But they're all very different styles of shooter.

I think Overwatch deserved it.
It's rapidly become one of the most successful fps games in history and has a massive following.
Even if you don't like overwatch or think it's the best game this year, it was "game of the year" because it's kinda a go to game for a lot of people now. A lot of games claim to be the game that you keep going back to, but overwatch IS.
Doom was a better choice for GOTY than Overwatch

Well, they've learned nothing, stop shilling out because the moment you do the entire thing becomes entirely worthless.
I would have given it to Titanfall 2, but I won't argue Overwatch doesn't deserve it.
Personally I would have preferred Doom far over Overwatch, but at least it's not Uncharted 4...
the only worthwhile thing to come out of this year's game awards is the death stranding trailer.
