oh no she's getting complimented and wished a good day (admittedly because she's hot)
she looks pretty pissed off throughout the entire video, maybe some of those people were just trying to be nice and cheer her up a little bit, being from new york i can say that walking through NYC i've encountered some of the most polite and friendly people you can think of who genuinely just want to spread some positivity
sure there's a couple creepy dudes that follow her and don't get the message, but over the course of 10 hours that's not that bad considering it's NYC, you see a lot of weird people sometimes

"if you want to help, please donate to hollaback! a non-profit dedicated to ending street harrassment"
where exactly would my donation go? would they hire ninjas to jump in and bitch slap people that say hello to attractive women?
The one time I got to walk the streets in central NY was so exciting because it was such a rad place and everyone was so cool. I had so many 30 second chats with random people and it was a fun place
basically that video is total fucking balogna because NYC is not the stereotypical "EVERYONE IS TOO BUSY TO EVEN LOOK AT EACHOTHER" place that film males it out to be, its filled with some fantastic people who've got no problems with chatting or just saying hey at any given point

10 hours of walking through NYC condensed into 2 minutes of bad things
"men are fucking pigs"
you walked NYC for 10 hours literally fishing for bad experiences just to make a video out of it, now that's just a little unfair
Do you really think they give two shits about her day?
I dunno where you people are from but over here it's pretty much expected when you're walking down the street that a stranger will wish you a good day and greet you if you happen to run into them. Male or female It has nothing to do with "giving a shit" it's just a nice gesture that is over in less than 10 seconds.
As a woman I am stating now that I have dealt with this from men or creepy old men. Yesterday while last minute costume shopping at value village- an old dude turned to me while I was passing the underwear section and said "been looking for a cute girl to try on them thongs for me, see how they look" I was creeped out, ran back to my friends. But in short I dealt because hes obviously old, drunk or not all there in the head- I was safe, it was daylight, completely forgot about it 15 minutes later. Youre in nyc, there is probably atleast one creepy dude on each block vesus 4% horn dogs and the other 95% are kind and positive, because she looked pissed, and penis or not I would have tried to make her smile too.
The original video "I just saw a thousand dollars"
VERBAL HARASSMENT! RAPE! RAAAAAAAPE!
No, fuck off. The guy was tacky and it's definitely rude but you shouldn't call it "harassment"

Just showed my mom the original video, she says that the girl should "go fuck herself" and flicked off the screen. Love ya, mom.
mum mum you've gotta come to my room and watch this dumb feminist internet video on youtube!!

No shuddup she was averaging like one ambiguous reply every 10 minutes while walking through one of the world's largest, most densely populated urban centers.
Clearly this is a sign something is wrong with the first world and we need to donate money to this cause so they can... Teach men not to talk to women or something?
Why do I get the feeling that the point is "Ugh, look at how poor/black/ugly people try to talk to me."
Probably gonna get shit for saying it, but I bet she wouldn't have a problem if a guy she found particularly attractive tried to talk to her.
So there was an actual one made.

they're 'compliments' but the same thing would happen to women. Women get the same treatment.
Didn't watch the original, but still.

I was actually sitting next to her, but k
you shouldn't browse fp with your mom, she's gonna think you're a closet pedophile
hasn't it been shown that one of the co-producers for the "10 hours of walking in nyc as a woman" turned out to support gentrification a couple years back, and even stated that white males who also made derogatory terms were cut from the final version???
also the other co-producer backpedaled their way out of supporting the video.
http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2014/10/29/catcalling_video_hollaback_s_look_at_street_harassment_in_nyc_edited_out.html
the original video has all sorts of racial bias written all over it.
[editline]2nd November 2014[/editline]
also what's up with "pay us money so we can stop catcalling"
what can money do to stop catcalling????
You can't end bad behavior or naive and careless with money. I should start a kickstarter thingy with people quarelling. I would collect so much data from real life events. Ez son , where is my money now nigga?
I've had men compliment me walking around somewhere like Liverpool or Manchester central under the assumption that I am a biological woman (I am not) and I've also had people mock/insult me under that very same assumption. This has happened all my life, and most people experience this if I am not mistaken. Liverpool and Manchester are not the nicest places, but I'd assume that whatever number of attempted interactions other human beings have with me would be multiplied tenfold in a place as crowded and diverse as New York.
Admittedly I'd like to see hostile interaction minimized, but I'm not sure what the original video is trying to convey other than 'I'm a pretty woman and people try and start conversations with me and occasionally insult me-as happens to other people regardless of appearance and gender.' How does donating money affect that at all?
It feels like an attempt at a quick money grab, and there doesn't seem to be any evidence to the contrary being presented by them.

Too late, I already have a closet fetish
If it was just an extremely average guy walking down the street, he would get no calls.
And you know why? Because to men, average women are hot. To women, average men are below average. As you see extremely good men get catcalls still. Average ones don't because women got enough attention from average men as is and instead want an above average one.
This is highly interesting, but has a few flaws.
While on the original video, the woman portrayed was well above average looking. Catcalling, etc... happens to almost every woman across the spectrum.
This guy, on the other hand, happens to be ripped and very good looking, while wearing an extra tight t-shirt that exposes his figure.
If he was dressed casually, I doubt he would get many, if any of these "complements".
If it was just an extremely average guy walking down the street, he would get no calls.
All of these videos have a bias, and I'm still waiting for the one that doesn't.
What the hell is "casually" Its a V neck and jeans. The girl from the original was wearing a tight fitting shirt and jeans. She has very voluptuous body, with wide hips and big breasts. Both the original woman and this guy are both hot and they know it.
You don't really understand feminism do you?
I have a great grasp of feminism, and I'm not really sure what the 10 hours walking in nyc video wants anyone to do about anything
no one actually did anything close to harassment nor did they really do anything horribly offensive so i'm not really sure what any other feminist would want to do to stop these things
A lot of people seem to be unable to perceive the tone in which the men in that original video are speaking in. I've already said it once in another thread, but almost all the men in that original video sound like they only want to get into that girl's pants, not to strike up a conversation with her. Not only is it disrespectful, it just makes them look like a bunch of perverted pigs.
basically this
like it's so clear what the intention is throughout the video, you'd have to be socially inept to not understand the mindset of all the passes. it's honestly just a bunch of jerks and considering the fact that she's a owman who's probably had to deal with this forever probably lead to her being fed up. it's like the chinese water torture thing: a few drops of water are nothing, but after like an hour or two hours it's probably fucking rage inducing
[editline]4th November 2014[/editline]
also this video is funny and i like how it made light of the situation
