I used to be like, mainly because I used to be into rap and Guitar hero got me into rock and metal. Then after hearing bands like Metallica and Megadeth, I asked my friends for other cd's by them and got into those. Then it eventually lead to me getting a real guitar, so I actually thank Guitar Hero for that. But, yeah I see what you mean.

It's called opinion. If they don't like the sound of Jazz, it's their opinion, doesen't mean their stupid. just means that they don't like the sound of that genre.

I got into a lot of bands because of RB actually.
But if I only know one song from the band, I'm going to be honest about that. Ex: The only Strokes song I know is Reptilia, so I don't go around saying I love the Strokes. I go around saying, "Reptilia is an awesome song." :|
I found my love for Boston through Rockband actually...
Now I own several Boston CDs and know more than two songs. :razz:
But I agree on the point that people who pretend to be fans of the band and only know one song are kind of annoying.

Before RB & GH, I was a true blue, Pink Floyd, Who, Zeppelin, and Doors fan. After RB & GH, I was a true blue Pink Floyd, Who, Zeppelin, and Doors fan.
But I agree with OP, not necessarily because of his rant on music games, but the use of music everywhere. For example, I was a fan of garbage for a while and The Trashmen are among the most popular garbage band out there. When Family Guy did that episode that included Surfin' Bird, everyone was like, 'Hey Thomas, you only have that song because of Family Guy' and then I showed them that I had their entire album and haven't listened to it in about a year via iTunes and that nifty 'last listened to' tab.
It is my personal opinion that [B]GOOD[/B], old music (this list does not include any rap/hip hop, nu metal, 'rock' bullshit) should not be used commercially at all. That should be saved for the new, shitty, generic music that is cranked out every month. I mean, common. Haven't we had enough of some of the greatest bands in the world being exploited? That's one of the reasons why I am a rabid Doors fan. Nobody is allowed to use their music, so there aren't a fuckton of fanboys out there who ruin the music for me.
Anyway, I've had enough of this, 'I love this band so much because I heard this one song here and here and because my friends like them' or 'You only like that band because you heard it here and because you're friends like it' bullshit. It's just too difficult to sort out the real fans from the stupid ones.

I hate it when people limit themselves and don't go out to find new music. If I liked a song on guitar hero, I'd get an album and listen to it.
None of this pisses me off.
What pisses me off is when I'm listening to some random song I found one day and like and someone notices and they then ask me questions like "Name five songs from seperate albums" and "Name all the band members" and then when I can't answer they go on a long rant about how I'm not a 'true fan' and I'm just a 'poser' for listening to their songs.
I then have to move in with the "What the fuck are you talking about" argument and try to explain that just sometimes people can listen to a song without having to be devoted fans and still enjoy it.
