For trippy music: Chad Vangaalen, and watch the music videos too, they're seriously trippy. Another special genre (Math-rock), the kings of that: Foals. British band that doesn't care about your opinion: Arctic Monkeys.
Could someone suggest some instrument focused funk which is good for someone who have never listened to that genre?
