Because why risk everything in the afterlife, you may as well have a shot and if heaven is real than you lose nothing and gain everything.
You're an idiot. If there is any sort of god who will grant you a nice afterlife, how do you know if this god wants us to believe stuff that has no evidence? It might as well value atheism because there is no evidence in favour of theism. Look up "Pascals Wager".
Because why risk everything in the afterlife, you may as well have a shot and if heaven is real than you lose nothing and gain everything. Sure some fuckhead over the top Religous people are out there but there are also others who dont give a fuck if you are religous or not.
I don't feel I'm risking anything by not believing in god. I'm a good person and I'm going to live a great life because when I die, that's it.

Besides, when you die, and if you come to realization that god doesn't exist... Well, let's just say you'll be having a very bad day.
Wow, this thread makes me sad. I had no idea so many people we're so far behind in progressing. I hate humanity and it's belief in zombie space wizards.
I'm christian. I do believe in a greater being but i wouldnt care if there wasnt one. Even if there isnt a god then at least i lived my life as an optimistic human being not a nitpicking downer who spends his life trying to prove in something that makes other people have a hope in the afterlife. So yeah become christian if you want. What's the worst that could happen.
Why be optimistic when the human race has set an indefinite unfortunate future? humanity does not progress, we evolved to destroy, and our future is nothing but a blatant destruction that we set ourselves. Don't try to help it, there's nothing we can do other than expect the mistakes our government leaders will make. We are all young, We were born at a bad time. Our future is gonna be a dramatic one. Don't expect the best, for we will all grow up in sadness.
I'm hating all of these Atheist stating that Christianity is a by the book practice. Christianity is never the same for anyone. It's all based on your point of view. For example, a rather "traditional" Christian will believe that getting a tattoo is work of the devil, while a "laid back" Christian won't have any problems with it. If you find something as wrong, it's wrong, and if you find something as right, it's right (In most cases).
It is based off of the book numbskull. People can take it to be their own, but in the end they follow the teachings of that book. There is no exception.
Why do you have to go either atheist or theist? You haven't acknowledged staying agnostic as a choice. Do what you believe in. Don't join any religion just because "at least you might get into heaven if it's real, unlike atheists". Religion is here because people thought it was true, not because of the potential benefits. I hate when people think of religion that way. Don't listen to what anyone else says if they try to convince you one way or the other. What you need to do is take some time to yourself and think "is God real". Don't let anyone else answer that question for you. If you can't answer it yourself, then be agnostic.

Agnosticism only seems logical because it is in between two extreme points. "Well, if the two could just be evened out, then we would have the perfect religion!" Although this may seem like it right choice, and it very well may be, it is not necessarily true simply based on its nature.
I'm a christen. Don't tell facepunch because they think they are cool and tough. I have been shot, shot someone, and fought many tough people yet these fat fucks sit at their computers eating chips and screaming for the mum to bring them their wand. (Oops, sorry, I was thinking of twilight fans). To sum things up, what facepunch don't know, won't hurt em.
Gnostic is sorta like Christianity.
If you're thinking about joining a religion then it's obviously not for you
The OP makes me sad. Just look at how brainwashed he is.
I am enjoying OP's lack of making things plural when they should be.
Also just to say I have been attending bible class for the past year on how to be saved and become a christian. The evidence of god is quite compelling and soon I am thinking about being baptized. Also when you think about it what is there to lose when you become a christian.
Your dignity, for one.
You are 100% correct. [editline]11:55PM[/editline] Nobody realized that this could have been a huge troll thread, and look what happened.
Doesn't affect the argument. Not one bit.
Theres nothing wrong with religion, just don't take it too seriously.
Well, i suggest that you don't listen to either side. Both are extremely biased, have circumstantial proof/unreliable if you really go indepth about it. It's all a matter of where your faith lies. Do your own research about history and the actual things in the religon and then make your decision. Give islam a whirl while your at it

Become catholic, do whatever the fuck you want for your whole life, die, go to purgatory, say you're sorry, go to heaven. Win win. But in all seriousness, just be atheist, religion puts unnecessary stress on your life.
I ditched religion after one of the teachers at some Christian camp stole one of my Black Sabbath albums. I say don't become religious, read Carl Sagan and worship the universe for it's beauty and awesomeness.
Theres nothing wrong with religion, just don't take it too seriously.
Oh there is plenty wrong with religion. The holy wars, for example.
The very concept of life after death and eternal dalmatian (isn't that the dog spelling?) amuses me. It's complete bull. [editline]07:14PM[/editline]
Oh there is plenty wrong with religion. The holy wars, for example.
And the fact that it's based on a lie.
"If there were no God, there would be no Atheists." -GK Chesterton I am christian, and i say go for it.
That person obviously doesn't understand atheism.
That made no sense. What's your point?
9 year old, ol' chap.
You can't fool God. If you go to Hell for not believing in Christianity, YOU ARE GOING TO GO TO HELL EVEN IF YOU SAY YOU BELIEVE IN CHRISTIANITY WHEN YOU TRULY DON'T. My advice: Don't believe in anything because someone told you to. Just believe in what you believe, whatever it may be.
This.
