you're bringing up something that doesn't matter and then driving it up to be the most important part of the movie, and then when people try to say that it doesn't matter you ignore their arguments and insult them
yeah, the plot isn't stellar. the plot wasn't the point of the movie though.
On a note about visually sound movies, I saw Koyaanisqatsi last night and it bored me to tears for the first 15/20 mins, then improved somewhat.
Was still pretentious as fuck though.
Too much fiction, not enough science.
Blade Runner, that's where the sci-fi balance is at it's finest.
[editline]10:37PM[/editline]
Read some books god damn it.
[editline]10:38PM[/editline]
I didn't care that it wasn't possible, it was just blatantly unoriginal and overlong.
Blade Runner was uncanny, visually. I mean, not every film should be Blade Runner. But it was fucking awe inspiring.
Agreed.
Something like that yeah.
I do read books, pardon me when I say Star Wars is sci-fi. It doesn't mean I've never heard of Ender's Game or Starship Troopers or other genre classics.
OK :buddy:

I'm not even talking about the plot. Yeah, I told him to cut the bullshit about it only being having the theme being stolen, but otherwise I am talking about it visually.
And when am I ignoring people's argument? Seriously, when I said you people remind me of Twitards, I meant it. It's like, every time I dare to criticize the film, you all get your panties in a twist and make up a bunch of shit I never said or did.
Seeing this in IMAX 3D ASAP
I only saw it on normal 3D, I think the last IMAX cinema in Ireland closed down a few years ago because no-one was making any films for it :saddowns:

Starship Troopers was such shit. It was just one big military gunwank with nukes and bravado and one dimensional liberal stereotypes that exist only to get their comeuppance. And that's the book, the movie was stupid and awesome.
Starship Troopers was such shit. It was just one big military gunwank with nukes and bravado and one dimensional liberal stereotypes that exist only to get their comeuppance. And that's the book, the movie was stupid and awesome.
This. Just this.
Who gives a shit about plot when you got a fucking war?

I was about to rage until I saw your comment about the movie.
The movie is cool beans :colbert:

There were no nukes, and it was hardly bravado filled. It was a political statement about crime and punishment, juvenile deliquency, the need for war, and other stuff. Are we talking about the same book?
Gun wanking what the fuck are you talking about

Alright, I can tear into this book like a motherfucker, but we're getting off topic here. Back to the Smurfs.

No, I don't care if you tear into it. I'm just raging that you insinuated the book was some kind of testosterone-filled bravado fest. I don't care how you criticize it, just criticize it for the right reasons :argh:

I love Rico's father in that book. He's the most transparent, stupid, elitist motherfucker. He almost reminds me of Burke 2.
So, folks, your favourite part of the movie? Mine was when [sp]the Na-vi guy jumped onboard the ship and started throwing people around like ragdolls.[/sp]

Yeah, but that's the thing. Starship Toopers was really, really stupid. I mean, it had next to no intelligence. What it was was great action scenes, cool looking aliens, and it didn't try to be anything else.
Avatar was preachy, and it was long, and it was almost all taken from other stuff, and it was self righteous, and it tried to be something really big. It thought it was this great existential pinnacle of film, and it wasn't. So it fell flat. Really flat. But, that's the thing.
If you're making a stupid visual movie, then it should know it's a stupid visual movie. It should be about getting as much cool and stupid spectacle into the movie as possible. It shouldn't be about trying to get some preachy environmentalist message into the audience. And that's why Starship Troopers kicked ass. It was stupid, and it knew it.
General Discussion never fails to turn all well-meaning threads into crap.
Best part for me was [sp]the tree falling over[/sp]
:v:
Fuck i love starship troopers. What a great soundtrack.
This film brought Dolby 3D to my attention. It's supposed to be way better than RealD and even IMAX 3D. Did anyone see it with these glasses?

I just remembered, Ice Age 3 used these glasses. I remember saying how much better movement was with them. I wish there was a way of knowing which cinemas use this 3D.

This. Great visuals, but they didn't balance it well with their slightly above average story.

Uh... this one had a half-ass story.
And it was James Cameron.

Starship Troopers 3 is better. :banjo:
Anyone else impressed that they went through the trouble of actually showing the effects of a missiles shockwave on an organism? I mean as they were [sp]destroying the hometree[/sp] the Na'Vi just kept falling down from the shockwave (Rarely seen a movie that actually factors in that when missiles are involved.)
Starship Troopers 3 is better. :banjo:
Never seen it. Which is odd, because my friend worked on it.
