I'm looking for any African metal bands, or anything similar. Does anyone know anything about those and whether or not they even exist?

I've been listening to alot of blues, but now I'm really into this old, really depressing, mississippi blues you know like this: Please, recommend me some more of this stuff!
I'm looking for some sludge metal, preferrably a bit depressing, like Acid Bath.
I don't know what you mean. But try Living Colour.
Thanks for the tip, and though it's nothing bad, I was more or less searching for something else. More like a fusion between hard-rock/metal with some traditional African instruments/vocals, or at least (more or less heavily) influenced by traditional African music.
Get me some cool bands please.

Get Peace of Mind, More than a feeling and Feelin satisfied, All by Boston, and all are great.

And Talk Talk, Slint, and Tortoise.
Alpha, Boards of canada
Just kidding, Alpha kinda sucks. Good background music though.
and they said this thread would flop. Fuckers!
So, I have tastes that are, shall we say, eclectic. So, I'll split them into different genres and groups of genres, with the hope that people can recommend other stuff based on those groups as opposed to the whole (although if you see something spanning multiple groups, feel free to recommend it) As a side note: when it comes to rock, I'm an album man, but when it comes to pop I'm more open to singles. I still lurve albums, though. Folky shit -Steeleye Span (Awesome band; Electric Folk, think Richard Thompson's 1000 years of popular music. But with Electric Guitars, Electric Bass, Electric Fiddle, etc, as well as one of the best female vocalists of all time, Maddy Prior, and an excellent accompanying male singer, Tim Hart (RIP!)) "Classic" pop rock -The Kinks (Probably my favorite album would be Arthur: Or the decline and fall of the british empire) -The Who (Yeah, yeah, who doesn't, I know. I like stuff like Quadrophenia best though; stuff with complex rhythms and an emphasis on composition rather than virtuosity. As a side note, I'll probably get flamed for classifying The Who and The Kinks as pop rock.) -The Zombies -Bowie -Elton John "Classic" pop -Mainly corny stuff, but I like it because I'm a connoisseur of production. So, things like Hermans Hermits, the Cyrkle, Mamas and the Papas, Just about every top-40 single from the 60s, etc. Modern pop (I include a mish-mash of bands that aren't really pop, but brush up against it) -ABBA -I'm From Barcelona (indie pop, technically, but I'll lump it in because it's got that same, produced sound.) -Voxtrot (again, indie, but it's very much so in the same vein as ABBA etc.) -Talking heads (I know, new wave, but I lump new wave in with pop, as the type of pop I like is generally toward the more new-wavey side to begin with.) Rock -ELO -Fountains of Wayne -XTC Country (/flame shield on) -Just about any old (pre-90s or so) pop country does it for me; I love the production, the emphasis on the sound. -Also, love me some country classics, Cash, Lynn et al Unclassifiable/Atypical (shit that won't fit in the other categories) -Love Zappa, mainly for composition as opposed to "lol 15 minute epic guitar solo". I know it's unlikely anyone can recommend someone who comes close to Zappa, but just throwing it out there. -I really liked Alopecia by Why?; haven't even listened to any of their other stuff. It's pretty neat, vaguely hip-hop indie rock. -Flying White dots, especially their first full album, staring at the sky. Basically, name anything poppy (referring more to the "Pop" of the sound than to "Popular"), with a clean sound, and I'd be more than happy to give it a listen. Name something poppy and clean with excellent, complex composition and I'll have your babies. edit: Thanks reaver; it's a bit slower than my "ideal", but it's very nice; has a clean sound. I'll be listening to this.
ryan adam's heartbreaker is a cool country album [editline]07:22PM[/editline] you should also check out this thread http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=906355 the national might be up your alley
I need some bands like Tool and some music that sounds like Machine Head.
I need some bands like Tool and some music that sounds like Machine Head.
Like Tool? Porcupine Tree and Isis. Like Machine Head? Pantera, DevilDriver, Lamb Of God.
hurr
If you like Zappa check out Captain Beefheart. Zappa produced his album Trout Mask Replica. Love and Donovan are similar to the Zombies. Brian Eno's earlier glam rock stuff is similar to Bowie and Talking Heads. He did produce and help with a couple of those bands albums. His later stuff is good, but it isn't like his older stuff at all. For stuff that's "poppy with a clean sound" and maybe other stuff that you may or may not like maybe check out Big Star, Elvis Costello, Fleetwood Mac, Television (excellent guitar here), Yes, and T. Rex.
"Classic" pop rock -The Who (Yeah, yeah, who doesn't, I know. I like stuff like Quadrophenia best though; stuff with complex .
HOW DARE YOU CALL THE WHO POP That's fuckin blasphemy
MotherMinge, you would really like Jim O'Rourke. Listen to The Visitor, Bad Timing, or Insignificance.
HURR DURR. I have... unique classifications of bands. sorry that I offended your sensibilities by classifying a band you like differently from the consensus.
The Who are rock. The Beatles are pop.
