You mean Overwatch isn't your thing but has been the best game I've played this year, and has also been to many others?
It has so little that makes it stand out in any way. Its literally nothing special other than having Blizzard's name and following.
Doom did a lot more with what it had, Uncharter 4, as much as I don't like the games, did more.
Doom was a better choice for GOTY than Overwatch
Eh. Doom's singleplayer is good, but you'd have to ignore the boring lackluster multiplayer to call it GOTY.
I don't think "half of its great" is really GOTY material.
I think Overwatch deserved it.
It's rapidly become one of the most successful fps games in history and has a massive following.
B-b-but I personally don't enjoy it, despite it being one of the biggest commercial and critical successes of the year.
Well, they've learned nothing, stop shilling out because the moment you do the entire thing becomes entirely worthless.
What are you referring to? Overwatch won it far and square.
Doom was a better choice for GOTY than Overwatch
You have to look at the whole package, and tbh Doom's MP was not all that great.
WAIT WAIT WAIT that wasn't at the start of the outbreak?!
THEY KNOW ZOMBIES EXIST AND THEY STILL WERE LIKE "GRAMPAS ALIVE GUYS!"
What the fuck Telltale?!
I think it was an awkward cut between start of apoc -> 3-5 years later or whatever.
B-b-but I personally don't enjoy it, despite it being one of the biggest commercial and critical successes of the year.
There's plenty of people that don't enjoy it.
the only worthwhile thing to come out of this year's game awards is the death stranding trailer.
Hydrobot*
What are you referring to? Overwatch won it far and square.
I agree, I just meant the show as a whole.

multiplayer isn't half of DOOM. the vast majority of dev time clearly went into the campaign. the tiny vestigial flap that is MP is not "half" of the game
There's plenty of people that don't enjoy it.
And there's plenty more people that do enjoy it...
win list please
You mean Overwatch isn't your thing but has been the best game I've played this year, and has also been to many others?
Doom, innovative game that is the one of only 2 really good single player FPS game released in the last few years
Titanfall 2: Innovative game that went from a shitty first game to becoming possibly the best shooter this year and that's not even counting the single player mode
Inside: A lot like limbo, very interesting puzzle game with a good story
Uncharted 4: Good last game to wrap up the series with alright plot but great gunplay
now compare this to overwatch: a game that just applies MOBA mechanics to an FPS which Paladins already did. Balance is shit as evidenced by the entire bastion spamming in the first few weeks and the constant nerfs + buffs of characters based on the esports scene while not paying attention to people who arent pros
did oversnatch really get goty
So the entire thing was so filled with advertisements, cringey cameos, all sorts of weird ass odd moments. They had no time to explain the nominations or the winners, or even the bloody categories. All of that just adds up to me to the whole thing being this meaningless masturbatory corporate cash fest.
whos hosting these awards lol

This show is another reason to why I only pay attention to Golden Joystick as far as these types of things go

Whatever percent you want to call it, it's still a good chunk of the game and the product deserves to be judged based on it.

Golden Joysticks aren't any better since they're just a popularity competition. I think the Arbitrary Awards are the best annual celebration of games and awards.
I predict the next couple of pages will be dedicated to shitting on Overwatch.

To be expected.
I only care about the Giant Bomb GOTY awards anyways. Those podcasts every year are the BEST.

wasnt on the list
wasnt on the list
seems like a lackluster list but I'd probably say DOOM or tfall2, tfall 2 only because of how much I've heard

"best studio: blizzard"
pfffhahahhahah
Whatever percent you want to call it, it's still a good chunk of the game and the product deserves to be judged based on it.
Plus it's the MP portion that got a season pass attached to it.

Don't think you know the meaning of innovative mate, also Uncharted really didn't have good gunplay, it's selling point was the plot but it was just a very good wrap up of the series.
I have my own criticisms of DOOM, but whatever. It is subjective.
Inside is a lot like Limbo you're right...
Now your criticisms of OW are the problem: it doesn't really apply proper MOBA mechanics to anything, Paladins was in development just after OW so it never took anything from Paladins. The balance isn't shit, just as all multiplayer games are it's just privy to constant balance changes, adding characters (for free I might add) also changes up balance and requires tons of patches too.
It's a game that's universally celebrated, and I'm reaching the point where I think the naysayers who actively dislike it rather than just acknowledging it isn't their thing are simply just being contrarian for the sake it.
did you not just complain about a popularity contest
I did, it's just Overwatch is popular but it's also a really great game.
now compare this to overwatch: a game that just applies MOBA mechanics to an FPS which Paladins already did.
yeah my favorite moba features in overwatch are gaining exp, destroying towers, fighting in lanes, fighting creeps, collecting gold to buy items to improve my hero
oh wait
