Nothing wrong with liking elves, regardless of whether it could be considered a fetish. We're trying to get past that remember? I have a fetish for red-headed characters, if I could draw that's what I'd be drawing.
But yes, variation is good.
A WIP sketch of a new character I'm working on, and am planning to model. I decided to make something I'm sure Facepunch will like...
Is that lotion in your pocket? Or a christmas light?
It's actually an aluminum bottle that formerly contained strawberry soda. I figured, "hell, might as well keep this because it's a good bottle, too bad it's pink but whatever."
Also I apologize for how goofy the costume looks in that picture, here's a marginally better one. It's still goofy as hell but at least I was trying harder here.

Also, I think if you made those tufts of fur on the shoulders white, they'd look badass. That's just me though :)

Thanks. I got the mini-crossbow from a Renaissance fair. It was primarily designed for shooting peanuts, although sharpened pencils seem to work just as well...
Anyways, the "tufts of fur" was supposed to be the ripped bits of his hoodie, (Which is going to be blue) as the sleeves are from his shirt (Which will be colored black) under it. But, I think your idea can still work...

Oh! Now I see it, it's definitely easy to see, it was the lack of color that threw me off for a sec. I think the ripped shirt's cooler in my opinion.

ryugi try this, it fits your half nude elf style.
Oh crap I just realized I posted that last thing in the wrong thread. Whatever.
Anyways BWAHAHAHAHAH.
I really need to work on improving my Digital Paintings and such, so I decided to paint a picture of Link to get back into it.
Also one thing I realized: it's really fecking hard for me to break out of making lineart for a proper painting. I'm just so used to it...I wanted this to looke a little more realistic by avoiding drawing lineart but arrrrgh I just wanted to so bad that I caved and did it. At least I tried.
Background is a random "Twilight Princess" Screenshot.

I like drawing tired-looking eyes. It makes the character feel more like they've lived through some shit, you know?
Is that link?
EDIT:
nvm I'm blind

You think adventuring is all glory and Rupees, do you? How "glorious" do you think it is to watch your friend have his head blown clean off by an Octorok mid-sentence? That's how lots of us go. No last words, no final wishes, just brutally and indifferently erased from existence like we weren't even anything. And that's if you're lucky. Saw one guy who just kept talking about his family back home, like he thought he was just out on a camping trip or something. Then a Leever burst out from right under his feet. By the time we managed to kill it, everything below his waist was a mangled heap. Couldn't have taken long for him to finally die, but it felt like an eternity, and the entire time he was begging us to put him out of his misery. Every day I wish one of us had the guys to do it.
Some practice painting Trying to make it a bit more realistic, but can't seem to get away from giving it a lineart look...
Oh and hey look it's not an elf for once.

Preview shot of a digital Painting I've been working on for the past couple of days. I've decided to try embracing the lineart look. Besides, several of my favorite artists from DA do the same anyway, even in their realistic work.
EDIT: You know what I suddenly realized, her eyes look as if they're way too far apart, yet at the same time it looks okay. Dunno why. Should I try changing the eyes around or just leave it?

With regard to your modelling work, I want to make kind of a broader crit here, that I hope is useful to you.
I've had you on my deviantWatch since before you got banned from FP, and like, with some minor exceptions, it seems like you've been modelling and re-modelling your "Selene" character for, what? A year? Three years? That's an issue, because even if it was the best character model ever, nobody's going to hire a character modeller who takes 3 years to finish an assignment.
Now, like, a lot of creative people have that One Thing, the one story and set of characters that's more important to them than anything else, and that's fine. But if you get to a point where you're hung up on it and not producing much substantive work then it's a problem. SO I have two suggestions.
The first one is to model a new character, with the same level of care and detail as your Selene model. It doesn't have to be in the same story continuity as her--in fact, it's better if it's not. Give yourself absolute creative freedom to take this character anywhere you want, without having to worry about a pre-established storyline or whatever. Try to do it in a month or so. You'll probably learn a lot more than you will spending a month tweaking the skin texture on the small of Selene's back or whatever.
The other suggestion is to find a release for this elf stuff, because it seems like you really want to tell this story but you're not and so it's permeating most of the stuff you do. You want to make a video game? Maybe figure out how to make a video game (although don't expect to be able to make a AAA title, because those take years and hundreds of people. start small). Or do what I'm doing and tell the story of your favorite characters with a comic. A comic forces you to draw a lot and challenges your storytelling ability. Or maybe some other thing, like a web-based text adventure with pictures. I dunno. In any case it feels a lot better than just endlessly modelling and remodelling the characters in a holding pattern while you wait for a big games company to come along and turn your story into a real game or whatever it is you're hoping for. Get those ideas out there! Maybe it'll turn out good, maybe not so good, but either way you'll have learned from it.
[editline]21st July 2012[/editline]
Also, I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with all the people complaining the elf has "mannish hips" and posting super-idealized female figures with giant hips. Most women don't have hips that big. A lot of women have pretty narrow hips, in fact. Demanding that every female character conform to an idealized form is not good character design. The hips she has now are actually pretty reasonable.
I think you're wanting a job in 3D modelling, not "Game Development"
First things first, it's hard to critique this because I can't see the wireframe and topology.
Secondly, it's going to extremely hard to animate stuff in the t-pose it's in, it's shoulders look weird and doesn't look like she actually has a shoulder.
Most people model with this t-pose

