personally I'd call it for a fake
when I get back to my main PC I might grab the full res video and snag the relevant frames
the more I look at the gif, the more an almost uncanny valley feeling is apparent, the motionblur maybe - but it is not nearly enough for me to tell for sure
if I had to guesstimate, I'd say the door was knocked off of its hinges, but I'm doubtful of what is shown in the real time clip
He's a fucking moron for not attempting to at least understand the basics of theatrical or practical explosions and the distance necessary to do them safely, and he's not only putting himself at risk, but he's nearly killed a cameraman twice now.
He basically constructed and then detonated a car-bomb right next to him.
ON PURPOSE
That doesn't strike me as "awesome" or "bad-ass", but it does strike me as fucking stupid.
In 1080 it looks real, and the surprise in the voice of the guy behind the camera sounds real
But who knows
If anything it would of been altered to make him look like he was standing closer to that truck than he actually was.
There's no way you should ever be standing that close to something like that packed with explosives, a small penny sized peice of shrapnal could have enough momentum to kill you or do harm.

He's done stupid shit like this before. In another video his cameraman got hit by a piece of shrapnel from a fridge explosion. It was a pretty deep wound too.
People are SO concerned about this guy's safety it's hilarious. Regardless of it being either "oh he's going to kill himself, that would suck" or "I hate him, he's going to die".
That guy and his crew are making money out of their disregard of protection and - yeah, - lots of luck. That's what they do, it's basically their job. They're stuntmen. If something happens, should their luck run out, it will be solely a problem of their insurance company, which doesn't require anyone's concern either.

Well you know what, at least he's giving it away for free, see the "51,337" faq question at the bottom.
For those of you who think this is me being greedy, its the complete opposite, this game will be free to download for all of you. I've put about $25,000 of my own money into the game already, spending hours recording voice overs, working with artists to sketch out custom characters, enemies, and levels. The rest of the money will go to keeping the game free and paying studio costs - programmers, artists, audio engineers.
And I'm no expert but I was under the assumption that the real names of those weapons are copyrighted material and you'd have to pay to have them in your game as a developer, or something similar. Otherwise it just baffles me as to why he would change the names.

I was actually just looking at his kickstarter when I noticed this:

I presume he's extremely well connected.

His ass is a war factory, every day crates of military-grade weapons and tanks come out when he goes to the bathroom
Holy shit how are his ears still intact after that explosion?
They probably aren't, he has in the past claimed he can "close" his ears to noise so doesn't need hearing protection.
(FYI: This is known as being deaf to certain ranges)

There's no cameraman involved in that video, there hasn't been for a while. In one of the videos after that incident he said his cameraman refuses to stand near explosions so he uses a tripod.
I don't see why he doesn't take safety seriously. He should use blastscreen and what-not.

"Hello I'm MedicineWine and I take a joke video seriously."
[editline]asdll[/editline]
You can rate me dumb and disagree all you want. The entire video where he said that was completely humorous.
Not being cynical or anything but i think that there is more to most of FPS Russia's videos than meet the eye.
Iv'e used After effects for a long time and seen a lot of explosion reels and explosion stock footage in my time using it, in lots of his videos the explosions are enhanced, you can literally see the flashes of a composited explosion a frame or two before along with dust fading away unrealistically sometimes and other things.
Also after watching the Drone video It's really not THAT unbelievable that it's CGI, in fact it looks like a whole load of effort went into fooling the audience so why wouldn't he step up his game and do something like this.
These guys on youtube earn MILLIONS, it wouldn't surprise me if he spent money collaborating with professional FX guys for a video every now and again to keep the videos interesting and controversial.
Due to the slow-motion shot showing the car door going in that direction, I really doubt it's CGI.
It's just too complex.
yeah stepping through the footage at 1080p just confirms my suspicions of it likely being a fake
scrubbing through the slow motion and real footage shows how different the explosions were, likely because of the real time footage having so much dust and that door added in post (and/or because they are two separate explosions all together)
and that is disregarding entirely how silly the shrapnel, dust, door and impact plumes added in post production look
personally I find it pretty sad but very believable that he's exploiting the surge of interest he gained when his cameraman was wounded previously
of course if you really wanted, you could look up the model of the ute, find its specs, determine the framerate of both pieces of footage and have a fair crack at comparing velocities
but that is beyond the level of effort I'd to devote to this.

um i don't think they are. i have no proof of this anymore than you but i'm pretty sure they're just guys on youtube and they don't have any kind of insurance or anything, at least not insurance that covers 5kg car doors cutting them in half
It's fake!
awww so close, that would've made my day.

I would've liked to know how these videos are done (ie what kind of production license is used, if any, or how it's all financed by sponsors and shit), but as far as I can tell, we're not getting it any time soon.
But personally I have no reason not to believe they have some kind of insurance backing them up. Even if they don't - doesn't change the fact that they're still basically stuntmen. And having no protection is one of their selling points, because there're enough of Mythbusters and other's who are overly concerned of their viewers' safety, should they try and replicate stuff (I say let idiots be idiots, "safety-first" advertisement won't change that, and neccessary warnings would save you from being sued).

You should've gone for the joke where you tell me that I medicwine too much. :v:
On one hand, it's totally possible for it to be legit since he's pretty much a jackass and he's done something like this before (nothing against that, personally, that's why people watch him). On the other hand, it's such a close call that the footage might have been edited to look more dramatic. Unless we get evidence that it was or wasn't edited for certain, I remain completely perplexed.
The only gripe I have against FPSRussia is that most of the time we don't get a frame of reference when it comes to the actual damage the guns cause against their targets, because he fills the latter with explosives. It gets boring watching him shoot an explosive zombie with a pistol, I'd rather have him shoot a plate of metal, and see how well the gun can pierce it. Or that other time when he was shooting a dummy with dragonbreath ammo, you could really see how devastating it could be. Take an AA gun like in that other episode, but shoot a single shell against a car and show us the damage it does! Stuff like that!
Shows like Future Weapons usually does that well (though I've only seen a couple of episodes so I might be wrong).

Everything in the slowmo shot happens pretty much within 3 frames of the realtime. Notice how the door only impacts the ground at the very end of the slowmo shot, while in the realtime it's pretty much within the first few frames that the door is rebounding after that impact. So it's impossible to tell just how different they looked if you can't actually see the segment they showed in the slowmo within the realtime.

yeah, of course I'm not comparing the doors in particular between the two
things like the grill of the car being launched off in the realtime footage yet not even budging in the slow motion and pausing the realtime footage in the very early instants of the detonation and attempting to scrub the slow motion for that same frame
it just doesn't add up
and it doesn't help that the most believable thing out of all of this is that he did it for more publicity
its not cgi
but that doesnt mean its real
