Personally, I didn't expect to receive Gold Membership, and I was never actively seeking it out. I guess I enjoy having it, as I get a few bonus privileges, and I wouldn't want to give it up. But I don't really give a crap if someone else is a gold member. I don't think higher of them, or give them any more respect. Moderators and Respected Users I definitely care about more, and I think those people deserve the attention more than a Gold Member, but I don't think the system of Gold Members should be abolished.

Your an 08'er you'll never understand... But on a more serious note, some people think being a gold member will increase your E-Penis. Some think it is the most amazing thing on this forum. I would go as far as to think some believe being Gold member makes you instant-cool. Personally, i don't really care. But i do get a good laugh at the idiots who do stupid shit and completely sell themselves like filthy whores to get Gold member. The funny thing is, they normally never get it. EVER.

I think more people should get RUs. There are a handful at this point but there are still a handful of blue members that are overall pretty awesome. In particular I'd like to see more mappers and mod-makers get RUs since they're the ones keeping Gmod alive. Still, the general criteria is that the harder you try to get an RU, a title or Gold the less likely you will be to get it. And if you get a title I pretty much guarantee it will be something you'll hate. That's just how the mods work.

Quite a lot of people on Facepunch are obsessed about getting an award because most of them are teenagers. Most teenage boys/basement-dwelling manchildren want to be ''cool'' so they do stupid shit to show how manly they are by, for example, getting a gold membership, only to be frowned upon by the denizens of this forum due to the stupid acts they confirmed. (Except they are not manly at all, they're just retarded for doing all that attention whoring.) I like the way they are punished afterwards by having these embarrasing (and hilarious) titles under their names.
