The movie met my expectations and I saw it in 2-D I'm going to see it in 3-D over vacation. I enjoyed the creatures of Pandora, especially the "DaVinci" geckos. And Xenocide is never the answer.

Just went and saw it today. I have to admit that it was pretty damn good, but I still found the message downsy. I mean first off, the whole special spiritual connection has no real world or even symbolic counter part, and without that, they're just a bunch of stubborn, bigoted natives who would rather destroy everyone than reach a compromise. Also, "rights" can only be given to you by others, you aren't born with them.

Going to see it on Imax this week later, gonna buy the tickets far in advance.

I think that it would have been a much more intelligent ending to have na'vi ride out and get themselves slaughtered, roll credits. It's more realistic and the message would merely be to show us the horror of the situation and let us ponder how it could have been avoided. I don't like stories that paint one side as the assholes, especially when the assholes have the logical high ground.

Avatar would've been 100x more badass if it was what everyone originally thought it was going to be; the disabled guy walking around in a suit of power armor, and that's how he interacts with everything (you know that's what you thought it was going to be.)

This would shock the audience and would get the point across much better. Also, it would make me kinda happy but sad. And thus the movie would succeed.

Saw it today. Awesome. Liked how the whole spiritual thing about trees and the spirits are really [sp] explained as the entire planet's trees and it's ecosystem functioning as a gigantic neural network with each tree functioning as a neuron, meaning the fucking planet is sentient. That along with the Navi upload their minds like a gigantic USB port into what is essentially an internet of trees. That blew my mind. [/sp] Makes you wonder, actually.

The mountains float due to the fact that they have high concentrations of "Unobtainium" in them. Since "Unobtainium" is highly magnetic, the mountains basically float on a magnetic cushion.
