I'm getting bored of heavy metal music. Thinking I'm better then everyone else because I listen to music that isn't mainstream is getting old and I only just realised what a douche I am for it. I'd like something new to get into, should be easy to get in to, genre, and a few iconic albums of that genre. Anything you guys like, I'll give a try
I used to be in a pretty similar position, I went from like Disturbed and Metallica (I was 13) to way heavier/obscure stuff and then just faded out into listening to pretty much anything. I'd recommend Radiohead, they're a pretty important band which is still fairly mainstream. I'd suggest listening to their albums in order, to see the "evolution" of the band. One of my favourite things about Radiohead is how impressive and brilliant their music is, and yet a huge amount of people know them so you can actually talk about them with others.
Soul Music is fairly simple to get into/comprehend. Few albums: Marvin Gaye - What's Going On Stevie Wonder - Innervisions Curtis Mayfield - Superfly Al Green - Call Me
Hey man I'll be sure to check 'em out.
Don't forget Aloe Blacc as a starter artist for soulsy type stuff.
He's more in terms of Neo-Soul. People like Cee-Lo Green and D'Angelo kind of carry that vibe. Who doesn't like that stuff :v:
I went past the CD store after looking for the albums, and tried to twist their arm to sell me Innervisions (which is the only one I could find). Unfortunately I couldn't convince them to lower the price so I told 'em to hold on to it for me while I earn some more money. When I get it I'll let you know how it is. I have a really good feeling about it, too.

Innervisions was $20. But dad goes shopping soon and the more I help him out with stuff at the farm the more inclined he is to give me money to blow for myself, so I have Innervisions stuck in my mind.
Holy fuck... Not even the original I bought on LP was that much. :psyduck: Try discogs or ebay.
Well it's from a CD shop that stores all CD's you could ask for at a higher standard price due to the rarity. A normal CD store wouldn't stock such albums. I'll have the album soon, don't you worry
:smith: That sucks... I would've thought good music stores have some sense of being reasonable. Besides, I think they're pulling your leg on Innervisions being rare.
I can't find it anywhere else, so to me it's pretty convincing it's rare.
I need some experimental electronic music. Gimme it. :3: [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline]
I can't find it anywhere else, so to me it's pretty convincing it's rare.
Weird. Stevie Wonder's one of the benchmarks in my collection. Songs in the Key of Life sold like 20 million copies at the time..

If there all in terms of Boards of Canada. It's not quite as "mental" as What I'm after. Laurie Anderson is like "Avant-Garde Synth Pop"
http://www.last.fm/user/B-Hazard I need some new music, use my last.fm to help. Suggestions?
If there all in terms of Boards of Canada. It's not quite as "mental" as What I'm after. Laurie Anderson is like "Avant-Garde Synth Pop"
Knife will probably be right up your alley.
Knife will probably be right up your alley.
I'll get their Silent Shout album right away.
I'm just getting into classical music. Some pieces I'm starting to love already are Holst's Planet's Suite, Beethoven's fifth, Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, and Dvorak's ninth. Any suggestions for other works please? [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline] I also like more modern stuff like Steve Reich's Music for 18 musicians.

I seem to get the feeling you like strings(Cello, violin, viola etc.) for some reason... I might be wrong though. You could try Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, another of my favourites would be Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in E Flat Major, search for it on Youtube, you'll have to type in the first and second movements seperately though, because the third movement is usually the most popular, possibly because it's a grade 8 ABRSM Trumpet/Cornet piece.
Dunno whether this request will sound stupid, but here goes; Dark psytrance-ish dubstep. Second request; Good conscious rap, something like Immortal Technique but with better delivery (I think his pacing is somewhat weird, can't really describe it better)
Anyone know any nice funk/disco/70's-80's songs to dance to? Something like Earth Wind and Fire, Rick James, James Brown, etc.
Anyone know any nice funk/disco/70's-80's songs to dance to? Something like Earth Wind and Fire, Rick James, James Brown, etc.
Sly and the Family Stone
Sly and the Family Stone
Browsed through 10 or so songs on Youtube. Found one I liked, but I prefer the Wayhemi cover. Sly Still pretty good though Waheymi
Inferno;29953267']Hmm... Yes, not all that many composers spring to mind that are closely like the Planet Suite... I see what you mean with Mussorgksy, haven't listened to his for a while though. In technicalities though, without going too gentle, Vivaldi's concertos are rather good, try some of these, http://www.last.fm/music/Antonio%2520Vivaldi/VIVALDI%253A%2520Favourite%2520Concertos?ac=vivaldi%20concert (Sorry, a bit time restricted looking for youtube videos at the moment)although, he doesn't include much brass, which I find rather disappointing as I am a brass player myself. Handel seems to be a bit nicer to brass players, although he does still use strings quite a bit. Some of his most famous music other than his "Messiah" is the Water Music which is one of my favourites, although, I'm a bit unsure whether it's what you want. It does have quite a bit of depth to it, but not quite as powerful as Holst's. I rather like the Overture to the Royal Fireworks . Hopefully this will be what you're looking for... Oh, and this might be of interest, you can preview more of them here faster although only for 30 seconds http://www.last.fm/music/Georg%2520Friedrich%2520H%25C3%25A4ndel/Handel%253A%2520Water%2520Music%2520and%2520others?ac=water%20music%20handel
I'll definitely have to check those out when it's not 1am, and I need to get up at 7am. I've listened to The Planets quite a few times the last few weeks, I should go through his First and Second Suite for Concert Band sometime.

Searching for an album that would be great for Fallout. It should have ambient tracks but also alot of fast and actiony tracks. Preferably metal, rock or jazz, but everything is fine.
Shining's earlier albums, Grindstone and In The Kingdom of Kitsch You Will Be a Monster Some Igorrr songs might work, it has classical music and older music, mixed with death metal and breakcore. Might be too weird for you, I dunno. :v: Boards of Canada and Black Moth Super Rainbow, the lo-fi chillness could work with Fallout, I think. I find that Sunn O))) works amazingly well with Oblivion, so you might want to try the same with Fallout. Actually, I think Earth would be great. You should try that. :3: Gigantic Brain, maaaybe? Has a sci-fi ish sound, there's both metal (of the grindcore kind) and ambient music.
Thanks for all the recommendations. I'll try Sunn O))), Earth and maybe Shining. Also, if you have any more ideas, please no core stuff, I don't really like them. The vocal style mostly.
Suggest me some Ambidjent you mindless ghouls, I couldn't find it myself.
