Saw this movie yesterday evening, It was fucking awesome.
10, it was an awsome movie.
Even though I wouldn't like this movie, I can't wait to see what other movies they'll make with this technology.
seen this 2 times in 3d now. Just as good the second time as it was the first
movies out there but the hype isnt really nessecery and the 3d effects aint so good ^^
Wait, what exactly are you comparing this to? [editline]02:00PM[/editline]
this movie is done quite well in every way except for the story, which is more important than the visuals/acting imo. it was obviously taken very directly from a certain style of western, the best known example of which is Dances With Wolves, and even before I noticed that, the story was still horribly predictable. to think the story is original, you would have to have not read very many books, seen very many movies older than 10 years, or just have horrible taste in general.
It's a retelling of a classic story, (as was Dances with Wolves by the way), but set in a completely different world which gives it a completely different feel. Of course it's predictable, it's a well known and loved story. I can't for the life of me work out why a film needs to have an 'original' story to be good, it's not as if they stole the dialogue from another film, many of the best films ever made are adaptations of classic stories. Modernised adaptations of Shakespeare plays don't get decried by people helpfully pointing out "lol it's been done before noobs". James Cameron has said that's the whole point, he wanted to retell a story - presumably one he was fond of - in his own way, so I don't get how this is the major issue. Film is not about creating new stories, it is about telling them in new and imaginative ways. Sure, you can create a new and original story and portray it though film, but that's not what Cameron wanted to do here.

I wouldn't call that new and imaginative.
the thing is it's hardly even a retelling. he changed a few names and places, and made it very shiny. I wouldn't call that new and imaginative.
It's all about the detail of the story, yes, you could make a page plot summary sound the same by changing some names, but I don't go to see a film or read a book and then think "damn, I can just read the plot summary", you could sum up the plot of most films in a few sentences or paragraphs, but that's not the point. It's not just set somewhere called 'Pandora' as opposed to somewhere called 'Whateverland', it's set on an alien moon of a gas giant which is a planetary sized sentient being, these are the details that keep me reading books, or watching films, for example.
So what's the point of sequels. Spoilers? And theories. [sp]Humans might return, learn more ancient history of the Na'vi though flashbacks and present time, Jake somehow has problems when his Na'vi forms starts to deform, and has to use a human body to survive. Making pregnant Neytiri afraid she will lose the one she loves. Maybe a human enemy will try to infiltrate though an Avatar to spy on Jake and Neytiri, and spy as Jake by using his DNA, so at least he can have some nemesis/rival. It could be Neytiri centric, and more based around the history of Pandora. Jake's story was likely over in the first movie. I know people still think there is some matrixized theory that nothing is real, and Jake still is in a wheelchair. And the planet is deserted, yeah, whatever the fuck is going to happen, who cares. I'm sure Norm and the other scientists discover more mysteries of Pandora. As their choice to stay, and let the others in exile. Parker Selfridge will have to play some big part in returning, since he was the corporate admin for RDA mining, guess he will come back to finish the job, or send someone else in his place, and you kinda want to know what Avatar 3 would be like. Wonder how James will pull this off, and give us new plot twists, yeah, I realise, they were on a moon, and not on Pandora throughout the whole film. In the end, I bet the humans who choose to stay, will make a choice to become Avatars to be accepted, and yeah, apparently, that General Miles may make a return, as the film's bad guy again, due to some plot twist involving clone DNA. WTF. Though I'm sure Jake will become the leader in the end game.[/sp] And that's about it.
The whole spy idea wouldn't work. There are some things Avatars have different than the Na'vi. for example the about of fingers on their hands.
Best fucking move ever. And becase Im a furry I have my full right to say Neytiri was hot.
Best fucking move ever. And becase Im a furry I have my full right to say Neytiri was hot.
So because you're a furry you can like her and not be weird? You're a furry to start with...
I know, but being a furry makes it more acceptable. Wouldve been worse if I wasn't one, right?
I know, but being a furry makes it more acceptable. Wouldve been worse if I wasn't one, right?
If you've got it, flaunt it, y'know?
Funny how someone had to make a big thread to change FP's mind... It's pretty sad how mindless some people here can be... People start the avatar hate thing, everyone follows blindly... A somewhat respected user has to admit liking the movie for all the others to admit it too... :Dawkins102:

The twist is, that the Na'vi is a virtual race created in a virtual world that then Jakes decides to commit suicide.

I saw this movie last night, and I wish it was reality. If I could be a NA'Vi, ohhhhhhhhh... :sigh: Fuckin' Eh...
I saw this movie last night, and I wish it was reality. If I could be a NA'Vi, ohhhhhhhhh... :sigh: Fuckin' Eh...
Oh God it's spreading on Facepunch already
Oh God it's spreading on Facepunch already
I think that's a feeling that most people initially have after seeing the movie. Which is probably a good thing, as if everyone had that mindset, it could spark change. But it won't happen.
Today is so depressing... Rainy outside, depressed from lack of reality inside... I don't know what I'm going to do...
Get an exotic pet?
Today is so depressing... Rainy outside, depressed from lack of reality inside... I don't know what I'm going to do...
Just pick a razorblade of any type and go ahead with it. Remember, it's down the road, not across the street. In all seriousness, I hope your joking. I couldn't stand hearing the news about some people thinking about suicide because the real world felt so 'grey' and 'evil' after seeing Avatar.
Saw it again in 3D last night. I was dizzy after leaving the theatre and I nearly fell over :ohdear: (fucking blood pressure combined with disorienting 3D and changing from a dark room to a very bright room suddenly) Still as good as the first time I saw it.
oh god lol.