Notice how his arms are bent 3/4 the way? Because 90% of the time then character is gonna have an idle animation and her arms aren't going to be up in the air, having a t-pose like yours really stretches the texture when you want to have her arms rested or down by her side.
Other then I can't critique it on the textures or topology because theres no picture of the texture or wireframe.
That's the A-Pose.

Was actually thinking about doing this. Selene is taking way too long for me to do because I'm too invested in her, I do need to try doing other stuff.
I also do have some ideas for games unrelated to Selene, some of which I'd like to get help from the community on in future when I've written it all up.
I received a rather scathing critique of a WIP drawing recently of an artist who's plenty better then me despite her not having art as her main focus in her studies. I mean, I went to art school and this girl is doing way better then me, what does that say about me?
You don't know how bodies work. It's painfully obvious and I don't care if this is harsh. You need to know that you need to draw real people. You don't understand weight and how it affects the body. You don't understand how the body parts interact with each other. This is basic fucking drawing, Ryan, and I'm surprised you weren't called out for it more in school. There's no way you would have passed the art classes I had to take with that bullshit anatomy, and I only minored in it at a school that wasn't specialized for art.
... get your shit together and learn.
Here's the picture in question:

So yeah, I admit, what she said was right. I really need help. Someone who can work one-on-one with me and help me to get my shit together.
So far this is probably the best looking thing in my gallery and it still isn't professional looking enough.
I think what I really need is a good tutor, someone who can work with me one-on-one to help me improve. Because right now I really need it.
What you really need is to sit down and read books about anatomy. Study that shit. Andrew Loomis is one of many authors with great books to learn anatomy from.
And just draw, draw, draw, draw, draw, draw. Not focus on specific characters with specific character designs and backstories. Just draw shittons of people from photos or real life.
Take this guy as an example. http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=211544, look at all the drawings made on a single paper of people and body parts, not always perfectly well drawn drawings with lots of personality, but study drawings, drawings that's specifically done to learn.

Uh, I don't think you need a 1 on 1 tutor. Just a lot of anatomy study.
Sorry for the big bump, but I'm still trying to work on stuff.
Anyways, I want to redesign Selene's outfit. Again. I've compiled a ref sheet I want to work with. But at the same time I'd really like to get other people's input on her look. I'll begin posting the WIP shots of her look and I really want you guys to sound off on what works and what needs to be changed, provided the process is taken seriously.
Also, do you guys think I should post up the picture i was working one before anyway? I know it's really flawed but I'd like to post it anyway to get some feedback on what I need to improve upon.

Hey, check this out
[editline]31st August 2012[/editline]
And don't skip lessons, ever
I've been running a contest over on DA for peopel to come up with their own designs for Selene. I'm hoping to draw some inspiration from this.
Also my friend convinced me to join "Void" which is this comics site where people basically pit their original characters against each other and they win depending on votes by users. I'm thinking of entering using either Selene or Anna.

i dont have anything against people doing what they want but both of these things soung like a waste of time that you could use to improve. voting on characters or doing contests isn't doing anything for u and actually sounds like it's bad. it's just drawing you in to keep spending time on something that won't ever go anywhere.
