What about the sex dolls too?
Or the months of masturbation in his harness and lack of hygiene during this process.
Shit sells. Look at Marvel movies. The appeal behind them is typically some kind of big character reveal or reference to some comic so ultra-fans can go "*GASP* I KNOW THAT GUY!"
Oh nice dude I watch red letter media too!

Calling out references for just being there for references has been a thing forever though.
I can say that I enjoyed reading Ready Player One, but by the same token wouldn't call it a particularly good book? Iunno, it's like... Junk food media. I liked it, no doubt about it, but I wouldn't call it a significant literary success by any margin.
I feel the same way about the film. If it reviews decently, and people seem to like it, I'd probably go see it. But if not, then eh, no problem. But I don't think in either case that they'd approach being considered 'flawless' or even particularly 'good' works. They're just kinda' time-killers and brain-pleasers overall, and even then only really fit the latter category if you're as susceptible as I am.

I like this phrase I'm stealing it
thats not even the books final form
This almost reads like a ridiculous copypasta that you'd find on 4chan initially before it'd spread around the internet.
Man the writing of the book felt as though its from a primary school composition

Im reading this in Bobby Hills voice,
It's like that episode of king of the hill where Bobby goes mad studying pop culture trivia to win a contest:

(OC, took some minor liberties with the episode, semi-ytp)
Honestly, the way it rattles off pop culture references non-stop until it becomes a sickening monstrosity reminds me of The Big Bang Theory.
I really think the book would be a lot better if it didn't reference stuff all the damn time. Doing that runs the risk of having stuff fly over the reader's head, which it harder for them to get immersed.
-book excerpts-
From the sound of it, I could probably watch Summer Wars and Wreck-It Ralph and play a few 80s games for a couple of hours and have a better time.
So do you think he ran out of pop culture references to name off in long lists?
the first movie will become so popular that he can just reference shit from it in the second one and it'll be a magnum opus
You hear about videogames?
