Katy Perry: owning the night like the fourth of July

Lady Ga-ga is great as a visual artist, but her music is pretty shit imo.
One thing that completely throws me off about her is her name. "Lady Gaga." What the frick. I always thought of gaga as a noise babies made, and now it's the name of a chick singing about riding on some dude's disco stick. Lovely.
her name comes from queen's song radio gaga sort of

as for katey perry, i think her last two singles teenage dream and fireworks are really missing the flare that made her earlier stuff unique
teenage dream and firework could've been made by anybody
Nahh, I think there's something about her lyrics that's very real- a distinct sense of singing what she would speak, more than anything. "You think I'm pretty without any makeup on- you think I'm funny when I tell the punchline wrong," I mean, as simple as that seems, that's something a girl would really appreciate and say, and that's meaningful to a girl. Also there have been plenty of songs about sex with a lover, sure, but none with the same innocence, optimism and honesty. "No regrets; just love," she's not focusing on the shallow part, the purely physical, but instead the emotional connection.
she's way better than rihanna
Rhianna is a good singer, better than Katy Perry certainly.
Though looks, Katy wins
I just wish Rihanna didn't use the autotune so much.
they both use autotune derp

okay okay maybe you're not into bjork
but st. vincent also kicks perry's ass
[editline]10th January 2011[/editline]
in fact fuck everything
janelle monae kicks everyone's ass
Most of todays musicians are pretty weak. It basically comes down to who do you hate hearing the least on the radio?
In the case of Katy Perry Im pretty sure it came down to "Wow, this broad has an awesome rack! oh and she's pretty good at singing, too. Lets get her a record contract, teach her some beginner guitar skills and punch out a few prefab albums with lots of music videos"
Most of todays musicians are pretty weak. It basically comes down to who do you hate hearing the least on the radio?
just in the female singer/songwriter section:
joanna newsom
annie clark
janelle monae
if you can't find good musicians that's your own damn fault
I don't care if the musicians themselves are good or not, the music is generally just drivel. it's getting to the point now where my head hurts when I hear an auto-tuned voice. Maybe it's just the popular "hit" music that sucks ass.
Im sure if I watched it get made I'd be none too impressed either, nothing redeemable about it for me.
[editline]11th January 2011[/editline]
It's all opinion anyways, but I'll just be glad when (good) rock makes another comeback into the mainstream.
ahem do you even know who the fuck i just listed????!?
not a single one of those artists use auto-tune and if you're waiting for "good" rock to come back, well then you're probably just hopelessly stuck in the past
OR you just don't know who radiohead is
in either case, enjoy your 17th reissue of KISS outtakes
[editline]10th January 2011[/editline]
heh
well then you're probably just hopelessly stuck in the past
I don't see 1999-2004 as being that far in the past. There was quite a good run there.
Actually I haven't heard of the ones you posted, which is generally a good sign. Listening now.
what
you think 1999-2004 had good music but you don't think 2005-2011 has good music
that's confusing
[editline]10th January 2011[/editline]
oh and if you hear joanna newsom for the first time you're probably gonna get freaked out
she's not a little kid just for reference
Yeah, they're not bad. Judging by the views of the youtube videos I don't think they'd be in the mainstream, considering any given katy perry video is likely to have 50+ million views. My point still stands, though. Mainstream/"Hit" pop music if fucking awful.
The stuff you posted is pretty good IMO. It's the sort of music that's awkward listening for me, though.

White Stripes alone redeem that entire timeframe for me. There's The Hives, The Stokes, and The Vines on top of that. They aren't mainstream by the fan standards of todays mainstream musicians, but it was big enough at the time. Unlike a lot of the hit music at the time you can go back and listen to it and it still sounds just as good as it did.
well actually joanna newsom hit the billboards pretty high-up so i don't know
but yeah katy perry is ok at best
man fuck mainstream dadrock for life
hypnotoad: Actually they didn't teach her how to play guitar. She was playing since she was a kid.
Haha, I don't think so. If anything, Lady Gage copied off of Katy Perry with Pokerface.
If you're going to go that route then they both copied Madonna.
Eh, could be. I don't like Madonna though, so I guess I'm a little biased.
Haha, I don't think so. If anything, Lady Gage copied off of Katy Perry with Pokerface. What's so exciting? Oh, look, ooh, she's dressed in meat or bubbles or outfits that take two hours to get into. Even if she isn't edgy, Katy Perry's lyrics have more of a sophistication, as odd as that sounds.
I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock, your peacock, cock

Word on the street, you got something to show me
Magical, colorful, Mr. Mystery
I'm intrigued for a peek, heard it's fascinating
Come on, baby, let me see what you're hiding underneath
Words up your sleeve, such a tease, wanna see the show
In 3D, a movie, heard it's beautiful
Be the judge and my girls gonna take a vote
Come on, baby, let me see what you're hiding underneath
I want the jaw dropping eye popping, head turning, body shocking
Oh, ay, oh, oh, oh, ay, oh
I want my heart throbbing, ground shaking, show stopping amazing
Oh, ay, oh, oh, oh, ay, oh
Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock?
Don't be a chicken, boy, stop acting like a beeotch
I'ma peace out if you don't give me the payoff
Come on, baby, let me see what you're hiding underneath
Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock?
What you're waiting for, it's time for you to show it off
Don't be a shy kinda guy, I'll bet it's beautiful
Come on, baby, let me see what you're hiding underneath

Oh my God, no exaggeration
Boy, all this time was worth the waiting
I just shed a tear
I am so unprepared
You've got the finest architecture
End of the rainbow looking treasure
Such a sight to see
And it's all for me

Wow, now this is good Katy Perry.
I Kissed A Girl was the most annoying song that's not rap-related I've ever heard, and now I'm hearing this miracles of music.
It's like the Phantom Edit of music.
