Haven't heard the new one though (which is only a DVD I think).
It's a 2xDVD, 3xCD set. The CD version is 2 hours 45 minutes :psyduck:
I got Blackwater Park first, got it free with an Amazon voucher I got from buying another LP. I didn't really get it straight away. But after listening to Still Life then going back to Blackwater Park I enjoyed it a lot more.

Though oddly enough, the first Opeth album I liked was Deliverance, which is arguably the heaviest album they've done. :v:

I just love Mikael Åkerfeldt as a singer. He has the best growl I have ever heard, and he sings clean parts awesomely too.
Way to be a contradiction, unless you mean you listen to Damnation exclusively. Stopped listening completely, then immediately say you will never stop listening to a metal band. I think you have a poor choice of words there. :v: In on-topic news, I need to listen to their first four albums. My experience with Opeth has kinda gone backwards, starting with Watershed. I just recently got Blackwater Park. I suppose Still Life is the next album to look into, isn't it? :v:
Well going from listening exclusively to metal to only occasionally listening to Opeth is kinda like that. Also I said kinda.
The Live albums any good?
Get the Royal Albert Hall DVD. You might see me :3:
Here's their full Sonisphere show, in case anyone missed it: The Grand Conjuration: Face of Melinda: The Lotus Eater: Master's Apprentices: Hex Omega:
Mikael's banter at the start of Master's Apprentices :v: He is a funny man.
Best banter of Sonisphere I think.
likely. I wonder how many people went away actually believing they were from Switzerland.
Switzerland, Sweden, Japan, same shit
My 60-year-old physics teacher may be going to see Opeth in Newcastle with my friends and I
Just love these guys, some of my favourite opeth songs are the more subtle, often shorter ones like Weakness, patterns in the ivy and benighted.
Ever since I first listened to them, they've easily been one of my top bands. I absolutely fucking love them, and I get to see them in October with Katatonia.
Oh fuck you, Katatonia is ranked up there with Opeth for me. Lucky :smith:
As soon as you read that, I started singing to myself. We're going in, My voice is thin. When I tell you To remember. No one will find you - A promise from the heart; If we part, My pulse will find you through. Be still for a moment, Everything depends upon you If you die, I will die, too. Once we were heroes, But everything has changed since then Now they recognize you, too. Damn you, Eluveitie. I haven't listened to that song in forever. Now I have to go listen to, alongside "July." :arghfist:
'Sup guys Heritage is OUT :D I got my copy (with coin and DVD) in the post today, although I'm not listening to it until friday because some friends and I have a listening party planned :v: Also one of my friends got the signed copy off the website
It took me a few years from the first time I heard them to appreciate their stuff properly, but I'm really digging their stuff now
Phenomenal band. I've been listening to them a lot recently, especially Blackwater Park.
Seeing these guys live made them into one of my favourite bands. For me, Ghost Reveries is definitely their best album.
Heritage is great
^ I agree. When I first heard The Devil's Orcard, I wasn't too sure, but now that I've heard the album, it's awesome!
baybuh
It's funny because people actually thought that was Opeth.
^ Heh yep
WHAT THE FUCK!??? I seriously can't believe my favorite band of all time sold out like this. This is* just fucking embarrassing. And what the hell happened to Mike's voice on this one?
Got my copy and the coin today, it is awesome.
Tickets for the Australian shows just went on sale, would they sell out quickly? and how likely is it that they'll add more dates?
I just had a look at the setlist Opeth are doing for their north american tour, and there's hardly any of the death metal stuff there. I know Mikael said they were dropping the death metal element in the band's music, but I didn't think that meant they were going to stop playing dm all together :(
