I can see why atheists believe what they do, I just choose not to believe the same thing. Is it so wrong for me to want my beliefs to be respected as well?

If you're a Christian to be moral then you're doing it wrong. Atheists are perfectly capable of forming their own moral code, but if you want some sort of actual guideline to follow and a church to attend, there are atheistic religions.
