1chains1, Thank you so much for your pictures, I studied them with a microscope and learned a lot of new stuff about face anatomy and shading and got a lot of motivation! Now seeing my recent pics I draw a lot better than I did just a week ago. And it feels great.
Drew a little doodle for this thread, don't call hijacking, I'm not asking for comments, just wanted to say thanks to OP
This thread inspired me to pick up a pencil and really draw for the first time ever.

You should put it back down
You should put it back down
Wrong. You can't draw like a pro for your first time. I know some people in my college that drew times worse than the pic you quoted, but they wasted about 5 96-page drawbooks on their not-so-good works and now some of them draw even better than chains, I will take some timelapse pics when summer ends. Advice and encourage
K2cougar, That's someting that I would draw a month ago. Just don't stop and continue doing what you are doing. You don't need to show your works to everybody if you don't feel to do so, just draw, draw and draw.
op , i have a scanner stuffed in a box , if it worked (its old and beyond fixable) i would send it to you
Hardly. Go look at the dudes on conceptart.org
I am simply average. :gbsmith: (which somewhat brings me joy seeing as I can improve)
You're upper avarage. Seeing as you are two years ahead of me, I can only stab myself in the thigh and regret why didnt' I practise enough.
I feel the same way, threads like this make me wish I could reverse time and start at an earlier age.
I like the first image in the OP.. wish I could draw.

Me too. I try on and off over the years but think I am just too impatient for it.
Not much to say here, had to kill some time before the show started. I think the legs are too small, but I didn't have any references to go off of.

I finally got my piece of shit tablet back so I decided to give it a go and came out with this odd portrait. I will obviously finish it, I just wanted to show a peek at my work process.
also a random old drawing i found.

It's a good thing I had my phone on me, this is the only picture I had of my art. The computer lagged itself out, and had to be reset.

Thumbed for largeness.
Self-teaching is a really effective method of learning to draw.
By the way, your proportions are perfect.
How are you at drawing female figures?
I ask because I'm better at female figures but hopeless with drawing male figures because I'm a girl and your male figures are anatomically and proportionally perfect and you're a bloke.
Curiosity (:
I can draw the female figure to a pretty good degree. The problem behind it all is that because of our genders we tend to stick to what were familiar and comfortable with (i.e. your gender). As you mature as an artist you become more comfortable with both genders, because it becomes a necessity. To advance you must learn every inch of the human body in all forms, so you will become desensitized to naked males. It is the same effect as seeing a lot of shock pictures on the internet, eventually they don't even get a reaction out of you.

So I completely fucked this one up, the camera didn't take it with the right values and when I tried to adjust them in photoshop it just shit this out at me.
Yes the board is pressing into his face, in the reference he was squishing it against his cheek so it was difficult to portray on paper that small.

OP... That's amazing work. Check Craigslist/Kijiji/eBay for a scanner. Do it now.
Man, Your anatomy skills have got me jealous.

It's not finding one that is the issue, its money. I am dirt broke.
Well actaully that is a lie. I have one penny.
I'd buy you one if I could :frown:
I am just getting this on the front page again because I have finally acquired a scanner, and a dump will be posted once i get everything together.
Yesss! I can't wait!
Ok, so the dump of pictures I promised is actually quite small because I still have to dick around with the scanner settings. Half of the scans came out horrible looking, but here are some scans that came out OK, though Im still unhappy with them. If the scanner continues to mess up the values and contrast, I will just have to edit them in photoshop, which will make the images take much longer to post.
The below were sketches during periods of free time at school without any references (a habit I need to break)
And yes the pen was done freehand without any previous sketching.

Hopefully I can figure out the issue, because half of these sketches rely on the subtle value I put in, which the scanner decided to rape.
That's odd? I guess all the controls are done via computer, which isnt very uncommon.
I need new pencils, the ones I have keep giving away and breaking.
Is it treu you stuck your dick in just about everything?

I'm rubbish at male figures compared to female. I think it's far easier to draw some curves, you don't need to put a lot of detail in to make girls look good. Drawing a guy requires putting muscle under skin and shading appropriately and arghargharghsomucheffortI'lljustdrawsometits:byodood:
It all really depends on your style. I have an extremely messy style so I create rugged line weights that favor male form over female.
Been stressed from finals, really affected my work so this dump wont be too pretty, not to mention I havent had time to fool around with the scanner. The sketches are done in my usual hand held book at school with no references:

Some of those designs would look GREAT on a t-shirt.
Eh, they would have to be simplified to a great extent or the person using them would have to pay out of their ass for ink.
