While whites may have, most whites today have not. Why should I have to sit and ignore a double standard cause my great great grandparents may or may not have owned slaves?
because the past influences the future double standards exist all the time in our society, but they come as a result from something [editline]4th November 2010[/editline]
Also I hate the term African American. My French teacher is black, straight from Burkina-Faso, moved here like 4 years ago. He is not an American citizen. He would just be african, but that's not even a race. He's black. I don't see what's so bad about people being black, why do we need to make up another supposedly "less offensive" term for it? Not every black person is African-American, and that's not even really a race.
using that train of argument you could say that we shouldn't call them black either considering they aren't actually black in colour [editline]4th November 2010[/editline]
SonofBrim;25856258']I do a little bit... there are a lot of black kids at my school who have an itchy trigger finger when it comes to pulling the racism card on everything. They throw insults, push you around, and you really can't do much because if you do you must be "racist". And it's really a shame, because a good portion of these kids are actually smart, and are capable of getting pretty good grades.
what happens often is that you build yourself a stereotype, then adapt reality to that stereotype when you see one black dude use the race card, you automatically validate your own stereotype
the absolutely fucking hilarious part of this thread is that you clearly didn't even read your own definitions. "something conforming to a fixed or general pattern; especially : a standardized mental picture that is held in common by members of a group and that represents an oversimplified opinion, prejudiced attitude, or uncritical judgment" a stereotype is inherently racist you fucking dunce
Good points in the OP :) Context is something a lot of people don't seem to understand either.
op is dumb
because the past influences the future double standards exist all the time in our society, but they come as a result from something
So rather than saying "well we deserve it cause of our ancestors", why not just quit the damn blame game and try to get rid of double standards as a whole? Doesn't using racism from the past only keep it alive by paying attention to it?
I love black coffee, it is my favourite beverage. I am so sorry th89 please no ban
[img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4237780/lmaoimages/racism.png[/img_thumb]
Holy shit, this. People yelled at Valve when they released L4D because Louis is the only black survivor and they think it's racist.
So rather than saying "well we deserve it cause of our ancestors", why not just quit the damn blame game and try to get rid of double standards as a whole? Doesn't using racism from the past only keep it alive by paying attention to it?
in order to get rid of double standards, you'd have to remove the need for double standards having a large amount of black people be poor compared to white people isn't a double standard or a blame game, it's reality america loves the underdog, and the only way you'll get rid of that is making black people equal in society but they so obviously are not, you're looking at it completely backwards
even though that's true i don't really understand the difference it's not like it's a fucking loophole, like when you say "BLACK PEOPLE LOVE CHICKEN AND WATERMELON" you can't be like "HAHA IT'S NOT RACIST FUCK YOU"
It depends on what you mean when you say they love chicken and watermelon. You can use it as a joke with no negative intent, or you can actually believe it as you say it. It's not racist or not racist simply by nature, it's what you mean by it that makes it a racist thing.
People yelled at Valve when they released L4D because Louis is the only black survivor and they think it's racist.
who is people like i said, you fit reality to the stereotype it doesn't matter if all Asian people are bad at driving, because as soon as you see one bad driver who happens to be Asian you validate your own stereotype
Funny that when a black/asian/indian man etc insult white people about their race, it isn't racism. People are ignorant.
that's because being white is awesome and you're an asshole if you don't admit it
If it involves Mexicans or black people, it's racist. If it involves anyone else, it's totally right and they probably deserved it. It's just like sexism double standards.
It depends on what you mean when you say they love chicken and watermelon. You can use it as a joke with no negative intent, or you can actually believe it as you say it. I agree context is important, but implying context is even more important hence why CK Louis can say nigger on stage without any sort of controversy but when doctor whatever her fucking name is starts shouting NIGGER NIGGER NIGGGER it does become controversial
even though that's true i don't really understand the difference it's not like it's a fucking loophole, like when you say "BLACK PEOPLE LOVE CHICKEN AND WATERMELON" you can't be like "HAHA IT'S NOT RACIST FUCK YOU"
i don't understand this post much at all what are you saying is true and what is the difference i mean what
If one even mentions the word black around TH89 he bans you. True story.
in order to get rid of double standards, you'd have to remove the need for double standards having a large amount of black people be poor compared to white people isn't a double standard or a blame game, it's reality america loves the underdog, and the only way you'll get rid of that is making black people equal in society but they so obviously are not, you're looking at it completely backwards
By continuing to recognize people as inherently different in law (affirmative action, for example), you only keep the problem alive. So you can't just "make" them equal. They have equal rights, and true there will always be some racist people, but the best way to kill racism may be for the government to stop recognizing race. If they stop judging people in any way based on race, if the media stops telling us all about how different races are doing in society, then the importance of race will fall in our own minds as well.
you still enjoy the privileges and positive effects resulting from white oppression
Not everyone is American.
don't tell TH89 that
I did before, and got a ban extension. :v:
Not everyone is American.
Yeah but no one cares about non Americans because America is #1 most important country ever and everyone else is obviously second class. Dumb ratings fuel America
Resident Evil 4: The only enemies are Spanish. Verdict: That's fine
Spanish people with Mexican accent :eng101: I also hate affirmative action in ANY form, we are all humans, races, sexes and classes are only a mere differenciation like "Tall" and "Short", we are all the same, no matter if a person is gay, anarchist, poor, muslim, retarded or whatever, we have the same rights.
By continuing to recognize people as inherently different in law (affirmative action, for example), you only keep the problem alive.
well excuse me, but having one dude go to college and ignoring their massively different set of opportunities will not fix anything if you oppress via the government system you can't just let people go and say that's it folks, there has to be balance and i don't believe for a second that government views black people as more important than rich white people
So you can't just "make" them equal. Blacks and whites don't have the same privileges? Enlighten me on this please. I'm pretty sure that anyone can apply for scholarships and colleges, and anyone can pay attention in school. You can apply for a job no matter what race you are, etc.
Yeah but no one cares about non Americans because America is #1 most important country ever and everyone else is obviously second class. Dumb ratings fuel America
Supported my country :patriot:
It's so funny because 75% of you neither know what racism is, nor know how ignorant they are. And I'm not even going to comment on the mods' understanding of racism. I might get banned. Black people.
Actually, in all respects except maybe the building and maintaining of nations, white people are probably the inferior race, if there is such a thing. [editline]4th November 2010[/editline] I am white.
Blacks and whites don't have the same privileges?
they're INFERIOR people who lack the mental capacity to PAY ATTENTION in school
someone unaware of how the world works would say something like that
