Well have you heard any songs or artists that you have actually liked from those genres already? That could help. Or maybe something similar to those genres?
Hmm. I've never heard black metal I like, though I do like death metal. As for -core type stuff, Between the Buried and Me is the only thing I've heard that sounded at all good to me. I think I heard a rap song I liked once, it was quite funky and had tubas and shit, but I don't remember the name or anything. For electronic stuff, I like Vangelis, not much else. Never heard good hair metal, and Johnny Cash and Ennio Moricone type stuff is the only Country I've ever liked. And pop music is another thing I've never really enjoyed at all
Thanks for ignoring the country songs I showed you. :smith:
whats some metal where the songs are composed and written like a story, sorta like, it has an introduction, a middle bit, a climax and an ending.
ie. opeth, early candlemass, mastodon
Sonata arctica Pretty much tells a story with all their songs. Check out White Pearl, Black Oceans.

Pavement

(this is pop right, guys?)
I'd say Guided by voices is low-fi, Built to Spill is indie - similar to modest mouse and pavement is alternative rock.

but that's just me.

Once you use standard recording equipment you are no longer Lo-Fi, I'd say it's pop once they got to the Hold on Hope record (I don't really like it though) .
I loved the Lo-Fi cassette stuff though, the reason why I still record with cassettes (apart from I don't have the money) .

You know it's you who has to make that choice. Without "wanting" to like them, you will never like them.
I need something mellow/ambient I can revise to. Something similar to Burial or Four Tet would be nice.

Try more death albums. Solitary Man, Hundred Highways, Aint No Grave.
But if you really want to get an idea of his artistry, try his debut album and his prison live albums.

This has some great covers of other songs on it, and I'd also advise checking out his older stuff
I've not really tried Cash's period between his prison live stuff and his American series.
Must get to it.
I've come to the consensus that Cash can do no wrong in my eyes, so I look forward to every one of his albums I buy

Also Kno's Death Is Silent album.

Will look into that
Also wondering, is there any rap/hip-hop that has more instrumental stuff going on than a bassline and a beat on the drums?
Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy has Charlie Hunter (I believe) playing on some tracks. It's a great album, got me started on hiphop

Why not try "Instrumental Hip Hop".
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
Can't stress how good that album is.
