Many of the players (who also play guitar for real) say that it gives you a better rhythm. A more precise tempo. A more consistent beat. That's a musical skill. It doesn't train you on where to put your fingers for each note. It trains finger reaction time, and maybe dexterity, but it doesn't train your muscle memory. It doesn't help with strumming. Here's an analogy. If you played shooters obsessively, would you think you were good at shooting? No. Of course not. You might have a grasp of fundamental tactics (might being a major word there), but probably the accuracy of a three-year-old. A really drunk three-year-old. You probably couldn't find the safety latch, let alone clear a jam or actually hit something. Do soldiers or mercenaries or other people who regularly shoot people bitch about it? Quit bitching about it. Sure, some kid says he can rock on GH, so a guitar should be easy, feel free to kick his ass for me. Not because he's "destroying your music" or anything. Drumming in Rock Band is probably the most fun I've had playing a music game. And you can ACTUALLY transition songs from the rock band drum kit to a real kit (Sort of. Depends on complexity.) Singing in that game sucks though because you can't be creative at all and it makes you sound like a retard even if you are the bejesus of signing. I can beat almost every song on expert on drum though. With atleast 5 stars.

I think Neversoft is getting desperate at this point, they're releasing GH5 and Band Hero. The preview for Band Hero, the split second of gameplay they show, it looks EXACTLY like Rock Band. Neversoft knows they're losing, Rock Band is too far ahead at this point to even TRY to catch up.

Other than a few cosmetic things, you are doing exactly the same thing, hitting falling notes that come at you. All the instruments even play the same (save for the extra note for bass and drums in Guitar Hero). Rockband and Guitar Hero made me good at drums.
