First, what are ropes for, and how do I use them?
Second, how do I load vehicles onto the Mi26?

Ropes are for fast roping from helis at under the altitude equivalent to the rope's length.
As for the Mi-26, you just open the rear ramp and drive a vehicle on in. Once you're in it'll give you the option to lock the vehicle into place.

Do I still have to be in the vehicle or something? Because it's not giving me that option when roaming the cabin.

this means that cas has to be earned through doing the side missions or completing AO's, and if you crash or get shot down, then the plane is gone FOREVER
this also means that the base won't be completely exploded five minutes in

oh yeah russia's base is now completely stocked up with AI, has a few unarmed troops around doing misc shit too
