Nope, it's just unbreathable. All I can think of is: Too much oxygen (yes, it's possible) Some other gas that's present on Earth but is toxic in high quantities to us, and it's abundant on Pandora All I know is the atmosphere appears to be much denser, which is why you get those wavy distortion effects when Pandoran atmosphere meets internal regulated atmosphere.
It is a poisonous brew of ammonia, methane, carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen, and even a small percentage of hydrogen cyanide.
Where'd you get this from?
The Na'vi have red blood, which means they probably breathe oxygen.
Wasn't that just the levels of Iron?
The Na'vi have red blood, which means they probably breathe oxygen.
And the reason they are blue is that virtually all life on Pandora produces a different shade of bio-luminescent blue, meaning they have excellent camouflage at night.
Wasn't that just the levels of Iron?
The iron is what facilitates the transference of oxygen from the lungs to the blood vessels, or so I believe.

That's like trying to hide in bright light by wearing white clothing.
I just saw the movie in 3D. It was fucking amazing.
The humans in Avatar don't represent humanity, they represent one side of humanity. The side that favors "the ends justify the means" approach to problems. This is fair, since humans have done stuff like this all through history. Why does anyone think going to another planet will be different. Someone will make up a reason we, humans, need that planet and if we have the advantage we will wipe out any life there(or try to). That's why people fear aliens and alien invasions, we imagine aliens doing to us what we would do to them if we had the chance. That's also what made District 9 so cool. It was an alien invasion movie where humans had the advantage...and what happened to the aliens? They got farked over, that's what.
Moving lights aren't good camouflage. That's like trying to hide in bright light by wearing white clothing.
The lights on their bodies are used for communicating emotion and some other non-verbals, the camouflage part is why they are blue in general.
I think they could have certainly changed the aliens a bit to make them look less human. If they could make them look like the aliens in District 9 and then make you feel sorry for them then they did a good job. District 9 did a good job on that.
I still don't get that. Why didn't they immediately start mining the site where the Na'vi were after they fucked up their big ass tree?
It turned into a matter of survival, they had to make a preemptive strike against the na'vi in order to deter the inevitable attack on the base.
It turned into a matter of survival, they had to make a preemptive strike against the na'vi in order to deter the inevitable attack on the base.
As well as ash raining down over the entire area and fire everywhere.
As well as ash raining down over the entire area and fire everywhere.
And it would take days for the miners to get there, assuming they already have the place torn up and ready to ship the ore.
The lights on their bodies are used for communicating emotion and some other non-verbals, the camouflage part is why they are blue in general.
What's the point of camouflage at all if they have blinky lights on them? Squids also use that system, but they live in nearly pitch black environments. And even then they're only bright and shiny when they're not hunting, and in special situations.
It turned into a matter of survival, they had to make a preemptive strike against the na'vi in order to deter the inevitable attack on the base.
So the only personnel on Pandora were mercenaries? Wouldn't you hire miners to mine? And they didn't find out about the massing army for hours. Wouldn't they just set up shop immediately like the emotionally cauterized robots that they were? [editline]05:27AM[/editline]
I really don't want to see two prawns in love. Or anything that entails. :barf:
I think the love story was completely unnecessary anyway.
There are a fuckton of other blinky lights all around them.
Indeed, it's like hiding an LED in a tangled mess of christmas tree lights.
There are a fuckton of other blinky lights all around them.
Yeah but most of them are stationary. Moving lights against stationary lights are easy to spot, that's why you can see planes against the night sky. Of course, the problem of camouflage is completely moot in the end anyway because almost every plant in the world will light up when you get near it, making it easy to spot you.
Indeed, it's like hiding an LED in a tangled mess of christmas tree lights.
Not really. But even then, what creature would evolve that sort of trait. Wouldn't the creatures most easily suited to survival be the ones who destroy the LED plants so they don't give away their position? [editline]05:32AM[/editline]
If Jake didn't fall in love there'd be absolutely no reason for him to "change sides".
Yeah, besides actually caring about a misunderstood people and love for a planet. But no, that would be deep. And not completely Dances with Wolves. [editline]05:32AM[/editline] I mean fuck, what about the pilot? She switches sides and she's getting any blue smurf cock.
Not really. But even then, what creature would evolve that sort of trait. Hell, all the good guys switch sides without being in love with anybody. [editline]05:34AM[/editline]
Might be more of a zebra effect, where there's so many damn lights everywhere that you have to rely more on smell and hearing than anything.
Well then why do the Na'vi have such big fucking eyes if they're so useless to detect prey.
So the only personnel on Pandora were mercenaries? Wouldn't you hire miners to mine? And they didn't find out about the massing army for hours.
Who knows, maybe they were in fact mining after it was brought down...we don't see hometree for the rest of the movie.
Who knows, maybe they were in fact mining...we don't see hometree for the rest of the movie.
Wasn't Jake just sort of laying the wreckage for like 3 hours.
Well then why do the Na'vi have such big fucking eyes if they're so useless to detect prey.
Gee, I dunno, maybe it's because even the zebra effect isn't 100% effective at confusing predators. Different critters evolve different traits, just like here on Earth. Why? Beats the shit outta me, but the fact that they have them seems to be working out GREAT for them. Predatory animals tend to have large, forward-facing eyes and great motion detection in order to look PAST camouflage to an extent. Saying that it's hard to remain hidden when you're moving is kind of a "no shit, Sherlock" moment considering the same applies to many animals on Earth. We've got these crazy ass little bastards called "horned lizards" all over the place out here, and they're sandy colored because we have shitloads of SAND. You can't see the little shits unless you're looking REAL carefully for them or they start to move. If your environment is lit-up like a friggen Christmas parade then you stand out more without lights than you would WITH lights. Seriously people, read a god-damn science book or something, shit!
Wasn't Jake just sort of laying the wreckage for like 3 hours.
I don't think it was 3 hours but yeah jake was near it also remember it was a huge area...not just where he was laying. also this:
And it would take days for the miners to get there, assuming they already have the place torn up and ready to ship the ore.
They would of waited until the Navi where dealt with before they started mining hometree. Which is exactly what they tried to do. You don't want to lose your big expensive trucks and shit when the nearest replacement is 6 years out.
