Does anybody else get really depressed when they watch D9?
No. Well, maybe when you see Wikus making the scrap flower for his wife. But that's more of an awww moment.
No. Well, maybe when you see Wikus making the scrap flower for his wife. But that's more of an awww moment.
No I mean throughout the movie. I love the movie but I get so sad when Wikus has no hope, the whole world wants a piece of him, his wife doesn't love him, etc. It just made me depressed.

I love both in perspective but overall I liked District 9 way better, it had a better character progression and story. I still love avatar though.
I could've liked district 9, if it wasn't for the disguntingly nervous and dumb human that I had to watch for the whole movie.
A bumbling office-worker is far more interesting than "hurr marines get some" (oh but he's in a wheel chair - how edgy).
i think the whole narration thing on d9 was fucked up it took away from the movie and made it boring and it was sad too cause the guy he got turned into a prawn
I love them both. Mildly off topic but I noticed James Cameron was using a bit of slow mo. I really didn't expect him to be the type to use Slow mo.
I watched District 9 a second time the other day. I really did not enjoy it the second time through. [editline]03:56PM[/editline] I haven't seen Avatar yet, but I really want to. :(

It made it seem less like fiction and sets the mood of the story. Gives some nice back ground on the prawns ant their history on Earth.

While "Avatar" was far from being a crappy movie, it didn't have brilliant acting or story either. Some the the characters were downright cheesy (ex: Colonel Quaritch), and some of the story was a little cheesy as well ((ex: the part when the guy jumps on the huge dragon-like creature (which nobody else can ride) to ride it, even though he barely just learned how to ride the smaller dragon-like creature)). But it was still a very entertaining movie because of the amazing special effects and epic-ness of it all. "District 9" is a much better movie than Avatar in almost every way (except special effects). District 9 is much more realistic than Avatar, has much better acting, and has a much deeper story. However, unfortunately District 9 never had nearly as much hype as Avatar. District 9 is less flashy and has a deeper story than Avatar, and that makes it less enticing to the masses and more "nerdy" and harder to follow. Avatar is really just kind of childish compared to District 9.
District 9. Who ever say's Avatar is a fucking retard.
Fookin' Prawns / Avatar Junkies don't realize how awesome District 9 is. Fook.
District 9, the "fookin' pruons" have laser guns.
district 9 by far, i didn't think that avatars cgi made up for it's lame story
District 9 sucked ass. [editline]01:14AM[/editline]
jesus christ get out more and start socialising then you will realise that people can disagree and agree with your opinions grow up
You were disagreeing that I liked it, but I did like it.
I absolutely hated Avatar. It had a predictable story-line, it was medicore and cliche and the only defense I ever hear for the film is "Super awesome CGI man" because apparently CGI makes a movie. 2012 had good CGI but that didn't make it a good movie, that movie sucked terribly. Avatar had cliche characters, cartoonish villians and a crappy plot that ended anti-climatically. District 9 was original at the very least and at times it was very believable and didn't rely on hardcore action, intense gunplay or advanced CGI. Half the time the camera isn't even looking at the CGI, as if it's not even there, your eye is not drawn to it but you can tell it's there and it makes it very believable. The way it was filmed too is something you don't see very often.
and at times it was very believable and didn't rely on hardcore action, intense gunplay or advanced CGI.
Like, that was pretty much the entire second half of the movie.
i think the whole narration thing on d9 was fucked up it took away from the movie and made it boring and it was sad too cause the guy he got turned into a prawn
Conversely, I found the narration for Avatar extremely corny and equally distracting. Also, the fact that you found the main character's fate in District 9 sad means that you were able to sympathise with him, hence showing that either the narration did not take that much away from the movie as you said, if not adding to it instead. Throughout Avatar I was half hoping that the protagonist die some ridiculous death just to make things more interesting.
you cant compare district 9 to avatar because district 9 is the best movie ever and avatar is gay
District 9 is better because I didn't follow the movie beforehand so it completely surprised me when [sp]he started mutating into a prawn himself[/sp]. This made the movie much better.
District 9 Hey avatards watch it again without the 3D and tell me how great of an ordinary movie it is
This is my actual first post in this forum,so I expect people to reply shit back at me... I liked both of the movies but District 9 was a little stupid,so those aliens that are extra powerful and have some great weapons are eating cat food?If that's not enough...they are fucking selling their laser guns or whatever for some cans of cat food. They could easily take the command of the earth or at least create a town with only aliens instead of that dump they where living in.The end of the movie was great though(that alien smelling the little flower, meaning something like "there is hope")

Their civilization is presumably a type of caste system, with a higher caste making the decisions that dictate what the workers do. Without the brains, the brawn is left aimless and they are easily ordered around.

District 9 is better. Avatar was a mediocre movie with cookie-cutter characters and an unoriginal plot and sub par dialogue. The one thing that saved that movie was the spectacular special effects. And let's face it, most of us saw Avatar because Neytiri is fucking hot. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Avatar and I'm not one of those Avatar haters, but district 9 was better.
District 9 was a really bad movie. The plot is shaky, the fact that it's an action documentary-style makes most of the battle scenes seem completely stupid.. Why do so many people think this movie is awesome? Am I missing something, because the acting wasn't the greatest either.
District 9 because it wasn't predictable as fuck, and it was very entertaining. Avatar is the shit children get fucked up on because it's pretty and nothing else.
Am I missing something, because the acting wasn't the greatest either.
FHOOK OFF
Avatar broke the record for ticket sale in 3 weeks, won the title movie of the year etc. etc. Avatar is better...
