Did you not read every single post I made about how visually it was mindblowing?
[editline]09:47PM[/editline]
It was about 2 hours in, there was a huge denouement and the screen faded to black before another hour of bad dialogue and mindblowing CGI.
No I did not.
Sorry.
No I did not.

Cool brah.
Also did anyone else think Sigourney Weaver's Avatar was fucking scary looking?
Cos I did.
Ok, was this movie good or not? People are saying that the plot wasn't very good, what's the verdict?

The one thing I thought when I saw her's: Furry.
Edit: You gotta admit though. Her's appeared more furry like than all the others.
[editline]03:50PM[/editline]
I thought the plot was fine. Not good, but definitely not bad. Nothing like Ninja Assassin. :v:

That Harvard tank top :awesome:
I don't know if this is just me, but everytime I saw one of the female Na'vi prancing around from a behind view, I kept on thinking "dat ass."
I'm going to see this tomorrow, and I've made sure I've got my Weyland Yutani t-shirt ready. Fuck I'm such a nerd. I am seriously hyped about this movie though, can't wait.

If you are abnormal and for some reason cannot see or hear things and can only absorb the plot of a movie when you go to one, it is a terrible movie. But in all honesty, the incredible CGI makes up for it all.
Oh come on, the plot wasn't aweful, it was awesome
The plot of the movie certainly isn't new, but calling it bad is wrong. It entertained me and what more do I want? I don't always want a plot that needs to be over-analyzed (that doesn't mean I don't like that), sometimes sitting there and enjoying the whole thing without big thoughts is alright.
It's definitely not an original plot, but it is not bad.
As Rosthouse said, it doesn't need to over-complicated to be good. The way the plot was in this move was simplistic, but to me, it was played in a way that worked.
Cool brah.

yeah she really didn't look like an alien she looked like a deformed blue human
God damn the person who said he kept trying to glimpse Na'vi nips. I spent the whole damn length of the film trying to actual keep focused on the movie, rather than spotting nipples and seeing if what you said was true.
Good job :C
But other than that, the film was awesome. The mild sex scene was pretty gay.
The plot of this movie is directly taken from the plot of the Tau in Warhammer 40k
[editline]07:22PM[/editline]
The Tau are a blue, hunter-gatherer people and the Imperium find their planet and slate them for extinction, humans have far superior tech, etc. etc. etc.

Except, unlike Avatar, the Humans would've committed Exterminatus (also the Tau have excellent tech as well.)
Thinking about it, an orbital bombardment scene would be amazing.
It makes me sad that this is the direction filmmaking is taking.
Just because it has great CG doesn't make it a great movie.
The story for this movie fucking sucks, and no amount of great CG can save it.

I think the humans in 40k were cut off by a warp storm. And the Tau were primitive at the time and advanced in the ensuing ten thousand years.
I just saw this movie in 3D, and fuck do my eyes hurt. Like I said, 3D is, was, and always will be a fucking stupid gimmick.
[sp]The design was okay. I thought those panther creatures looked almost low res, like they didn't have any details texture wise. The mechs were good, but those giant shoulders bugged me. Both the humans and the Na'vi were total one note ripoffs of Pocahontus, evil corporates and good saintly Indians in peace with nature. I also think the main character could have done with some more fleshing out, he just sort of comes into the movie and says his back story. Especially with the bits where he's all "Humaniity has destroyed teh nature, we must stop them naow". That comes kind of out of left field, as up until that point he's just sort of "Yeah, trees. Nature. Whatever. Okay." It would have hit home more if we actually saw us destroying stuff on Earth, maybe at the time he was in Venezuela. Not to mention it's not really anything when he gives up his human body as he'd only been pissing and moaning about it.[/sp]
The acting was good though, and the action scenes were superb. Overall, it was a good movie with a weak, hackneyed story. Not worth the 400 million it took to make the fucker, but it was fun enough.
Am I the only one who liked the plot?
Or rooted for the Na'vi the whole time?
Also, that one pilot girl is fucking HOT.
Are you fucking blind
I am after watching that shit in 3D. I feel like someone threw salt in my eyes.

Well how can you not root for the Na'vi? The marines were blundering stupid murderers with explosives and the Na'vi were peaceful magic blue elf cats who loved nature and peace and shit.
The colonel might as well have had a black curly mustache and a cape.

Wow, I can tell how the plot enthralled you.

Yeah she was basically the same character as the butch Latina marine in Aliens. THAT was a great movie, you can't deny it.

It was a good popcorn flick. Too noisy though. And the marines were completely one dimensional. James Cameron seems to have a thing out for the marines.
And no, Vasquez was a lot more extroverted.

Yeah but Aliens is a great movie considering Cameron was a young, untested director at the time, and he re-hired the whole production crew from Alien, who all pretty much despised him. The movie was rushed by the studio, and it's pretty remarkable that it turned out good.
I think a better example would be the current situation in Iraq as opposed to pulling a Godwin, since Hitler wasn't exactly killing the Jews because they had veins of super metal under their houses (even if that was the case, Hitler doesn't exactly represent the entirety of Humanity.)
The problem is we have no idea what Unobtainium really did, its function would certainly effect my decision as well.
[editline]03:06PM[/editline]
That's when I put on my Space Marine helmet and post opposite to how I think.
It was gold with a fancy name, no doubt. I mean it's called unobtainium, they might as well have called it "expensiveite" or "veryrarespacematerialwithstupidsoundingnameoclase".

Yeah, so? Alien was better. And when it comes down to it, that's all trivia. The quality is what matters.

Alien and Aliens are two different types of movies. And it's funny you say that because Aliens has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes while Alien has 97%. Even Sigourney Weaver liked Aliens more.
Personally, I think Aliens aged better, but they're both definite sci-fi classics

That's because he is a Hollywood Liberal
[editline]02:41AM[/editline]
I read this hilarious review by an Australian who was convinced that Cameron was a revolutionary who was going to be drawn and quartered for releasing an anti-war movie in America, like such a thing had never been done before

You know now that you mention it, he seems to portray the military negatively in almost all his movies except for maybe Aliens.

So? Aliens was a much stupider movie. It was loud and extroverted and as subtle as a bullet to the foot. Alien was an actual horror movie. It used it's soundtrack and it's imagery to convey a sense of terror. And for that, I give it the upper hand. It had finesse.
Sigourney Weaver was in Alien 4.
And how has it aged better than Alien? Because more people try to emulate it?

Well it takes place after Cameron has reformed the military by making movies about how they suck
