Although I agree, I must disagree.
My clones are clearly based on the template, in all admittance, and they would never had been as good without them. To be totally honest with you I give more shit about actually playing the game with a decent looking army, rather than spending years making my own units without a template that could look even worse.
Now my question is to you: would you rather see my clone in my shiity design way (like my Pacifiers) or how they are now? I know you're probably going to say "you should not use a template" but why the hell does it matter? Sure, I'm probably not going to use templates again as I've had my fun, but I've put the same amount of work into those clones, re-posing and changing various bits of the template as needed, perhaps more than someone who doesn't use a template at all and ends up with worse looking armies although taking them longer.
Although I put time and effort into PW, I don't expect anyone to rant about me simply using a template. I accept your opinion though, and I realise using the template probably wasn't the best idea - but to be fully honest I'm proud of my clone army, even if it is based on a template. I would come up with a nice metaphor/simile, but you'd probably all moan it doesn't work so I won't bother.

You didn't really read the OP did you? I didn't say get rid of them, Shadow did. I said keep them out of the army thread, and that we should either not post them or keep them in a separate thread, that way people that don't want to see templates don't have to.

Also about other's armies that take longer and look worse, It at least helps them develop their own skill and style, instead of all the "style" we get nowadays, which is templates or template lookalikes.

I would agree to the template army thread if it was done as ProWaffle suggested, the most impressive and community-judged templated sheets should still be allowed if obvious work has been committed.

I still say it's hard to implement your own style with a normal men with guns army. I've seen about three-four different styles here on FP and they are all pretty similar.
Well then, if everyone agrees with me then I will write up another template army thread.
I agree and would try to fully support and keep alive it's development.
I would stop using templates if I could. I can't sprite for crap but picture wars is really fun...
Ill still use it for RPs, but to date i havent made an actual army with that template, besides my new guys, who ill probably ditch soon enough.
I agree with this, I haven't made a single template army or used a template in an RP.
They really take away the artistic feel when you see everyone using a reskin of a soldier than someone else made.
I think using a template to make your army takes the fun out of making it.

Templates are supposed to be training wheels. People wg
ho rely on them will not learn any
further. Now, in an rp templates should be allowed to make them more coherent, but in general, only used when starting out. One you're comfortable making sprites, keep practising your own units. Reliance on templates does not make you better, practising yourself does.
I only use Templates because my imagination is gone, But idea's for people aren't. And i made a Vehicle (Not from a template), One from scratch. Maybe later on i will make my own, But for now i am using templates.

This was basically the reason why I dropped the Vatican army.
My Jawas and Elements are not templated, and I'm not going to use one ever again. I'm going to start working on a standard men with guns army sooner or later, and that's going to be without a template. :)
I never made a "men with guns" army, instead I made a "Aliens with guns" army. :v:

I used a template when I first started off, but when I got the hang of PW, I started getting inspired by everyone else's armies. That's when I decided to start making my own. It took a while but you eventually develop a style and after that, making armies is easy
When I started PW I've never used a template. I've always wanted to make my own. My first army of course, was bad and it encouraged me to use a template. At one point I did and I found out it was a lot harder using a template then working your own style from scratch.

Templates are for me right now because I have only ever done one human army.
Do what I did (And still do) make aliens 'n shit.

Never used a template out of FP island, which forces you to.
Also please none of this voting for the ones with hard work to go in the army forum,, it'll piss people off who don't get voted - and everyone will start to assume and say [i]'fuck this i'll do what i like.'[/i]. It's still a template army, and should stay in the thread.
