I can't help but feel PA's death is very immanent.
I can't help but feel PA's death is very immanent.
And Garry canceled Rust. I'm not saying I like PA being "released" unfinished, but it seems a bit odd how when Garry announces a new game we laugh at the "Rust is dead" fiasco, but when Uber does it we say they did drop everything to work on this.
since i play zerg in starcraft killing humans is A-OK with me, and i reckon this looks pretty cool but i haven't played/payed attention to planetary annihilation some of the stuff you guys are saying makes me a bit cautious. kinda sucks when people dick around with kickstarter funds, undermines the whole concept despite how well it's been used by other developers (the divinity: original sin dudes & the wasteland 2 dudes for instance)
for everybody that's thinking "it's a different team, so it should be fine right?" planetary annihilation team: [t]http://i.imgur.com/XXUqk6j.png[/t] human resources team: [t]http://i.imgur.com/NuS5lZ3.jpg[/t] notice how members overlap and are in both teams.
I count 4/11 and 4/15. Still mostly different teams, guys overlapping are probably handling engine functions.

Uber's done it for every one of its games since its inception.
Garry also isn't going to kickstarter for his new projects.
Things that are finished with PA: -The decimal name Things that are not finished: -Optimization -Unit transportation -Units like? -UI I haven't had any UI problems? -Endgame they gave us an extra endgame with the metal planet? -Earlygame -Offline gameplay -Online connectivity -Unit AI better than other AI I've seen? Yeah it still has bugs, but I maintain it's better than like SupCom1 -AI Also not seeing what's wrong here, I've had no problems -Planet generation what's wrong here? You can create your own systems, too? -Planet Annihilation there are two ways right now to complete annihilate a planet The literal core selling point is not yet done. In fact, they've built PA so that it looks fine from the outside and just flakes apart into problems once you actually start. And IIRC, Uber has no games in its catalog that people agree is of a standard acceptable for release. SMNC was started before MNC got underway, PA got started before SMNC got fleshed out and PA is now being put aside for Human Resources. Insert joke about Uber's management of human resources here. The pragmatic outlook is to expect PA to never receive another update and to never expect this game to actually be what it claims to be.
I agree with you partly, but I'm sorry some of these points seem null
I agree with you partly, but I'm sorry some of these points seem null
There are at most 4 unit types per factory. There is one Orbital-Orbital unit. ONE. Compared to PA's competition, it is sorely lacking. The ingame UI is fine but buggy. The Main menu is squishy as all fuck and likes to crash. There is no T3, there are no Experimentals, the only endgame is planet-smashes and the annihilaser, which is imbalanced as fuck. Unit pathfinding gets stuck on shit all the time, making lava maps a nightmare. The AI is generally too good at micro. There's no sizing options for generated planets, and unless you want to either hand make a bunch of systems or play the same system over and over, you're stuck with the default planet size. Craters on Metal Planets are still bugged, but otherwise Annihilation is fine.
That dosen't make me feel any better, I'm pretty sure they're gonna pull people off the PA team because it uses similar design mechanics and they consider it complete. The project director for example is from PA
afaik it's just 2 dudes from the PA team working on this
I just purchased and played PA with my friends yesterday, The game is pretty fun and good. Well- I see some problem with Optimization but It's pretty decent game.
Multiplayer only? No thanks.
This just seriously pisses me off about what my donation to PA turned out to be.
And Garry canceled Rust. I'm not saying I like PA being "released" unfinished, but it seems a bit odd how when Garry announces a new game we laugh at the "Rust is dead" fiasco, but when Uber does it we say they did drop everything to work on this.
The difference here is that Rust is nowhere near finished yet and Garry isn't making many promises at all about what's going to be in the final version. The Steam page for it literally says that the plans they have for the game are constantly changing and that you shouldn't expect anything from it. On the other hand, Uber have made a ton of promises about what's going to be in the final version, then decided to just release the game once it's only 80% finished and still missing some absolutely crucial features that every game should have. They were always promising offline mode and saving games for the final version, but once they decided on a release date all mention of those features suddenly just disappeared from the Steam page. A whole month after release there's still no word when/if those features are coming, all we get is a 50% off sale for PA and a new kickstarter announcement as a slap in the face to all the people who trusted them enough to buy early access and expect them to actually finish the game. It's so frustrating because underneath all the issues it has there's a potentially great game, all they had to do was delay the launch for a few more months in order to properly finish it. Now the game is out and it's getting completely justifiably mediocre 6/10 reviews by both critics and users. And instead of working hard to fix the issues in a timely manner, Uber just keep digging themselves into a deeper hole. They keep saying shit like PA is a finished product and that it's getting great reviews from critics when that's clearly a load of bullshit. The game's reputation has been damaged now and as a result not many people are going to want to buy it in the future. Instead of getting the great game we were promised that could easily have a thriving community around it, we can now watch it die slowly over the coming months. GG Uber, you done fucked up. And here I already thought Tribes: Ascend was a terribly mismanaged game, but Uber have somehow managed to make Hirez look like saints in comparison.
