Well, it's not 90% over here, but still pretty bad. I don't even blame [I]them[/I] for it although a lot of people here do, in my opinion this whole thing is not the gypsies fault alone. I quite dislike the whole aspect of not being able to generalize a group of people because somehow making a bit of generalization means your argument is bad. A lot of times when talking about a group of people you don't know the actual statistic, but you know that the majority or a large portion of that group of people does fit the argument you'll just kind of casually say it. Then you get called out on that you're stereotyping a group of people even if the whole stereotyping of the group has nothing to do with your argument working or not. For example, I say something like "the reason why the Chinese are a lot smarter than is because they are more dedicated to their studies to do their culture". Now statistically the Chinese students are smarter than American students, but what's likely to be brought up is that I'm stereotyping Chinese people. Someone may say not all Chinese people are smart, or there are a lot smart Americans, but that whole nitpicking causes people to lose the point that the statement being made that the smarter people study more. Now my argument wouldn't get nitpicked if I included some study or worded it so I say "according to many studies average Chinese people are smarter in math and...", but in casual talk these general talk it really shouldn't need to be specified.
