, not the drivel in Fed Force & Other M; you can just make out a new version of the Tunnels theme and it's sounding v. Good.
The teleports seem like a bit of a cop out, whilst there's always been fast travel in the metroid games it's usually once you've reached the final stages of the game. Getting rid of backtracking so early on is going to really impact the length of the game
I can't wait to hear this music again:

Listen to from 16:30 onwards. Very quiet in the background, but that tune is unmistakable
